  1. You need a parts catalogue and this link should help. http://www.ytcn.nl/archief/Archief/Yamaha%20Parts%20Manuals%20ALL%201950-1996/AT/AT2_CT2_AT3_CT3.PDF TTB
  2. Very very nice job there Roger, looks a bit like mine except you have the genuine shocks.. Heres mine before and after. TTB
  3. Excellent work there DT3, i know what its like to try and find parts for early DT,s , also the green is my favourite colour. Shame they dont do metalics any more on trail bikes. TTB
  4. Not a bad 43F Rex, just like mine. TTB
  5. We are all different but i have got to agree DirtyDT. TTB
  6. Is the air filter standard or has is a k&n fitted. TTB
  7. Looks like the correct term is a bearing spacer, best to buy from a genuine dealer i would say for the sake of £20. Most yam dealers will post but i deal with Webbs of Lincoln for many years. Choice is yours but there is also a guide washer to keep the bearing near centre, if it was plane tube it can be a pain to line the tube central in the inner hub, only my view. TTB
  8. Very nice standard bike indeed, would mind a later version just to add to my few.. TTB
  9. You have missed it this year as it was in May, seems to be on every year and its really If you look at the Wolds biker site you will see the good.run dates and the biker nights , Spilsby bike nights good. TTB.
  10. You didnt miss much really http://thelincolnite.co.uk/2013/06/lincoln-bike-fest/ , Wolds bikers do a run every so often and the best one to go on is the East Kirkby Aviation run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5Xz2g1gAEA TTB
  11. We could have met up today at the bikefest, TTB
  12. Well i cant agree more if the bikes are outside, weather knocks the crap out of them even in a garage. Run em , use them and replace them when there completely caput. TTB
  13. No farm just a double garage and some at work, i have 4 legal at the moment but truth be told i have only used my TT500 and my XT500C, the TTR600 sits there waiting as does the xt660R due to them not having that old something feeling, dont ask me what that something feeling is, but the TT is a hoot on the county lanes. Its happy plodding on in top or just as happy pulling wheelies in 2nd and one of the best bikes i have had. , Heres the 3 i wont live without as well as my TY50P In fact its sooooo good i am just building a 78 yellow model once my Honda TL125 is done. TTB
  14. I have a T shirt that says , You can never have too many motorbikes. I would also agree there as well. TTB
  15. Dont forget in the early days Yamaha offered a GYT kit which could offer a 21" front , piston kit , high level mudguard and exhaust. I also have a DT1B with a 21" wheel which isnt a standard wheel size for that year, i think if you want a 21" wheel you will have to find a later mudguard. TTB
  16. Try Keith at Motolink www.yamahaspares.uk.com Rebuilt 2 of my TT600 rear shock but there ohlins so he may not ne able to do stock shock. TTB
  17. Well done Dave , i like the old DT stuff. heres a link for the repo tank badges . http://www.mikesxs.net/products-12.html#products and if you need any sheathing you can find it here. http://www.vintageconnections.com/ Regards registering the bike its fairly easy if there is a dvlc inspection office near by though you will need a dating certyificate from Yamaha or VJMC , an mot against the frame mumber , insurance again on the frame number a few days before you send the paperwork over or go to the DVLA offices. Hope it helps. TTB
  18. The screw has a peg on the end of the screw which is off center to the screw, this sits inside a recess on the clutch lever shaft which when unscrewed should lift the shaft and drop back down as the peg is unscrewed, As the shaft is sounds as if its seized the only options i think would be to place some pressure under the lever while trying to undo the screw, only other option is maybe to split the casings and get some heat on the shaft and bearing, not too much mind., a hot air gun is a good option or place it in the oven . 19. I think i have some experiences with the XT range owning only a few. Starting from the oldest. 1975 XT500C Nice clasic bike but expensive for every day use, easy to ride but needs a good right leg to start but very easy to ride and enjoyable 1977 TT500D Nice rare xt 500 version needing the same right leg to start and technique , cool like the XT and a hoot on the country lanes. 1978 XT500E same as the 500C but not as rare but still enjoyable to the point i dont want to get off it once im out on it. 1984 XT600 43F lovely ride and still needs a good right leg, easy to ride and a hoot again on the country lanes small tank but easy to wheelie. 1985 TT600 59X same motor as the 43F but smaller inlet valve wo more torque, YZ49 forks and ohlins rear so excellent and grunty on country roads 1986 XT600 tenere electric start and a huuuuge big petrol tank easy ride and just as much grunt as the XT600 1999 XT600 2KF same grunt and same hoot on the country lanes , cheap good fun if you can find a good one , still needs a bigger right leg. 2001 TT600R Awesome bit of kit , same right leg required but lots of fun , small petrol tank though so limited range but excellent off road but heavy 2010 XT660R excellent all round bike small fairing if your on the motorways , electric start and very good on country lane but heavy off road. Fueling is only an issue when riding and low speed 15 20mph in town as it at a speed that cause a surging feeling but I prefure the 660 than than my old BMW 1200 Adventure. I cant comment on other makes or models but all the XT range have something going for them, have atest ride on a 660 first then try all the others. One good bike to start with was the BMW 650 Dakar which was an easy bike to live with and reliable. Hope it helps, and only the chosen few who have owned an XT500 will be able to give any negative feedback. My favourite , all of them TTB
  20. My money is on the coil lead tracking across to earth , is there a rubber boot both on the coil side and the plug cap. Use NGK or Champion caps but just add some silicone sealer into the lead ot eliminate any chance of water ingress, Also worth checking the positive lead to the coil and check the earth points at the coil, eliminate this area and work you way back to the CDI unit and the generator coil. TTB
  21. I wouldnt want to put a damper on things but from personal experience i would change the piston pin, main reason being if its a new rod they may not bed in correctly , not only that all XT models doesnt seem to need much clearance on the pin to start the top end knock. Only my personal choice so dont shoot me down. TTB
  22. Hi Yamahead and thanks chaps for the good feedback. I will start a new topic when i get the frame back. TTB
  23. The XT250 is a cracking bike I had one many years ago and my lad loves his, Get a good one and there great fun and reliable, Also starting to go up in value. TTB
