Just wondering what all the XV250 owners are getting for mileage. I got a best of just under 68 mpg, and a worst of 61 mpg. 65 is what I got on the last 3 fill ups I checked the mileage on, and seems to be the average. They were pretty much highway rides of speeds not really exceeding 70 mph mixed with speeds in the 60 mph range. This puts my range at about 120 miles before reserve needs to be turned on. Seems normal or too low? Other owners claim to get 80+ on a regular basis ? Bike has about 1700 miles on it now. Bought it used w/ about 1150 miles on it. Air pressure set at high settings (I weigh about 210 lbs) and engine oil's been changed (Yamalube 10w40) a…

Hey everyone, if you've seen any of my posts you might know that I'm pretty young and have never had chance to customise a bike before. I'm looking at getting a dragstar 650 when I turn 17 next January and I wanted to ask a few questions about the bits that I want to add/customise. I've read through all the posts on customs up to page 6 so I'm really sorry if I missed an answer and in some cases I am just looking for confirmation. Here goes :S 1. Seats - I get the impression that the stock seat isn't so great and have noticed this "mustang" seat coming recommended from some people, are they hard/expensive to acquire? 2. Pipes - I've heard stock pipes on the …

I thought we had hijacked the xvs 250 for long enough to start another one! Any of you guys belong to clubs? I'm a new member of the VSOC club and have been discussing the merits of owners clubs Vs "none affiliated” clubs with TaskMaster. I also belong to TVAM and am just about to take my advanced test, I can thoroughly recommend it, I came back to biking after a ten year lay off and its amazing what you forget... Also both clubs have loads of ride outs and its good to see what other guys have done there bikes Stu

Hi, I've passed my full test two weeks ago now and desperately want a xvs 250 dragstar as my first bike. I have been looking on the internet (auto trader/ mcn/ general googling) every day now. And they all seem to be being sold before I have a chance to go and see them. I would have to visit at the weekend or in the evening as I work. I was wondering if any of you lovely people know of any being sold in the south of the country and could put me in touch. I live in Oxfordshire by the way. I thought about getting a xv 535 virago and getting it restricted as I am limited to 33bhp for two years, is this wise? Would getting the 650 dragstar restricted make it seriously s…

hi guys, in the middle of kicking the xv250's arse, i know these engines are capable of going like stink, so rebuilding. am i the only one or has anyone else noticed the air filters are either non existant or taking the piss on price? tip for others aswell, highway hawk air filter covers and punch out the plastic so it's a open grill, breathes much better

Hi. I'm riding a XVS650 (love it!) with the standard pipes. I am thinking of changing the pipes to get a better sound. I don't want anything too loud as I'm not into p***ing off the neighbors, but I do want "that" sound. Can anyone advise on which pipes to get (highway hawk? Jardine?, etc..???). I few people have said that replacement pipes can get 'blueing', which I don't want. I also want to be able to fit them easily with no complicated re-jetting. Help!!

Hey all, a little question, does anyone have links for UK dealers of third party seats for the XVS1300 Midnight Star. I know accessories are rare as gold dust for these bikes at the moment, but its particularly galling knowing that riders in america have easy access to Mustang, Corbin and Ultimate seats whilst they are almost impossible to find over here. Thanks for any help in advance Dave

Smiles all, My Carb Manifolds have finally given out. Do I really need to spend £75 odd on brand new OEM ones, or is there someone in the UK who does cheaper/better ones at a reasonable price? Ta, Woody.
