Thought this part number decoder might be useful: Part Number in the format XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number) all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on. XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX The middle five digits are the Basic Code number and indicates the actual part, i.e. 11631 = piston; 11311 = cylinder, etc. "W" substituted in the first position of this five-digit group (000-W0000-00-00) indicates a factory assembled kit which differs in content from the original assembly used in production (i.e. 2M0-W0046-00-00 – Rear Break Pad @$$’y)…

Hi, I am a newbie member to the YOC with a recently aquired 1991 XJ900F. When I got the bike the speedo dial was very faded and the petrol gauge plastic cover had a crack in it so I bought a good used instrument set from an eBay seller. Rather than replace the complete speedometer unit which would of course have given an incorrect odometer reading I decided to take off just the needle to remove the faded dial, marking the back of the instrument as best I could to give the same MPH reading. Now I seem to be going a bit faster than the speedo suggests; could someone with the same bike check exactly what MPH they have in top gear for any given RPM? My first question…

Hi all Just thought i would put up a post and let you all know that i have pasted the 1000 mile mark on my YBR125. The "Beast" as the lads at work call it is going strong and it hardly feels like 5 mins since i picked my new shine bike up and hoped and clunked home for the first time. Blitz

Hi all, Been posting on here for a while (mostly re my piece of rubbish SR125 that has now soldiered on dragging my 18 stone bulk over 30,000 miles!). As some of you may know, when I was 17 I had my full bike course booked when a week before I got knocked off by a van and missed it! After getting over that I ended up buying a car and spending my money on drink etc until I bought my SR125 a 2 years ago (I'm still only 21!) I have now booked my DAS which is great news If things all go well I shall be fully licenced around 3pm on the 3rd December and I have never ever been so excited as getting my licence has been something I've wanted to do since I …

  7. Started by NE0,

With quite a number of us keeping 'older bikes' on the road, I was just wondering what does everyone keep in stock in their shed/workshop/under the bed! I've got a lot of bulbs and a spare clutch cable, a spare set of indicator lenses for my DT and I keep a number of oil filters for my 400/4 with a spare throttle cable but thats about it. I know that there are many spares available on ebay and the like, but in a few years time it might not be the same. If i keep my MX for another 8 years it will be 40 yrs old. Buying and keeping a spare set of seals might not be such a good idea as over time the rubber will harden and perhaps start to perish and all the time th…

I am planning to put a different engine in another frame. Is this just a straight forward logbook change ? The engine is a different one to the one that was originally used in the frame but it is still a Yamaha engine Yamaha frame configuration. Has anyone had any dealings of this sort of things before ? I know all the dodges to get a Triton registered but have never done this type of thing before so any info would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.

Hiya all.... For fear of asking a silly question, it is a Friday after all so will ask it any ways... I'm an XT125 owner (nearly)..... which means i've now managed to rebuild my box of bits into something that resembles an XT and the machine burst into life last weekend when power was applied....so now its a case of fitting the last few bits.... one of which is the chain/sprokets... I ordered up a chain set and when it arrived i noticed it is a continuous chain with a soft link.... my question is, not wishing to now go to the expense of a slitting tool, is it possible to replace the soft link with a split link and get a bike garage to split the chain for me so i …

  15. I currently obtained a 1977 Yamaha Chappy lb80 from my dad. it was sitting there for a long time and does not currently run. i took it to the shop this morning to have them get it running again. my question is this. after i get it back, is there anything that i can do get more power out of it? obviously keep a clean filter in it, but is there anything else that i can do besides boring out the cyliders? thank you in advance!!! sincerely, happy_chappy_owner p.s. I know these machines were not made for a lot of speed, but i would like to get a little extra "oomph" so to speak as i am right at 200 pounds.

On the Newbies' forum, I have been told that if I increase the size of the front sprocket on a 125i YBR it is unlikely to have any effect as the bike probably won't reach a high enough rpm - many thanks for that information. Currently, the bike reaches about 8000rpm, which (according to "Gearing Commander") means a top speed of about 60mph. In reality although I have made it to the mid to high sixties (GPS), in general the bike runs at about 55 to 60mph. My problem is that at those speeds you become prey for vans or small lorries. I find that on dual carriageways, I find myself catching up with them, but as I attempt to overtake I am struggling to do so. I know th…

Hi, I got a woodruff key today, so I think the alternator is all sorted. I tried wiring up one of the CDI's I have but I can't get a spark, is it possible to wire it up without going through the ignition/ kill switch or does it need bypassing some way? So basically I've got four wires from the CDI, two that go to the alternator and an orange one that goes to the ignition coil. What should I do with the remaining wire that would normally go to the main switch on the handlebars, should i be able to get a spark without this last wire? Of course the CDI might be knackered, can these be tested in any way? As I have a couple of them and I don't know if its this that;s not worki…
