Dual Sport, Offroad Bikes

For Yamaha Adventure Touring and Dirt Bikes

  1. Started by Pete,

Me and the wife had a great run today...total of 150 miles. From Llandod, through Llanidloes, then over the mountain to Machynlleth, finally ending up in Dolgellau. Lot of narrow single track roads, and we even managed to have a plod round a few Forestry Commission tracks on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. We deliberately avoid all the major roads, particularly on a Sunday when they turn into Racetrack Wales. About 5 miles from home, an ambulance with all the lights and sirens on was coming the other way. No prizes for guessing why. Anyway, here's some photos.... Parked up by the lake on the Llanidloes to Machynlleth road. Off t…

  10. Started by factoryracingproducts,

Hello everyone, Let me introduce myself. I am Andrew O'Farrell and the owner of Factory Racing Products in Australia. I am a motocross, enduro, desert and speedway racer in Australia and this is my first time on the site! With my business i have many ideas for developing new innovative products for the motocross world. I am wondering if anyone knows how the UFO Corse Yamaha Enduro team made or had made there quick release radiator guards for there bikes? I am also wondering if anyone knows any companys that make radiator guards besides the stock units you can purchase from your local Yamaha dealership? If anyone knows anything or may even know whe…

  12. Started by XT Alan,

First get this out of the way - I Love This Bike. It is my 27th bike, but the first Yamaha I have owned. Buying it wasn't a logical decision. I had a year old CB1300 that was irritating me with a succession of little faults and basically got so peeved I wanted to get rid of it. I got the XT as a straight swap. I'd always wanted a trail type bike (some vague hard man fantasy, I suppose) and said to myself "What the hell!". Observations: 1- Its condition on delivery was distinctly average. Marked plastics, chip on the rear wheel rim. I have complained and hope, at least, to get a new back wheel. Bikers are still 2nd class citizens, go to a showroom and see if you can f…

  13. Started by XT Alan,

Hi Folks, I've just been to watch a section on the Welsh 2 Day. Good fun. I would say I saw a couple of hundred going through. A sprinkling of Yamaha WFs and Hondas, but mainly Suzuki DRZs and KTMs. KTMs seems to be the weapon of choice. Sad to see so few 2 strokes  The smell of Castrol R must be the best smell of all time ........

The motor's really loosening up now....much smoother and more responsive. This week I'll get the oil and filter changed as it's now around 2800 miles. The Metzeler Tourances are scrubbed in....I can highly recommend them. All cleaned and polished (Predator system has really come up well)....and ready to rumble! 8) Here's a few shots I took today in the Elan Valley! Good nick you reckon? 8)

  15. Started by Pete,

Probably the best pro Yam post I've EVER seen. Read this....it really is superb: Gotta chime in on this one. For my money, I am a proud Yamaha man all the way. I have owned Yamaha street, trail and race bikes for 30 years and have always regretted going with another brand. A single bike was the exception, a 1986 CR250R, a very fine ride in it's day. Yamaha's have traditionally always been a more stable mount at speed as opposed to headshaking, quick turning Honda's. This is a trait I treasure and apply in my riding. Down through the relatively short history of Japanese motorcycles (mainly since the 60's), Yamaha has been a consistent innovator and winner i…

.....at the Yam dealers! Fantastic machine, and a big step up in build quality and sophistication from my XT600. I really like the twin high level pipes, and apparently they are 10bhp up on the old 600 as it delivers about 58bhp. Anyone else checked them out yet? BleedinYanks need not answer....cos the nearest you'll get to one is looking at the photo above! Big fat lardy cruisers is all you boys can handle!

  17. Started by Pete,

My XT has just passed 2100 miles (done 500 in 2 weeks) and the more it's being used the better it seems to perform. The previous owner had only done 1600 miles in a year, which was all round town plodding, so I don't think it's ever been cut loose till I had it. Gave it a fair old revving yesterday, and really made it work hard. And when I took it out this morning I noticed that it was more responsive than it's ever been. So, do Thumpers like the XT600 take a lot longer to fully loosen up a new engine than an IL4?

  18. Started by Pete,

As I said before, I'm not too skilful offroad. My boy was having a potter round, he got off for a break, and I jumped on the little DT just to rev it a bit. Course I had no helmet on and foolishly decided to wheelie up a slippery bank. Bad idea really....I'm not sure exactly what happened but I think the back end slid from under me. Somehow I got launched over the handlebars and landed heavily on the side of my face. So now I've got various cuts, bumps and bruises....and what looks to be a black eye coming! Plus my neck must have got twisted and I've got quite a bad headache. My fault completely....no offroad skill and no helmet! Course the incident…

  19. Started by Pete,

.....on the DT175 today! 8) My 13 year old had his first bike ride....he actually popped an accidental wheelie on his first pulling away attempt. Not long after he parted company with it, but him and the bike were fine as he was on grass! Actually, I nearly binned it twice...once when I attempted a sort of "powerslide" that didn't quite work out...and then when I belted up a bank and wheelied at the top. Good wheelie in terms of height cos I was vertical....unfortunately it started veering to one side in mid air! Saved it though....just! The wife then told me to grow up, reminded me I was 50, and made me take the bike home in case I wrecked it! …
