In need of some guidance please. I've just joined this forum having recently purchased a 1980 registered MR50 (DT50M) import from Japan for my 15 yr old son to restore and make ready for him to ride. This is my first Yamaha in 34 years of riding bikes and my first import. Finding the right bits is proving to be a challenge. The MR50 appears to be very similar to the DT50M. (well I think so.) Can someone advise whether MR50 parts are available in the UK or is it case of order what appears to be right based on pictures of DT 50 M and MX parts. In particular the airbox assembly seems as though it may be unique to the MR. Is this the case? Are there any other parts that are …

Hey there everyone! My name is Ben, or known as boots (hence the forum name) and I own a 1980 Yamaha V50, along with various other project cars and a couple of other bikes Hoping to find more info about my bike (such as workshop manuals etc) and make use of the other members advice for various maintenance tasks that may arise. At this stage, just going to keep the bike in as original shape as I got it as possible, with the only major cosmetic change being a recovered seat. Thanks!

Colin from sunny north ayrshire in Scotland, got a 1998 thundercat, having a few proplems with it, with the revs hanging. It had lay about for 8 year before I got it, oil filter got changed and it was riding ok until it started cutting out when pulling up to stop junctions or lights, the rpm was round about the 500/600rpm, so thought about turning them up, and then it started hanging at the 2000rpm before it came back down after 30 sec. i cleaned out the carb and that, oiled the throttle cables and even disconnected the return cable so the spring back is ok, trying to adjust the pilot screws because I heard on another forum, but it be anything else or is anybody managed t…

Been a yamaha man most of my life going back to tz's in the 70's. In the garage are a 75 us dt175, 77 uk dt175, a one owner 89 yb100, 89 cota 349, 89 one owner transalp, triumph tr25, dt175 mx field bike and a gpz 1260 that will morph into a elr replica when time allows. I have been a restorer for as long as I can remember and thought it time to join a club a club. Whilst I intend to keep the uk dt I intend to sell the us one at sometime along with my spares stash (NOS and used) as I need to cure myself of the habit? Somewhere in the loft i have nos rd50 cast wheels, rd200 fuel tank, powervalve tail unit, , panel, td3 cylinder, tz250 exhaust, told you I was addicted. …

Hi all, Found a steal (DT125R) for £250. It was used as a field bike so now it's in a bit of a state. Brought it as a project to restore and use out on the tracks. I came across this forum looking for but think it would be easier to join and get the help I need from what seems like a great bunch. First up what model my guess it's the 89' DT 125 R how can I tell. Second, best place for parts and find a set of decals. Will post in more specific threads later. Many thanks, Dan

Hi everyone. I just picked up a 1980 SR250 yesterday. She's a real beaut and I'm very excited. It's my first motorcycle. I rode dirt bikes as a kid getting all Xtreme and whatnot, but now that I'm grown and live in the city it's time for a new hobby. I know little about motorcycles, but I'm pretty handy ands I'm eager to learn, which is why I got this bike. They seem relatively simple as far as street bikes go. The bike runs great now, and is in pretty good cosmetic condition. My plan is to ride til it gets too cold, and then spend the winter disassembling, cleaning and doing some mods. All with the intention of finishing for spring. We'll see haha As I get into the phas…

Hi All, I just wanted to say hi to everyone and that I hope that I can keep you updated through the below journey and no doubt will need your support at some stage. I should say that I have never undertook a project like this before but am inspired by some of the work you guys have done. I own a 1996 DT125R and have done for over 8 years but had been running on my friends farm, however it has been sitting in the shed dormant for around 4 years. A few weeks ago I decided to sell it to clear space in the shed, but once people started making me offers etc I got cold feet and decided that I don't want to sell but return her to her full glory (albeit with a new look). I …
