Hi, I am new to this club and have just bought an 81 XS 250 special. The bike runs but needs a few bits. The exhaust is shot and I think the right 2 into 1 is the Motad M24YSE but from pictures I think it originally had twin exhausts can you still get them or should I just go for the motad? The current exhaust is 2 into 1 by JAMA Original and has holes in both the downpipes and silencer. I only have one silencer mountig bracket. The seat is split, can you get a replacement cover? The starter button on the handlebars is missing but works if you stick a screwdriver in the hole. So I need a new button. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Luke

in the manual for my carb's it list's the main jet's @ diff sizes for the LH/RH. when i changed my intake and exaust i changed my jet sizes as well. i went up 1 size on the main's and the pilot jet's . i kept the same size diff on the main's for each carb. the side that has a smaller size main jet now run's lean . why do the carb's have diff size main jet's . can i use the same size main's on both carb's ?

I have a 1978 xs400 and the starter is not engaging. It spins the sprockets fine but it is not engaging with the engine. However when I use the kick start it turns the engine fine. The kick start is hard to get it to turn over too. I think I will change the oil and see if that helps with kick start. What should I do about the starter?

I have just bought a winter project, 1982 Yamaha sr250, on checking the spark when I press the start button I get an immediate spark then nothing untill I stop pressing the button and then a few seconds later I get a single spark, WEIRD. the starter motor is a little worn/slow, would I be right in thinking there's not enough turn over speed to generate a full spark? I was thinking maybe if I bump it down the road. any help appreciated. Cheers

I have a 1973 MX175 and I believe that I need a new CDI or Magneto; my question is does the replacement part need to be from the same year and model or are there any others that would fit or work? Any expertise would be appreciated...Thanks.

I have recently acquired a 1973 Yamaha MX175, I have no spark, I don't know much about the electrical systems on dirt bikes..What is the best way to troubleshoot the system? and if needed where would be a good place to get cheap replacement components like the magneto and CDI unit? Any help would be appreciated..Cheers!

The tank on my '84 RZ350 developed pinholes from rust in the lowest part of the tank. (It's a common problem.) I tried a sealer kit from KBS Coatings. It sealed the tank initially, but three days later sprang several leaks. I bought a used tank from an '85 RZ which is much more solid than mine was. I want to seal it to prevent rust, but I want a sealer that works. (I'm leaning toward POR-15) I'd like to hear from anyone who has had experience - good or bad - with any brand of tank sealer.

Hi all, I’m new on this site and hopefully I’m posting in the right place. I’ve got a 1980 DT 175MX (although first registered in Feb 1980 the Chassis Number points to it being a 1978 model – 2K4 – I have asked Yamaha UK if there’s a way pf checking this). I’m fitting new indicators for it that I got from Red Rose as there were none, and I wondered if anybody could tell me where to get the black sleeving that the handlebar cables have. I’ve looked on the internet but can’t seem to see exactly what I need. Thanks (I may be featuring more frequently here as I’m about to swap over the top end to temporarily turn it into a 125!!) Paul

Picked up what I thought was a 72 ds7 to restore but finding something peculiar. Oil pump had been removed presumably because of failure. Bike runs nice but previous owner said he's been mixing oil with gas because of lack of oil pump. I figured I'd just find one to install however I notice that the the cylinder design is different from what I've seen on other ds7's and where the carb attaches to the cylinder is different in that there is no place (that I can find) to connect the oil feeder lines to on the block. It's definately not in the usual place as I'm familiar with where it is on a typical setup. Serial numbers of bike and engine match so it doesn't look like anyon…

Help Please... Just rebuilding my DT engine and the oil pipes going to and from the autolube pump are holed and need replacement. These plastic pipes go through the engine case and use two metal 'male to male' connectors to pass through the case before connecting on to the oil tank and carb. I need to remove these two connectors which that are inserted into the engine case to do the job properly...Anyone now how to get them out? I really dont want to mix the oil with each tank of petrol!! Ta Nick

I have a yamaha rt1 360 that lost spark I suspect it's that the points need filing. Does anybody have any idea how to get the flywheel off this thing? is there a cheap way? do i need a puller? where do I get it? also any idea on the flywheel itself is it keyed? I am afraid I will screw up the timing if i mess with it.

Hi all I have nearly completed a resto on my DT175A and need a blinker relay. Its a three wire type but some of the bike wreckers here are saying that I can use an after market 2 pin type because two of the wires going to the original relay are only earth wires and I could join them together if I went with the after market type. It doesn't look right to me on the wiring diagram. Would anyone have any thoughts on this as I can't find the original relay at the moment for a reasonable price. Cheers Sean

Hey guys I am trying to find a 2-1 exhaust system for my 81 xs400, and I heard the mac exhaust quality was not really good. Does anyone know any other brands that I can look into?

Does anyone know where i can get a good performance exhaust system for a 1967 yr-1 350? thanks.

  19. The left spark plug cable on my 81 xs400s is bad and I need a new one. My dad said he's never seen plugs that are threaded on the ends like on my bike, so he said I may have to order them online. I'm headed out in a few hours and I was wondering if I could expect to find plug cables that would fit my bike at a chain auto parts store like Pep-boys or auto zone?

Would there be much difference between a XS400 and XS250 full gasket set? I'm after a set for my XS400 and there is someboby on eBay selling the XS400 for about £40 and the XS250 for £20 (both 1978-81). All the best Caddy
