  1. So I scan my local craigslist on occasion for a second DT to buy since I've been in and out of mine after a couple rebuilds and I figure I could whip one back into shape without all the head scratching/banging involved with my first one. This morning I spotted this: http://carbondale.craigslist.org/mcy/3509468340.html 2x 1978 DT 175s for $500. One runs, the other in parts. Here's my dilemma: I have $500 in my pocket right now, BUT I need to use it to pay down my university bill, otherwise I can't register, get my graduate degree, get a job, and make money. I could always just put the tuition on a credit card and use the cash for "just one more bike". An…

  3. hey guys, first of all hope your all having a good christmas, but more to the point my Yamaha TZR 50 03 plate will not start at all, it had the same problemb a couple days ago it cut out and wouldnt start so i checked the voltage and everything was as it should be, then i bumped it and it worked, the next day i was riding back from work and it stalled on me as i was taking a turn, so i tried to bump it again and noting, checked the tank it was empty, so i filled up and left it over night in my shed, then morning came and absolutly nothing, i know the starter motor is gone so no electric start but it still should bump but no luck. recently fitted: New Spark Plug New…

I'm a new rider so this is a whole new level for me. I've watched a few filtering tips and guides on youtube (by sensible riders) and have been attempting on stationary traffic - when necessary and safe - to get to the front of the lights. Two months on and I've managed to clip two wing mirrors, latest being just last week. The second time it happened, I knew it was too narrow but I had committed so I ended up squeezing through only to fail miserably. Both times I pulled up on to the side of the road and apologised, they were both women drivers and after checking there were no serious damage we parted ways. I guess I've been lucky so far to not have any claims made a…

Hello, I recently purchaced a 1999 DT 125 R. I have had it serviced and have had fresh tires and a new expansion pipe. The old one had been eaten through by rust and so was blowing. This is where the problem lies. I left the garage and allowed it time to warm up properly and took it for a spin. It lost all its low and medium end power and hits a powerband at around 8k revs. It feels slower and is difficult to keep in the power. I went on the dual carriageway to see if it would pull through each gear and see what it tops out at. The top speed went from 81 with the derestricted stock pipe down to 71 with the new exhaust. When I change into 6th gear from 5th at 10k rev…

Also, I want to paint the head/barrels/crankcases......... Looking for someone who maybe works from home who is a 2 stroke nut, or ex-racer etc. Stan Stephens looks very expensive.... I'm nearish to Gatwick, but willing to travel...... Any ideas? ( pm me if you wish?) thanks, Richard

Well I got my bike rebuilt consisting of Piston, rings small end bairings, athena gasket, carbon reeds and changed the head to a 3mb everything went fine took a few hours fired her up and she sounded perfect a little smokey but that will be due to me oiling up the barrel with 2t oil. Anyway I left her ticking over for 10 mins like I normally do went back into garage and there was steam coming from radiator cap and the temp was sky high.... I'm beginning to wonder if the head might be warped or something? Is it possible to have airlock??? I'm going to be having another look tomorrow but I want a few pointers as to what I should be looking for? I just turned her off a…

  12. Hi I recently emptied my engine oil for a refill and also put in a new set of clutch plates. Now i have everything back together. No engine oil is in it. would this be the reason for my clutch lever to have no force/resistance in it? If i refill the oil would the clutch lever comes back to life? Cheers in advance for the help!

Well, I picked up my Fazer today from Bike543 in Oldham. Just ridden back to Leeds in the peeing rain, come off M621 brake and there's vibrations throughout the handlebars. By the time I get to my house it seems more noticeable (though not really used brakes on motorways unlike riding through city traffic). Pop it on centre stand at home, pull front wheel forwards & backwards and there's loads of movement. Very surprised as they had it MOT'd last week for me to pick up. Does make me wonder if there's anything else up with it...? Anyway, I've given them a call & they said they'll get back to me. Hopefully won't take too long as was looking forward to getting out …

Hey peeps, There's been something brewing in the depths of my skull for a while now, and it came out in conversation with some lads at the pub last week. basically, ive been planning a project for the past year or so, and now i've gotten rid of one of my old minis im more likely to be able to do it, i want to find a pre-1972 bike (probably a CZ or Honda CB as they are cheap and plentifull) and use its frame as a basis for a custom built tax-exempt toy with an inline twin engine of around 500cc, spoked wheels with retro cafe-racer styling. So, say for example i got myself a 1971 CB250 and used its frame and V5 as my base, all the other parts will either be handmad…

  18. Hi there peeps i have been hoarding parts for my DT50MX project for a few months now but there is one part that no breaker seems to have and appear to more rare than rocking horse sh*t made of unobtanium with hens teeth in it. It is the rear light bracket/assembly, which also holds the number plate, i have bought a universal stop/tail light for the time being but it would require new mounting holes to be drilled in the rear mudguard and bracket and is not the original part which sort of defies the whole point of this project in addition to requiring a self-fabricated number plate mount. is there a way that i can find the part number, and find out which other m…

A friend of mine is rebuilding a 2004 Dt125re, the bike was bought as an incomplete project the engine fitted is a 4GW which I think is a TDR. The engine runs and sounds sweet but the only problem we have is the YPVS system dosn't work, It originaly came with a 3 wire servo that didn't match the loom, so we aquired a 5 wire plugged it in, nothing, The wiring loom looks to be the original and we've checked it for condition & continuity. What I do want to know, is if there should be power to the YPVS servo when the ignitions turned on, so that it can go through its cleaning process, if so ,where does the power come from ? my guess is the cdi unit. The CDI i…

I just purchased a 2005 yamaha with the title titling the bike as an r7.I did some research and found that it came from Greece. It has 51 kilometers on it.The vin# reads rn121-018063.The engine #n509e 021915.Is this a true european r7 or just a european r1?The bike was seized by u.s. customs and sat for 6 years.
