The headlight on my 1972 G7S was burned out when I bought it. It's a sealed beam lamp and the part is no longer available. A guy at NW Vintage Cycle Parts said people are using the headlight from a 1968 YG5T. My original headlight is a 6V/15W and the replacement is a 12V/25W. Is that going to cause problems? Also, when I checked my battery I found a clear tube in the battery compartment. The tube is not hooked up to anything. It was just threaded through the compartment. I haven't found any mention of it in either the rider's manual or the Clymer manual. Does anyone here know what it might be? Thanks!

I've just brought a 2001 yamaha DT125r. the guy i brought it from has said he's been told by a mechanic that the crank seals have gone and need replacing, runs alright, abit noisy but thinking that might be due to holes in the exhaust, a freinds managed to get a clean one for me so going to fit that when it arives. apparently it hasnt long had a full engine re build, ive got some pictures showing this so unsure why he's saying this. is there any way of checking this without taking too much of the engine appart?

Hi all Tried to replace the rear light unit, only the two bolts hoding it to rear mudguard have seized. Have you any tips for me to remove the old, make-do light? I'll try to preserve it and sell it on. I thought about using a 'cutting' file - think it would take ages but how do I protect the mudguard? Thanks in anticipation. I.L.

Hello all.. I'm new here. There is an 82 Virago 500 sitting in the gargae thats been there about 12 years.. My parrents HAD been driving since it was new.. At some point in time the thing started losing spark.. My dad said the coils were bad.. (geting hot and shorting out) I end up buying it a couple days ago... I checked my spark.. And it appears I am only getting spark randomly on the front cylinder.. Not an overhreating coil.. It fires.. Then it doesn't.. So I decided to swap the wires that run to the coils.. And instantly the front jug was fixed and the rear starting missing.. So... It's obviously gotta be something ELSE in the system.. Like a pickup in the mot…

HI all, Now first of all I AM NOT offering cheap insurance so read on and find out why you should be careful of those that do! I am a LOT older than some of you and as such when working on the bike in the garage I listen to the wireless (radio to you youngsters) and today I heard that there is a new scam out there young riders should be aware of, if you look for cheap insurance and find a cracking deal be aware that some scum bags are offering really low rates for young driver/riders who are in fact NOT registered with the insurance bureau (THE MIB) that's not men in black but "Members of the Insurance Bureau", it's really important that you check that your broker/de…

Just got myself a shiny new diversion 600F. Very pleased with it. I have always had a Haynes style manual for all of my bikes, but can't find similar one, assume that is because it is too new. Anyone know of a similar one.

Does anyone know how I can get points for a 1981 yamaha xs 400 (and potentially an advance assembly and capacitor too?). Also, I am looking at a bike now, is there anything in particular that tends to be problematic with this bike that I should look out for?

I know I already posted a thread about this, but this time I want to explain the situation in more detail to enable you all to understand just exactly what has happened. It started when my bike started making a crunching noise (I posted a thread on here for advice) initially I thought it was the gear box but after looking at my machine I realised it was the chain. The chain was extremely slack so I tightened it. Whilst doing this I noticed that they were two teeth missing from the rear sprocket. I looked on eBay and found a brand new chain and sprocket set for £30 which I bought, I thought this was really cheap. A day after I had sorted the chain out, all of a sudde…

Hi everyone, i have a bit of a strange request for you today... does anyone have a sidecar outfit i could borrow for a day or two? i am just out of my 2 year 33bhp restriction period so it doesnt matter exactly what it is... reason being future Mrs Foamy wants to go to her prom on the back of one of my bikes but that just isn't practical when wearing a dress (so she tells me, i dont tend to wear dresses...), so if anyone has a jawa/ural/mz/whatever else with a sidecar that they would lend me the use of for a couple of days i would be forever gratefull, payment would be provided ofc. please let me know peeps, i will be your tame foamy Love foameh x

I have just bought a Yamaha XT 125 X and while I love it, I now want a two stroke sports bike. I want a two stroke simply because they are a lot faster. Before I bought my XT I wanted an Aprilia RS but couldn't find one local to me, so settled for my XT. I am looking to spend about £1000 - £1500, I was looking at TZR's which I must admit look the business. What would you suggest?

Yep this is how I like to get my projects. It's the potential I see in these basket cases. There's nothing like bringing something like this back to it's former glory. This being Ireland, the bike could be on the road in this state. Just needs insurance and Tax and away you go. Not MOT or Roadworthyness test required for bikes. Crazy, I know. I restore them to get them to MOT standard. I'm a Bristolian living here for over 25 years. I seen worse and seen lads riding worse. Anyway the resto will take a while, most of the work it needs is cosmetic. I'll be starting on it soon. Comments always welcome Thanks for looking

I have found this web-site http://cvieth.bplaced.net/motorrad_exupdummy.html in German (i speak fluent German) of a private Yamaha rider- boffin who makes servo dummies from home. Appears to be an electronics genius. I have already used his headlight rewire info to gain brighness both on low and high beam, simple, cheap and effective and am waiting for a date for the servo dummy because the chip boards he uses are out of stock at the moment. The servo dummy is going to cost aroung 25 Euro including postage. Anyone else interrested?
