Hi Guys (and gals) Is there a list of things you should have before you start a project? I'm just about to start restoring my abused bike, I currently have some spanners/socet wrench, a wire brush, a can of gt85 and some enthusiasm. My first order of business is getting her running, then moving on to making her pretty. I'm hoping people can contribute to a non specific list of things to have before starting this project properly. Thanks in advance..

Hi ladies and gents, I've just acquired myself a midnight star (950). It's still at the dealer's so I haven't yet pulled it to bits to check out how much space I have for security pieces. I was wondering what your opinions are? Essentially, I'll be using at least 1 Almax IV chain and padlock (maybe 2 for shits and giggles). I'm also looking for a tracker (maybe mtrack pro). Not bothered about an alarm that would make a noise but bought the Cyclone V3 for its 2 way paging ability (to give me that quick heads up). I found out elsewhere that it wont fit though, so it's gone back. The advantage of not having an alarm is that a would-be scrote may not both…

I rescued a virago 1992 xv750 and trying to get it up and running again. So far the electrics are back up to scratch and both cylinders are firing (only just). The main problem is the carbs, the rear carb has the pilot screw mashed/mangled into the carb body and the choke has seized and snapped off. So this being the case I am looking at other options. 1) buy another set of carbs (very expensive) 2) convert to single carb setup 3) use other carbs I would like to know other carbs can be used for both the single setup or different set. Thanks in advance.

hi everyone, nice to be on the forums! i have an fzs600 but also at the moment a dragstar 125 xvs. the exhaust is holier then the pope and after trying to rectify it with welding i have realised it is well beyond repair. after ringing the main dealer (for a price idea) after a fruitless search of replacement standard parts i had a quote of gone £1000 for the exhaust! what a joke. any way, the bike needs m.o.t before it is sold on and i need to find an exhaust full system for relatievly cheap<£300/350 so i can get things moving. anybody know of any road legal or mot passing systems that are available? anyone have any links i could look at? anyone know…

Nail just off centre in rear tyre on the xv750, are repairs advisable, safe, or is best to replace the tyre? It looks like there is a british standard for repairs, so I guess it should be acceptable to repair, but I'd like to get some views on it from my fellow riders, given the importance. Thanks

Hello all, Just wondering if anyone knows the year that Yamaha stopped making the XVS125? Alot of spare parts provide the range 2000-2004, however, my XVS125 is a 2005?? Could it be that it was actually made in 2004 but registered in 2005? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hello! Hope you are all well! Just wondering if ANYONE can be kind enough to help me...my XVS 125 dragstar failed it's MOT today because of a scored front brake disc. They quoted £140 for a replacement which seems a bit high especially as they will charge fitting ontop. Does anyone know where I can find one for a 2005 model online?? I've managed to find some EBC ones for under £100 but they are for 2000-2004 models. There's also a Kagizume brake disc on eBay but again that is for the 2000-2004 models!!! Can anyone suggest anywhere to find them? Also, can anyone suggest what make to get, etc? Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks as always fellow Yam…

Hi guys...at the left air cleaner of my bike has this electronic device which seems to be a condenser or a relay as I saw somewhat similar ones on ebay. Also there are two wire leads that fit into connectors of the condenser/relay...but I dont know what is negative and poisitive (wires from bike I assume red is positive, black (two wires soldered together ) is negative ) but on this device both connectors are black...cant figure out polarity.. I dont know if its functional, earlier user seems to have had it disconnected for some reason..and I wonder what does it do..all the lights and stuff doing fine..but the wire leads from bike and this electronic bit disconnected.…

My bike stalls when idling even with hot engine, so I have to keep increasing the revs a bit when stationary. I tried to turn the throttle stop screw a tiny bit to remedy this but it won't turn. I didn't manage to look under the rubber protective thingy but it feels like as if it was corroded. Is there any way to get the existing screw to work or do I need to change it? If the latter, how do I go about it? Is it difficult and should I take it to a garage instead?

Are there many XVS950 owners on here? Be interested to here thoughts on the bike compared to others. My gf is getting her first big bike in the next two months. She has a Kawasaki Eliminator at the moment and her short list for her first big bike is an xvs950, honda shadow spirit 750, kawasaki vn800. Anyone owned a couple of these bikes and can compare?

well i decided to try one of these oxygen sensors for my xvs 1300 midnight star to see if it will smooth out the fuel injection at low revs. so sent for one off ebay from greece it was only £16 with postage. i waited quite a while for it to arrive [ over 2 weeks ] but today i fitted it [ took 5 minutes ] and tried it out and what a difference ....they really do work..... it has smoothed out all the bottom end and stopped the snatching. i can recommend to enyone with a midnight star it will be the best £16 you will spend.

Hi Guys, I noticed that the clutch cable on my bike was getting a bit old so i decided to replace it with a new one. I have replaced it and adjusted it to the XV 250 manual settings. i.e 3-5mm play on the clutch lever. Can anyone confirm that the position of the clutch mechanisum looks ok? I am assuming that the arrow on the bottom of the arm is supposed to be in line with the gearbox casing. Also can anyone give me some guidance on the lever arm? When you look at the stem from the gearbox it has a mark on it. I again assume that this is to line up with the gap in the gear lever arm? If this is the case then accord…

Hi All, My project is nearly done but man.... does the little 125 back wheel look a bit 'Jedward'. Theres a decent size spacer in there....can I drop in a 'Hassellhoff' 250 wheel or is that the same size....how about a rip buff and reem 'Peter Andre' off a 600? (I'm resigned to not being able to have a 'Vin diesel' whatsoever). I realise how gay the above sounds, but hell with it, its the new millenium!! lol Heres my blacked out Dragstar, little bit to go (Carbon wrap on mudguards, rear light, tax and mot ought to be done really I guess) Oh, one last question, whats your opinion for LED kits, do I deserve a kicking for even asking, are th…
