Hey all, I have been offline for over a year and now I'm back. I have stainless steel braided cables on my 2000 model 650 Dragstar, but since I chopped her up and extended the front end by 6 inches with the 16inch apes, the cables are impossible to find at the correct length. So I bought a set that are slightly too long as it was my only option. Is it possible to shorten them by 9inches? Regards Austen

  4. My XV only produces a single strong click on pushing the starter. The battery seems to be fine with over 12V when tested with the multimeter, the bike also bump starts fine. The connection to the starter just over 12V when the button is pressed, so I have come to the conclusion that the starter is dead. I have found YBR starters to be much more common and cheaper than specific ones listed as specifically for the XV. They look similar, but are they actually the same unit? as a poor student I'm hoping so!

Hi folks! Today a guy offered to me the Xzilon 3 AECI stuff for polising metal/painted parts. It is an aircraft exterior appearance corrosion inhibitor approved by Boeing and Airbus. Demonstrated on my bike and results are very good: shiny and smooth surface. Serious stuff just like it's price: €90 a bottle. Xzilon does someting similar for cars: has somebody used that one? Alternatively could you recommend some good cleaning/polishing product what would keep dust, water and insects away? Thank you Hit the road

G'day all. Just joined the forum as the wife has a little XV250 Virago. I'm going to be turning it into a Bobber for her. A mate has a 1999 XVS 1100 and was wondering what is the widest tyre/rim size he can go (as he is looking at custom wheels) without modification or with modification (what are the mods required)?? Cheers.

Hi all, I am new to the XVS, I previously had an SV 650s and then a GSXR 750, both of these bikes gave me sore legs and a painful rist, I also got tired of the bikes trying to kill me.... So far I love this bike, the cruiser position is so much better for comfort, I did 300 miles alone this weekend! Anyway, on to my point. I brought the bike with no windshield and it looked superb, however anything over 65 mph was too much, the wind would hit me straight in the chest and arms and it felt like I was being pushed off the bike. Now I have a national cycles windshield, this is nice, I have a few issues with the rubber strips that go down the frame and the windshield, …

New to the forum, its a good 'un, done lots of reading...so TY for all the previous! Not had a bike for many years [mumbles a number and coughs], and I'm about to sort myself out a Midnight Star 1300A. Its a little thing, well not so little, but looking at the demo machine in the dealer, the rear plate is a bit of an eyesore. Sticks up like a sail because it mounts above the light cluster... I guess its a splendid 'regulation' UK rear plate, as that's what the dealer has to fit. But there has to be a better way. Not sure of the legality, but you do see some nice neat plates on bikes. Also, when you look at the pics in the brochure, they've got these nice little c…

Looking for someone who may have changed the grips on a Virago (or probably someone out there who just knows). I bought new grips in the 7/8" size because it said they would fit the Virago. After cutting off one of my grips it appears that it actually takes a 1" grip. I don't see many grips in 1" - at JC Whitney anyway. Is it right that these would be 1" grips? My Virago is a 1995 XV750. Thanks! Tag

  17. Hello everyone, newbie here! I've recently bought a 1999 XV535 and it needs a couple of adjustments so that it fits me comfortably (I'm a bit of a shortie....5"2'!). I've sorted out the handlebars with risers, but I have a problem with the footpeg on the right side. When my foot is on the footpeg, my leg is against the exhaust pipe and the bottom of the engine...so I get rather warm!! I haven't taken it on a long ride yet, but I guess that if I do, there could be burning!! Has anyone had this problem, what did you do to resolve it? I'm thinking about footboards, would this work d'ya think?? Thanks peeps! PS - forgot to add that I can't sit …

For that I want to say a big thank you to all the members for the useful info provided. Hoping to be able to contribute to this forum. Until then, cheers from St Albans, UK.
