Hey all. I dont really know what i'm getting myself into here but i drug my dads old yamaha out of a barn earlier because i'd like to get it running this summer. The thing hasnt started in my lifetime that i remember (23 years) but it seems to be in good shape. I can assume the gaskets are rotted and gone, all fluids are bad, battery shot. To my surprise tho i was able to pop it into neutral and back into gear, also i stomped the kick start and could hear it pump and it jumped forward. The first question I have is how to read the vin because i have no information on the bike. The vin is ct1 104527, i think, ive read quite a few decoding sites that only do 17 digits and so…

Hi folks, Well here i am at 40 with my first bike, a yammy ybr 125. Never really thought about biking until my son, who turned 16 last year asked me to do the cbt with him for support. Here i am now with my full test booked in for the second week in april. My 125 has been great fun to learn on, but 8 months on, hitting 9k revs at 75mph is getting a touch annoying lol. Anyway, all things well i should be part exchanging next moth for something bigger. Attempting my first oil change tomorrow, i let the garage do the first one. Does anyone know how much oil i will need please? I know its 10w/40 just not sure of the amount, Kindest regards, Denver

I thought that I'd finally get around to joining the forum after being lead here multiple times by google searches looking for advice. My name is Luke and I'm from Australia. I have 2 Yamaha's First of all a 1985 SR 250 I'm close to having registered And secondly an 1987 FZR 1000 which being the sensible person I am....and not having access to anything else I learnt to ride on. Unfortunately I have dropped it twice.....Both times just pushing it out of the way in the garage,The good news is that i havent damaged it bar a tiny, barely noticeable dent in the tank. The FZR doesn't have any fairings as it was bought naked, I'm considering an R1 tail conversion o…

Hi, name is Steve and I'm from Southwest Michigan, not far from Grand Rapids. I currently own 3 bikes, an '83 Goldwing Aspencade with 67k, a '78 Yamaha XS750D with 24km and an '82 KZ1000LTD with 20k. My newest project belongs to my son's girlfriend, a 1972 Yamaha CT175 Enduro. IIRC, she inherited it from her grandfather, and it's been sitting in a barn for a while. I'll be bringing it back to the shop soon, but as I understand it will run but not currently idle, the kickstart doesn't work, and it'll need some blinkers. Lots of sentimental attachment so she'd really like to ride it, which is what brought me to this site. I'm not new to bikes or wrenching on them but haven'…

I recently purchased a new 2009 Stratoliner and it is my first Yamaha. I haven't riden it yet because I live in the Great White North and the roads need to clear up a bit first and I need to get insurance. I am looking for an insurance company that can bundle all my bikes into one package and not bone the shit out of me in the process. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Anyways I am looking forward to crossing the country a couple of times this Summer and enjoying my new ride.

G'day everybody. I am John ,living in New Zealand ,currently the fresh owner of a FZ 750 YAMAHA (of course) race/track bike . I picked it up for a fair price but its not meant to be getting exercise with no lights ,gauges, reg. warrant of fitness (legal cert. for use on the rd.) ,nor sound warning device(horn).I can assure all it runs as well as when new! Any way I started to read about a guy fitting FZR parts to his Fz750 and got wrapped up in the story as he went about it with an interestingly difficult approach . I have to applaude his topic, the pictures that went on it, and the tenacious application to altering stuff until a result was had. Also to his methodi…

An Introduction To Old Bike Rehab Or, in other words: What I've learned rebuilding my first motorcycle/ share your top tips for a 2 stroke rebuild and startup so it doesn't blow up and or short out the electrics. I live in southern Illinois, in the U.S. After being off two wheels for close to a couple decades I decided it was time to get back in the game. The main reasons I started looking for a bike again were good gas mileage for running around town and also a second vehicle in case of a car breakdown, or a zombie outbreak where I have to head for the hills. After much research, I settled on the DT series because I wanted something that I could work on myself. …

Just bought this bike 1997 model, (I know its not much of a bike, but all I could afford) It's ok so far, apart from the accelerator stays on full sometimes when idle, cant see anything wrong with the cable and the handle itself moves ok. Also there doesnt seem to be much of a back brake, although the pads should be fine, just had mot. Having just passed cbt, (at 50!) these two things are making riding difficult ie: having to slowly release the clutch to stop it revving when stopped in traffic and just using the front brake, especially down steep hills is a little hairy..also have had to use front brake whilst setting off from a hill junction (not quite sure ho…

Evening all. So I had the pleasure of picking up my 1st 'big bike' today. I plumped for a '92 FZR 600 Genesis on the basis that it is fast enough to scare me and cheap enough incase I slide it down the road sideways. If it gets through the MOT tomorrow the £350 it cost could well be the bargain of a lifetime. I'll put picks up when i get it back. Anyway, I'm in the East Lancs area and keen as mustard to get out on my new toy so if you are in the area and fancy a ride out... Other than bikes I like real ale, brews in massive mugs and footy. Looking forward to meeting you either on the forum or even better, actually out on bikes!
