I just want to use a handheld odd2 code reader on my 2019 yamaha smax I think I use the light green wire behind the battery and I need to purchase an adapter. I was hoping someone could talk me thru the process. Thank you

Hi folks, I’m looking for some advice on increasing an XV125 to a 250cc My plan is to swap the cylinders and pistons to 49mm bore set. The rest of the bike is pretty much the same as the 250 model so I don’t foresee any big issues. Question: Will I also need to change the con rods? Or will the existing 125 con rods work? Are there any other factors I should be aware of? Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Philip

  4. Hello everybody, I have a Yamaha 650XVS Dragstar which has been converted to a Trike. I bought a brand new all singing, all dancing battery for it a couple of months ago as the old battery was not designed for starting engines (I know nothing.) I've been using the Trike twice a week since then, the last ride out was Monday when it was extremely hot. I wanted to go for a run on Thursday but when I turned the key in the slot I got no reaction whatsoever. No neutral light, no engine warning light and no lights on the trike as usually happened. I checked the battery with a multi meter and got a 0.03v reading. I jump started the engine and when idling got 12.5v …

  6. Started by Richard Thrush,

I have recently acquired a 1985 sr500. It has sat idle for around 12 years and whilst it starts, it doesn’t run so a carb clean is required. However, whilst sat at idle I have noticed an oil leak in the vicinity of the collector box(?) on the exhaust. It could be from above this but not sure. What I am looking for is a diagram showing the engine/ exhaust (exploded or perhaps workshop diagram) that I can use to identify parts and problem areas as I am new to bikes. I also need a reliable source for spares, the bike is an import on a 2J2 frame number that the local Yamaha dealer has failed to identify. many thanks in advance. Richard

  7. So, since I bought my Thunderace 2.5 years ago, my poor old Vauxhall Vectra has had hardly any use. For the last Year and a half it's just sat sadly outside the house (on the drive) SORNed. It's beyond my personal skillset to put right, so I am donating it free of charge to Wakefield Technical College (Automotive Department), where it will spend the next 2-3 years being taken apart and put back together and so on by the Mechanic Students... But we've run into a snag... They have someone that can come and pick it up on one of his own trailers, but they've got a couple of people self isolating and they have no one that can stand in and take his classes wh…

I am midway through building a bobber and after reading forums, I am very confused about the laws regarding them.. So far what has been done: Rear suspension replaced with 9 1/2 inch solid struts Sprung Solo Seat Drag Handlebars Handlebar mounted front indicators Ignition / Kill switch rewired to the side of the motorcycle Left side mounted number plate and brake light Silvertail exhausts Removed Chain Guard Removed Front Sprocket Guard Removed Front Fender Most of the responses that I have seen all just say "it depends on what mood the copper is in" Any advice? Thanks

  11. Started by DeanoYZF,

Hello all, I have an original 1993 YZF750R that had a seized exup valve. I removed this and servo, made up a small circuit board of resistors and diodes and plugged into ECU. Problem is, the bike now boggs down until 3,500 RPM, after this she flys all the way through to red line, but in this mode, likely to lose my licence very quickly. Any tips or ideas on how to get over the issue, and make it a user friendly bike across all RPM ? Thanks DeanoYZF

  12. I bought a 1980 Yamaha DT 125g that was running well before but the carb was dumping fuel out the overflow so I tried replacing gaskets and needle valves etc. eventually I put a new carb on and fixed the fuel issue but now whenever the bike is idling and I try to give it throttle at about 3000rpm the rpms will stick and stay there. When I get it even higher sometimes it will shoot up to 7000rpm after I release it. One time the bike even did it on its own. The only way I can stop it is by turning the bike off completely. It doesn’t feel like the throttle is really sticking and I even lubed the whole mechanism up. Does anyone have a clue as to how I can fix this?

I have a Yamaha XS250 in my garage that has not been used for quite a while. It is in good condition and runs well. It will have a new mot and was first registered in September 81. Can anyone tell me what this may be worth and whether anyone is interested in buying it? Any information will be gratefully received. Many thanks Mark

  14. Started by Sarah Richards,

Hi All I am after some help. My husband acquired an unregistered 2008 YAM JOG RR 50CC to get me back on the bike as I was knocked off a few years ago in Spain. The bike belonged to an old rider training school and never went on the public roads. So 1200miles it was pulled out of the iso container and sold to us. My dilemma is, how do I register it? I have the V55/5 which is blank. It asks for a Registration Number which obviously i dont have. some help and guidance would be appreciated. Thanks Sarah

  15. Started by slice,

Well it seems that I am really thinking of changing the FJR, been looking at the new Trumpet speed tripleRS, it's not officially available till April I think but it does look nice! Just asking really but are they any better than the horrible things I used to ride back in the day? My Bonnerville was great in a straight line but just god awful in bends plus the loss of oil was always a bit of a concern on long rides. I have heard as well that some of the latest trumpets have gearbox problems and that would be a bit of a bummer. I really need something a LOT lighter than the FJR as I have some problems with the sheer weight of the Yam as it weighs in at a massive 300 plus ki…

  20. Started by WildeOne,

I had total faith in my newly acquired XVS650 Custom - until a 100 mile trip down the A1(M) to London and halfway back again, when engine misfires began, increased and reduced speed to a sufficiently dangerous 30mph on the hard shoulder to get be off at the next roundabout. Gel battery swollen and drained. Overcharging? Rectifier not tested but I have bought a substitute. I'm more troubled by the misfires which to me suggests CDI issues. The bike is nearly 20 years old and has probably not seen too much top top speed travelling, being (I think) mostly used as a commuter in London.) Given that the bike is no longer in production, eplacement CDI …
