    Sorry mate, when you said "rd250 , or even the 350 may be under" I assumed you were talking about the LCs. I thought the air cooleds were 250 and 400s. I agree with the Brit option tho, I am going to get him on the insurance for my Speed Twin (28bhp) but will keep looking at other options. Thinking xt/sr500 but its up to him

    Having just been quoted over £2k for my son to get insurance on a restricted bike, I am looking to pick him up something a bit smaller, within the 33bhp limit. He is into the cruiser style so looking at an xvs400 or summit similar. From the collective experience of the board, what is available to him. What bhp is a 535 Virago or the xv650. Any advice, help, ridicule welcomed.
  4. I was down at the local(ish) VOSA depot to get my auld Triumph inspected and get rid of the Q plate. I got talking to the bloke and he was saying that the amount of ringers folk have bought off gumtree has soared over the last couple of years. The poor cnuts dont realise it until they turn up for an inspection to get a v5. So whatever you decide to do make sure you check the bike over thoroughly before handing over your hard earned cash. Oh and the Q plate is no more, the bike now has the appropriate age related number plate attached.

  8. Alright mate, welcome to the forum. Once you get the other engine in, pick up a manual and set about the siezed engine. You cant beat hands on experience

    Yea Alloy rims brakes relined new wheel bearings reground crank new main bearings new big ends morgo oil pump hi-output alternator stainless fork sliders and a primary belt drive Bad points one silencer is badly corroded tank needs a respray (just spoke with my mate, so thats sorted) General recommissioning, it has not been on the road for 5 years so some oil and grease and away I go (hopefully)

    Yea, upgraded to 12v and Boyer E/Ignition fitted. The timing casing has been changed to accept the sender unit and the dissy hole in the crankcase has been blanked off.

    The bloke says it is and it would just need a battery. He says he fired it up last week and it started 2nd kick. I have turned the engine over, and rigged up a battery to check for a spark, but dont want to start it until I give it an oil and filter change, as well as getting the carb cleaned out in an ultrasonic bath. The bike is on a Q plate and was registered in 1984 by the guy I bought it off. He says it was easier then, to get the Q than an age related plate. I have sent pics of the bike, as well as the engine and frame number to the Owners club who will send me a dating certificate which I will present to the DVLA in Glasgow and (hopefully) get issued with an age related plate.

    I owned an 1100 in standard trim. Great big beast. The only negative was the handling, it appears 70s frames were made of rubber (at least thats what it felt like), but thats not an issue if your making a new frame. My mate had a 650, I thought it was a great wee bike and I loved getting a shot of it.

    As folk know, as much as I love my Yams my true passion is auld Brit bikes and Triumphs in particular, so today I bought this tis a 1959 Triumph Speedtwin 5ta 500cc. Looking forward to a wee bit of fettling and getting this auld bird back on the road. What do ya think...

    Touching my bike!

    Back when I lived with my parents I was always getting kids crawling over my bike. I got fed up warning them off the roasting hot downpipes (headers, sacha), anyway one day, a kid lets out a scream and leaves some skin on the right hand pipe. I left it there for about a month, as a reminder. It worked, no more kids climbing on my Bonnie

  17. Dunno how fast mine is, xjr1200, but on bringing it up from Englandshire when I bought it a year and a bit ago, I could have lost my licence at least 3 times. Having been used to auld Brit twins I would wind up for some overtaking on the motorway and halfway through the move I had a look at my speed. Well into 3 figures.... This happened a number of times over the following couple of weeks until I got used to the acceleration

  20. If you position yourself in line with the car in fronts offside then there will be no room for the guy to block you in, if however the guy is getting past you then there must have been room for him to filter
