Hey guys, new to this forum. im hoping you can help me! Today i purchased a 78' dt 400 not running. alot of the wires are not connected in places, and im not familiar with the way dirtbikes work. i dont need the lights and horn/ signals to work all i want to do is get the bike running. there are two small aluminum boxes under the seat which have wires comming out of them , what are they? do i just have to get power to the spark plug or do i need to use the ignition and starter kill switch? anybody know where i can find a wiring diagram? thanks for your help i greatly appreciate it! 1999 yz 250 ~~Ok im 30 yrs behind on tech so im needing to know a few thing, the kids bike I thought had locked up, upon removal of the clutch side cover I found the KICK return spring bent wedged into the clutch drive gear, so tight I had to dremal cut it out, no damage to gears, ive ordered a new spring, Can I intall new spring without removal of basket? ALSO, the spring end that mounts to case? where does it go exactly, ive got nothing for referance, IF ANYONE has a pic of spring pos. that would be great. also on same side of clutch side cover theres a power valve?? remember im a little behind on this stuff. wot do i do to tune my powervavles up so the bike flys, its full stock standards at the moment exept the, wire earthin to the frame, and the snorkel under the seat has been taken off, it dose 83 maxed out but i need some more power i want it to lift up on me its hard to wheelie atmo, its got like a servo and a pully thing i adjust the cables to line the notch up with the hole, atmo when my bikes ignition is on, the notch is not lined up, as soon as i kick my bike and start it up so its running the notch moves over the hole, and when i rev my throttle it turns clockwise about a quater way round, is this runnin fine or is it f**ked it might just be me tho, ive had th…

Hi, I passed my test yesterday so after ripping my L plates off I went home and set about earthing the wire which allows the power valve to operate fully. I've clipped it to the front fork and it's definately worked as it's pulling a lot more in the higher revs and you can hear the exhaust note change as the valve opens at a certain number of revs. However i still only manage 70 mph tops (was 65mph when restricted), yet reading other topics people are claiming 80/85mph? Is there something i've missed? I'm pretty sure the power valve isn't in the wrong way as i can feel and hear the power increase and i dont believe the bike has been derestricted before. Does any…

I have fumes and gunk coming out of the right hand side of my power valve . I just had a rebore piston and rings now Im not sure if the guy doing the rebore would have taken the valve out whilst doing this but now Ive noticed its got quite a bit of play at the right and wont start any ideas .

Hi again, Can anybody tell me the best way and easiest way to check or replace the oil in my front forks on my DT 125 as the suspension is vey soft and bottoms on grids etc. Can someone recommend a suitable oil to put in them,im 6ft and around 80kg so im not massive but dont want an oil that will make it to hard at the front end. Hi all,this is my 1st post as a new member so be gentle. Just come in from bringing home my new 2005 DT125. My idea is to sell my gilera 50cc moped after ive done my CBT and upgrade to my DT,this in itself brings a question. Can someone shine a light on this, ive been told i need my CBT before i can ride it which i believe to be true but just want to make sure,im 38 and passed my test when i was 17,it was only the guy i bought it off told me i dont need to pass it if im on L plates. hi everyone, im just back from trail riding with my friend. he has a ty175 of 1978 or so and i have a 1976 dt175. he have headlight and i dont, so its sucks at night the fact is i have no headlight since the last one burned out (the headlight and bulb only make one) and i would like to just replace the set with a new one. the thing is i run the dt with no battery, so i should i set my thing so that i dont blow my bulbs. please dont tell me just to put a resistor in the line, what wattage and 6v bulb should i use and inline with what resistance. thanks ! hi all im new here but have been looking at and reading the forum to try and find help. i have a DTR 125 1999. and after reading somewhere cant remember where it seems the headlight is running of the engine as all the other lights work without the engine have to be started bike starts and runs fine but the headlight keeps dimming as the Rev's are let off which makes it hard to see at night at times i would be greatful for any help

Been reading up on it, most say its a restrictor but some complained that they had lost a few mph off their top speed once they had cut it off, has anybody got a real picture of what the intake manifold actually looks like with the 'restrictor' still attached? All i have to go by is the amatuer drawing on dtr125.net, is it possible that this is to help the air-flow not restrict it OR maybe the people who removed it lost power because it was a restrictor but now their bike is running too lean and all they need to do is upjet the feel the benefits, can anyone help me to make the decision to cut it off or leave it be?

I have a 03 reg dtr 125 Just had a rebore and piston and rings went out on it yesterday and it was fine at first some noise running ok then started to cough and splutter so I thought some muck must have got into the carb took it off gave it a quick clean put it back on then it ran very poorley for about 20 meters then cut out seemed as if was misfiring checked the spark all good great compression I Took the carb apart to clean properly put back on still wont start any ideas people oh and is the cut off switch ment to prevent the spark as mine sparking with it in the off position ??

I've found a 91 YZ 250 in good shape, rebuilt and runs good for $1000 Canadian. Price aside, does anyone own a similar bike, and have positive or negative feedback about this year/model? Are the Suzuki's, Kawi's, or Honda's a better bet in the early 90's? I am an intermediate rider who is looking to improve but not race. I ride a lot of trails, and thought I might try a trip around the local motocross track. I currently ride a 77 DT 250, when it's running, and a 77 DT 175.

hiya peepz this is a great site..... i really need some help ive got a yamaha dtr125 1990.. i pulled up 2day and noticed there was a big puddle of red 2 stroke oil under the bike.... ive had a look and noticed its coming out of one of the pipes coming out of the engine..... i really dont know why its doing this and what that pipe is for as there are 3 of them..... please could sum1 help me.... i really dont want my dtr sitting there doing nothing....... look forward to your help guys...... cheerz.....

Hi guys, first time user. I recently bought an 85 200 yamaha atc. The seller said it starts first or second pull ever time---(bs). The only way I can start it is to pull the plug- spray b-12 in the hole-replace plug, then pull rope several times with throttle open. Thats a lot of work. The compression release seems to be working, its getting gas, I guess the spark is (new plug) ok, and I jerk the puddin out of the rope when I try to start it. Could anyone shed any light on this, I would deeply appreciate it? Thanks

Hi Guys ( and Gals).. Some 5 months ago I was up for getting back into the DT groove after some 25 + absence, when I unfortunately had to deal with a family crisis which needed all my focus and left me financially disadvantaged. ..Anyway, those times are behind me now and things turned out thankfully okay.
