Hi all, I have mentioned before that i am working on a 1978 Yamaha xs400. I have done everything i could to get this motorcycle running but to no avail. I have decided that i am going to tear it all down and rebuild it from scratch. Before i get started i would like to ask a question that has been on my mind and would appreciate any responses. First of all I am planning to rebuild the engine. This motorcycle has only a kickstarter so i was wondering if it is possible to add an electric starter to it and would anyone have a manual to show me how to add one? If it is not possible to add one, could i buy a whole engine that comes with an electric start for this cycle and…

Been having few starter motor issues recently. While an auto-spark friend tries to repair my starter, I phoned my local Honda agent to price a replacement. I nearly choked when I was quoted £615+vat = £738 !!! Needless to say I passed. That's a mental price.

HI Guys I am getting there as regards to the learning curve I have found myself in. I've completely cleared the bike of Exmoor mud now I found a huge clump of it in the air box and on filter too I've drained & cleaned the oil reservoir cleaned carb and dried all the water out of the oil pump housing. I noticed on a previous post that its easy to bleed the oil pump is it the obvious screw head that's at the front to the top left? Also i've bought a new ignition barrel/switch with 9 connectors (2 Boxes) I can only find 2 wires connected to a normal spade switch Does this sound like a rewire job? Hope someone can give guidance. Cheers Geo I will post photos …

Hi All, I bought my 99 Fazer FZS 600 about a week ago and will be commuting about 30 miles daily on it - both dry & wet weather. I'm getting her serviced and suspect new tyres are needed due to tread wear. Any suggestions about what I should go for as I'm totally ignorant in this area. I'm also married with 4 hampsters so anything costing more than the price of a kidney is a non starter Cheers .

As we're all approaching wooly long-john season and another cold winter, I was just wondering what tips anyone has for keeping their bikes protected from the elements overnight ? My bike sits on the driveway and sadly I don't have a garage (yet) & will have to make do with the driveway for at least this winter. Just worried that the ol' bike covers won't do the trick. Any help (as always) would be much appreciated.

HI, I'm not too technically minded so hopefully I can find someone here who would be able to offer some advice. My main headlamp doesn't work (dipped or head). Although the blue head-beam indicator is permanently on and the bulb appears fine (having checked the little element), only the secondary bulb seems to be work. I got it to work briefly by tightening it but after a few 'tightenings', it appears, now, to have died. If I can save myself the $$ Ill try and fix it myself, so would be very grateful for any suggestions.... I thought it might have been a fuse (as a car) but I doubt my little YBR has a fuse for the head beam..... Thanks a million

Couple of months ago, got on my bike one morning, and none of my lights were working.... I had ridden home the night before and didnt have any problems, no flickering, not excessively bright. buzzed out wiring loom... no shorts, put the loom back in.... battery shorted and power AND earth cables melted. buzzed out loom on bike last night... all three wires leading to the headlight are earthing out with the bike switched on and not running. Regulator/rectifier works fine. bike runs fine... having to ride wit battery not connected to avoid the shorting Unsure what to make of this, bit of a noob at electrical stuff and crap at troubleshooting, tried all I can t…
