Hi guys,

I have a YZF-R125

My chain is rusty : (

How did it get like this ?

How do i get rid of it ?

I do lube it with some "Shell" Lube that the dealer gave me, do i need to do this more often ?

Thanks in advance

Give it a good clean with a rag and some petrol or chain cleaner then spray with the correct lubricant.

Rain caused the rust, It happens dont worry!

Repeat after me:

"I will not use petrol to clean my chain because it will destroy the O/X rings"

"I will not use petrol to clean my chain because it will destroy the O/X rings"

Petrol will eat away at the rubber O rings (or X rings) and cause a grease leakage. This will dry out your chain and potentially cause it to snap (to put it simply without going in to great detail).

Taken from the manual, should have done this the other day!

New to this too

Cleaning and lubricating the

drive chain

The drive chain must be cleaned and

lubricated at the intervals specified in

the periodic maintenance and lubrication

chart, otherwise it will quickly wear

out, especially when riding in dusty or

wet areas. Service the drive chain as

follows.

CAUTION:

ECA10581

The drive chain must be lubricated

after washing the motorcycle and

riding in the rain.

1. Clean the drive chain with kerosene

and a small soft brush.

CAUTION:

ECA11120

To prevent damaging the O-rings, do

not clean the drive chain with steam

cleaners, high-pressure washers or

inappropriate solvents.

2. Wipe the drive chain dry.

3. Thoroughly lubricate the drive

chain with a special O-ring chain

lubricant.

CAUTION:

ECA11110

Do not use engine oil or any other lubricants

for the drive chain, as they

may contain substances that could

damage the O-rings.

I've always used WD40 to clean and Castrol chain lube to lube, got 27000 miles out of my R1 chain with out any problem, the only reason I've changed it was due to the front sprocket not looking it's best, every two weeks I give it a quick clean, if you do it regurally it wont take long and the chain will last for a long time. :D

So just spray WD40 on it and rag it clean, then Castrol chain lube afterwards, evenly on the chain? I've yet to lube mine.. heh.

Thats the way i do it, and when cleaning you may as well make sure the chain slack is as it should be, it will help make it last longer as well.
