Shes a bit on the beaten up side {bought her that way) but a fun fast ride nonetheless. I also just 2 days ago while doin some gorse tradin, aquired a 1981 maxim 550, which im hoping to get running for the wife to learn on. At the moment the 1100 is down with an exhaust issue, had to pull the header pipes and broke a stud. im kinda sketchy about tryin to EZ out it myself, as im unsure as to what kind of thickness im dealing with around those studs.... any give me an idea? i REALLY dont wanna mess t…

Hi everyone, I finally came across this cool site that I can share my joys/pitfalls in trying to restore a 1975 DT400 that I just picked up. I'm 44 and live in Canberra, Australia (well..near it). I have never restored a motorbike before but have ridden bikes for years. I grew up learning to ride on a bright orange 1975 DT250. Many year on, I yearned for a similar bike but came across a 1975 DT400 that was probably more fun to restore. The bike is basically complete, but needs a total restoration job done on it. I have found eBay very useful as well as Yamatopdog int he US for getting parts. At this stage, I have stripped a lot of it but want to actually get the…

Brought a bit of a dog as a project..... before http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/l506/StuartWags/ did all the work myself, work needed:- Exhaust = rotted disk pads = stuffed all round fork seals = well leaking tyres = knackered rear suspension linkage = making bad noises body panels = various cracks, scrapes, been droped on LHS with bits broken off screen and generally neglected charging system = dead overall = very run down it is amazing how this bike was transformed in such a short period of time brought as spares or repair A month later back on the road and very pretty it looks too... still does what it should do and went off the clock prone…

Hi everyone, I'm Rae, I just bought my first bike, a 1994 TZR125R, only just took my CBT last week. I'll probably be asking loads of questions like "how does this work?" so I hope I don't get too annoying! Excuse the cheesy face on the picture, I was very excited!

I'm a new rider. Picked up a 1982 Maxim (XJ650) for my first bike. I'm loving it and have picked it up quickly...riding that is. My question is, to those of your that have Maxims, what's the real gas mileage and tank size? My manual claims the tank will hold 3.4 gallons plus .9 gallons for reserve. I don't believe that one bit. So far, I've only been able to get about 100 miles before my bike concs out and I have to switch to reserve. When I fill it, it barely just barely will take 2.5 gallons. I think I'm going to run it dry in the next few days to see how long my reserve will last me. Any advice is appreciated.

hi,guys, joined last September, but never got around to saying hi, so, better late then never! got this little baby from the USA, only 4700 miles on it and in very nice condition for a 35 year old bike. must have been wrapped in cotton wool, not a spot of rust on her at all. even the nuts and bolts are shiny. slight rip in the seat, but managed to get a seat cover from Canada, which i've fitted myself, not a bad job for my first attempt. started a major clean up last year, pulling all the connectors apart and cleaning with contact spray, amazing amount of white sand was found in some of them, but she did come from Arizona, so no surprise. pulled off the …

Hi, My name is Simon and I am knocking on the door of 50. I am in the process of returning to biking after a 30 year break. The only two bikes I owned in my youth were a P reg DT125 and a 1981 RD 250LC. Luckily I managed to pass my test just before I sold the LC to buy a car! I think I'm having a mid life crisis because I am once again after a Yamaha 2 Stroke of 1980 vintage (wish I'd kept the LC it was a year old when I sold it for £800). This forum is a goldmine of information. Apologies in advance for what I think may be a lot of questions! Best regards to all Simon (Newbie)
