Not sure if you guys have seen this. I warn you in advance - they aren't on a Yammy, and it's a long read - but this is truly a story! http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=877576&highlight=Walkabout+Russia To hopefully tantalise you further, page 9 details where their bike falls over a cliff, but amazingly this doesn't end their trip.

hello all, im in australia but someone on here might be able to help,i have recently aquired 2 yamaha 100cc twostroke bikes both in rather sad states of repair ,i recocnised the style from when i was a kid to be yb100s. but the frame number starts with L2 then numbers both the engine numbers match the frames i think they are maybe 60s bikes and not 70/80s of which i remember they are pretty much in pieces so i will post some picks when i put one together and see if it goes ,compression is good so should go any pdf workshop manuals knocking about for these things ? any help will be apreciated, also to aussie members here there is no copliance plate on either bike and n…

Hey all. This is going to sound like such a strange question to say the least, so bare with me if I sound totally boneidol Do you think a YBR can be driven up a couple of shallow stairs? The reason I'm asking this is because I have no garage or diveway, so I need to keep the bike at the side of my house. Once it's through the gate, I haven't got a problem. But.. My side of the street is raised up above the road slightly (I tried to upload a picture from google street view but I can't get it to work). There is a small grassy slope, and then 2 steps from the road in front of everyone's gate. The steps are a few inches in height each, there are 2 steps and it's about 3…

  8. Thanks to this forum and its members, I recently got to know that my '79/'80 DT175 was a DT175F and not a DT175MX since the frame and engine didn't not carry the 2A7-XXXXXX code. And btw mine has got a monoshock rear suspension. I would like to know the difference between the MX & the F, and how can I tell if mine has got CDI or magneto suspension? Wasn't sure if I should post this topic here, workshop or classics section, so barely with me until I get used to feeling like home Thanks in advance!

Think I'll be adding this bike to the top of my list. The 2014 MT-09 Street Rally looks pretty good too but I don't think I'm ready for it just yet .

  11. Hello guys, recently I have purchased a 1980 Yamaha DT175. So I wanted everything to be legit interms of maintaince and ownership so I downloaded the owners manual. As I was reading through I reached the page that mentioned the 'Machine Identification'. So since I'm pretty sure my bike is a DT175, the manual says to check the serial which is stamped on the right hand side of the headstock assembly which is also the same number on the engine. So if its a DT175 it should start with 2A7-XXXXXX and if its a DT125 it starts with 2A6-XXXXXX. So I went and checked my bike for the codes. Neither the frame nor the engine showed a code close to what is listed in the manual. …

So, I was given some advice to pick up a copy of "Twist of the Wrist II" - I have to say, it's one of the most informative and inspiring books about riding I've ever read! The way the book is written really speaks to you...it makes you go "oh shit, THAT'S WHY!!!" a lot...or at least, it did for me. I personally can't wait until springtime to try out all of the new techniques I've learned, like pivot steering (using your body as active suspension), keeping your arms bent (for more control), giving smooth and constant increasing throttle through a turn (for faster and safer turns), giving throttle in a turn as soon as possible (to transfer weight to the back tire for more…

Hi everyone. I recently got my first 'proper' bike - YBR 125 2007. Excellent bike, I have to say! That is.. untill you want to ride at night, at which point it becomes the scariest ride of your life. The headlight is very poor, and for any visability you have to ride using dipped beam all the time. Anyway, I've just bought a halogen upgrade bulb, hopefully will make SOME improvement. I want to know whether I will need to remove all the front fairings ( I have the fully faired model, with the square headlight), or whether there is an easier way to change the bulb. Also, how would I adjust the angle of the main beam, as currently it seems to shoot hgih up into th…

Ok would like to pick your brains please, as some of you know I have just got myself an FJ1200 which to say the least has been a bit neglected, every nut bolt and fixing is as rotten as a carrot and generally rusty and crusty, don't think it has been cleaned in the 20 years the PO has had it. What I need to ask is what type of paint should I use on the frame, I'm just about to take the engine out and refurb it and that leaves me with the chance to get the frame painted but not really sure which way to go with it, I repainted the XJ a few years ago but that was a bit time consuming actually about 6 weeks work and the thought of another 28 layers of paint makes me think it'…

Won a bike on ebay. should be going to pick it up this weekend! Unfortunately not a yammy, AGAIN I love big singles, and kick starters (it would seem) So the bike is a 1990 Suzuki DR 650 RS. more of an adventure looking bike then the usual DR650. Main reason for another bike, is just the thought of taking my husky out on the gritted roads makes me want to cry, as does thinking about riding it a very far distance. Hopefully this should be just the ticket. What do you lot think? YES i know, it looks rather dated, but i'm not trying to look cool for the other bikers lol. i'll let the power rangers do their thing, and the big 12…

  17. Got such a sweet deal on a bunch of parts for the FZ today! Kid was super nice, he got hit off his and didnt' want to risk putting it back on the road with a bent frame, so he parted it out, along with his other parts bike...so I got: 2 x Complete engines (one with full wiring harness including ignition key lock) - they both have their issues, but between the two there are tonnes of parts 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust with an aftermarket muffler of some type ( pipes from an XJ maybe? FZ has a 4 into 1 ) Ignition controller Almost brand new chain Gauge cluster Entire body fairing set (one damaged) Front brake system Two handlebar signal switch clusters Almost new intersta…

Been running my new engine in now strictly adhering the manufacturers instructions. It basically says only use a third of the throttle for the first 300 miles then increase to half a throttle until you reach 500 miles after which you can ride as normal. I have been reading online about different methods and it comes down to the 'ride it like you stole it' method, which means ride it as you normally would (in my case) or the recommended by the manufacturers 'nice and easy' don't accelerate hard or use more than a third/half of the throttle. I am now up to 300 miles and have had enough of pretending to be a Honda Melody. I'm just going to ride my bike as normal. Accord…
