Just got a brand spanking new YZF-R125 and now trawling through the insurance ocean for a decent quote. Anybody got any recommendations for a 20 year old with his first bike. I've had some ridiculous quotes but figured I should get some sound feedback on this forum. Thanks Chrisbob

  4. Hey guys - if you've got a loose gear level, kick start etc do yourself a huge favour and tighten it up correctly before you ride again. If you strip a spline on an engine/gearbox shaft get ready for a nasty ££ surprise and a load of agro . Some of you may have seen or even bought a bike where the problem has been 'fixed'/bodged' by welding the lever to the shaft - the problem then gets worse when there's an engine casing that needs to come off. My old TY had a loose gearlever because it couldn't be tightened up anymore as the pinch gap the alan screw tightens had fully closed. This is an aftermarket lever - not uncommon on off road bikes as its one of the…

Just seen a BEAUTIFUL bike and thought id share, as I cant afford it anyway. Went to a little breakers in Herne Bay, and he has a Virago 750 that hes restored, he showed me pics of the state it was in when it came in, and hes done an amazing job. If anyone is down that way, worth a look. Just to make clear, this is not a selling post, I have nothing to do with the sale or the seller - was just too good not to share!

Right i have been thinking about getting shot of Betty and building a complete one off bobber thing by getting a crashed bike then getting a frame made and all that stuff, so i have found a guy up in Scotland who builds frames and i have found this site with loads of bikes: http://www.moto-brea...c/info.php?p=11 So what one do you guys think has the best engine to build this monster and also what do you guys know about the legal side of things of getting it on the road? as what im doing must come under say a "KIT CAR" type thingy? I basically wanna go for a low drag bike/street fighter/ angry bobber type monster, some thing like what the munsters or Franken…

I am trying to find a new engine for my 1986 XT 600 Tenere. Have found one on ebay out of a 1997 XT600e. Does anyone know if this later model engine will fit?

  9. Some of you guys know that I recently bought an old (but willing - bit like me) ty175. Having got it home (after a 10 hour round trip) and got it started (after reconnecting a wire that had pulled off the coil under the tank in transit) it seemed to be running a bit hot - just a hunch having had loads of air cooled two strokes in the past and not having the benefit of a temp guage! Then I remembered a comment that the seller made - i.e. he always put an eggcup full of oil in the petrol tank when he filled up - a ty175 only holds 4 litre of fuel from absolute empty. Adding extra lubricant may seem like a good idea but apparently can cause the engine to run hot and…

Here's a real curved ball guys - Just aquired a lovely 1981 TY175 with a daytime MOT and no lights. Flippin insurance companies want crazy money to insure it - i.e. more than a Z750 I've just sold. I've also got an RSV4 Aprilia Tuono but MCE won't insure the TY under a multibike policy for an array of totally irrational reasons. The various companies also tell me that I can't use my no claims discount on more than one insurance policy - Errrr, hang on a minute, I don't think its possible to ride 2 bikes at the same time DOH. Also insurance is about risk so if you've got no claims discount it should mean that the discount applies to however many policies you have!…

  13. Hi Guys, I've got a 31 year old TY175 which runs on mineral two stroke oil on the standard autolube system - the book says its about a 30:1 mix ratio. Does anyone know if I can swap over to fully synthetic oil on a leaner mix without harming the engine? I believe the oil/petrol ratio is adjusted by re shimming the pump? Cheers, Jim. p.s. will update my profile this weekend.

Hi all, I'm after some general opinions ref riding in town / slow moving traffic and bikers overtaking other bikers. On my daily commute to & from work, if I'm following traffic with no room to filter or overtake (usually in a single lane), I often get a rider either coming to my side and blocking my ability to manoeuvre or trying to get a little ahead of me. If there is space ahead, I have no problem 'yielding' to a bike willing to go faster then I am but in slow moving traffic isn't there some rule or etiquette? I did my CBT freakin decades ago and remember being told the bike in front has priority as, in general, you (as the rider behind) has a wider vie…

  20. I did a search through the forum, nobody seems to have asked this question before, or if they did, they put it in title with a cryptic heading like "help" or "question" or "need help" that sort of thing, I must confess these simple titles get my goat up!!! why can't they be more concise? Anyway back to the question in hand......... I'm just in the process of doing an engine rebulid on my Honda CB400/4 , I did the DTMX 175 last year!! The base gasket has leaked oil for some years, in fact shortly after i rebuilt the engine a few years ago it started...but recently its got worse and enoughs enough! i decided its time to fix it, so engine out and replace the seals and…
