Hi, my name is Dan and I live near Youngstown, OH. I have a 1968 Yahama YL-1 that was bought by my uncle and then was owned by my father. It hasn't left the garage in well over 30 years. My whole life I've wanted to get it back on the road, and I guess the time has finally come. The chrome is all pitted but otherwise it's in excellent shape and I don't think it will be much of a challenge at all to get it running. Only problem is that I know nothing about motorcycles. I've never even driven one. I do restore vintage Volkswagens for a living, though, so hopefully some of that will transfer over. I am sure this place will be a very valuable resource for …

Hi Everyone, I am from Sydney, Australia and have just purchased a Yamaha TownMate T80 that is still in the UK awaiting shipment to Sydney. I worked in Greece for a few years in the early 90s renting cars and mopeds and used to rent these bullet proof machines and I was instantly hooked. With fuel prices getting out of control here, this is the machine to have, even though Yamaha Australia, in their wisdom, never imported the TownMate into Australia. Very much looking forward to receiving it and restoring it so I am on the lookout for NOS parts for it, so if anyone knows of where I could source some parts, please let me know, I would appreciate it. It would…

Hey there, Im Dom and Im 19. Been riding since August and loving every moment. I know im only on a 125cc so I cant exactly say I'm a rider yet... but i can say is i have the ultimate goal of possessing (and maybe even marrying) an XJR1300 :') I hope the saying good things come to those who wait is true. I started off using garage/mechanics to service my bike but only recently i thought... ''hey! i really like those bikes, why dont i learn more about them!!'' and thats half the reason why im here. It would be awesome to talk to some interesting people, hear of great places to ride/ or riding, hear peoples experiences so i dont go wrong and general bike rela…

Hi everyone im new to the forum. Im Chris, 27 from Benfleet in Essex. Got a 2000 Virgao XV125, had it since September. Nice bike and runs well...until the other day. Had a ride from Benfleet to Stambridge via Southend (about 25 miles), all was well until I stopped the bike briefly (literally 2 minutes) and when I tried starting it again there was just a electrical cyclical sound coming from what I think it the starter motor! Had to bump start it to get it home. topped up battery with distilled water, cleaned connections to battery and went to charge it but charger read that battery was full. Being a newb to anything bike related I really dont know the next step without ta…

Newbie here. Just bought a 78 DT400 sight unseen on CL. PO said it ran fine. When I ride it it runs good for about a mile then starts pinging and knocking and becomes unrideable. I've cleaned the carb three times and have ensured that the bike is stock (80 pilot jet, 180 main jet, main nozzle I am not sure of did not see any markings) I have two questions: First is are the main nozzles marked? Second is can the air jet be seen from the rear of the carb? I can't see one on mine and I'm wondering if it got shot out during the many carb cleanings it had. Do they even have an air jet? Any help would be appreciated thanks...

Hello everybody, just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. My name is Matt and I'm from Virginia. I'm not only the new owner of a 1988 FZ600 but a new rider/motorcycle enthusiast all together. I have always wanted to have a motorcycle and finally took the initiative to learn to ride when I was 19 or so, I'm now 24 and just now got around to getting a bike. (Hey don't judge me a lot has happened in between!) The bike was abandoned, therefor I know nothing of its past aside from what I discover as this project moves along. So far I've ordered a manual, taken it apart some and bought a battery. I have seen the great works of online forums can do for a complete newbie, so …

Hi all! My name is Harry. I am 18 years of age and started riding bikes as soon as I legally could (maybe before) I'm currently in the process of passing my test and am considering the wonderful R6 once passed. Obviously it will need to be restricted to 33BHP. Could anyone give any advice on insurance premiums?? Thanks Harry

Hi there. I bought my first motorcycle a few weeks ago - a XS400. Previous owner had said it was running a little rough a few years ago and took off the tank to do some maintenance... and never finished the job. After cleaning out a strange green gunk (is that what gas looks like when it is 2 years old?) and rebuilding the carb, got it started after many tries. It is running pretty rough, and hesitates when revved. One cylinder doesn't seem to be firing (one exhaust pipe is cold), but it does have spark. Seems to be getting fuel... as gasoline sputters out the tailpipe on that side. So... I've got some work to do.

Hi Everyone, I am from Sydney, Australia and recently bought a non-starter 1981 XT250 for $360 as my first bike. I have been inspired by the awesome cafe racers at Deus Ex Machina and decided to build my own. I have no experience in mechanics other than a love of lego and mechano from my childhood. Cheers, Rob

Afternoon! I've just won a Yamaha YZF R125 on ebay Having just passed my CBT I thought I might as well buy something sporty seeing as I come from an MR2 Turbo, Celica GT and Celica GT4 background! The bike's got 5000 miles on the clock, I won it for the princely sum of £2251 I'm wondering if there's anything major coming up service wise at that mileage? I think the sprockets and chain where changed at the last service (sometime late last year) Any other info on performance improving upgrades and so on would be sweet. Also, what're bar none the best tyres available in the recommended sizes for the stock wheels? Money isn't really an object (wit…
