About twenty years ago coming back from Clevedon in Somerset on the M5 Northbound after watching our local football team play away to Clevedon with my son on the back of my Divvy 600 he decided to fall asleep going across the Avonmouth bridge in Bristol. My mistake was to shout his name and ask him if he was OK. What I should have done was to pull into the emergency lane and woke him up. But since that experience I've learned that is a common occurrence. (frightening) But the most frightening time was coming back from Poole in Dorset again watching our local team play and as luck had it I entered a 40mph speed limit just before Warminster on the A350 and he decided to f…

  7. Hi all. I wanted to replace the locking cap on my tank. I've got a replacement already - looks fine. I can see the old and the new is fixed using what looks like a single bolt. I have to ask before I undo the old one - does the tank have a threaded hole or should I be trying to catch a nut that might drop off inside the tank. Hoping it's a threaded hole for obvious reasons. Thanks

  9. Started by rusty bolts,

To wind it back, the rear timing sprocket sheared the key and timing slipped and bent both front and rear cylinder valves. Replaced the heads and tried to set the timing from the service manual. after 4 days of failure i sent to a mechanic to do. Well he returned the bike 2 days and $600 later and it stated right away with very strong sounding engine, i took it out several days later and it started first crack, put it in gear and took off strong but once i got up to 20 mph it was double beating and shaking and un ride-able. I opened her up and it seemed the front cylinder was timed perfect to the marks but the rear was off by a few links so i pulled it lined it…

Hi, So Im new, but I have a question for anyone who could help. My Box Eye Fazer has bad lights, a common problem. I want to swap the fairing for a standard headlight from an MT07 or similar, but can't see how the light attaches to the forks/steering and all the dealers are shut. Any one done this mod ?

I need to replace the original tyres on my YS since they are scary in the wet. The problem is the tyre sizes. I can not get 100/80-18 tyres from a good brand. Michelin used to produce the city pro but when I emailed them I was told it is out of production with no intention to produce. The only choice left is a different size. 100/90-18 or 110/80-18. The rim and bike can take both sizes but both have an additional 10mm in tyre wall height. What do you suggest?

Just came down from a shower, put in my head phones and resumed my Deezer favourites and first to come up was "the logical song" by Supertramp then followed by "black betty" by Ram Jam, now listening to "riders on the storm" by the doors. 60's bliss. Next up is "spirit in the sky" by, any guesses? Mike.

Hi guys, I have a Yamaha XJ6N 2009. I changed the OEM exhaust. Now I need to eliminate the oxygen sensor. Can someone help me? I have 4 wires. 2 white, 1 black and 1 gray. I think it's necessary to connect a 330ohm resistor between the black and the gray wire. And another 1Mohm resistor between the two whites. Or is only a 330ohms resistance between the black and gray wire enough? Thank you for your help.

My dad was a despatch rider during the 2nd World War. I have a couple of photos of him with his bike (I'd like to identify the bike one day and maybe get one (probably can't afford it)). So I heard a few of his war stories centered around his riding. Which always stayed with me... Then, years later, I came across the Yamaha TY80 https://www.classicsuperbikes.co.uk/catalogue/Bikes-for-sale/Yamaha-TY80.html This is the first bike I ever rode, back in... Errr... Let's say late 70s... Possibly early 80s... Probably... My little cousin had it, being slightly older, I was allowed to take him down to the beach with it and a spare can of p…

I intend to paint my engine soon after I've done all the necessary prep, but just wondering if anybody who's done the same has any recommendations for paints? Obviously gonna need some high temperature primer which was easy to find, but for the engine paint there seems to be so many different types.

I know it's quiet on here now but the people I'm asking will still be popping in. As title. As father time and a mispent youth catch up I want to reduce the stress on my wrists and reducing the physical twist on the throttle would be a big help. There is everything from 40 quid specials to gold plated 500 quid tat for the posurs. There are a few in the 100 to 150 quid range that have an ajustable ratio that seems like a good idea. Anybody used something like this.

  18. Hi, Looking for some knowledge on my Maj. 250's exhaust hanger main bush (through which the rear wheel spindle passes). For recent MoT (new rear tyre) I removed tailpipe and hanger, and then noticed that the bush had quite a bit of movement / play where the rear spindle goes through, - links below to vids I put on Youtube. Both sides move against the rubber, - the fixed metal bush, and the removal one on the other face. Simple question - anyone know if it's designed to have some movement, or if it's just worn out? Thanks! https://youtu.be/y4GF1Fb5BHw https://youtu.be/EOB1UmcfPkk

I have a custom Yamaha XS750 that has no labels for the warning lights. Currently the middle red one is on (and stays on when engine running) and I have read in a few places that this could mean oil OR brake light issues. I have only seen this in relation to earlier models though, can anyone confirm it is the same for the 1980? Thanks
