  1. Your best bet is something like autosol a pretty good polish that will bring your Aluminum parts up like new but there is no quick way I'm afraid. it's elbow grease and sweat that will do it. As for the paint you can't "touch up" powder coat but you can use a good quality auto paint that matches and just paint over the missing chunks.
  2. Hi Mike, it's usually under the seat, looks a bit like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2007-Yamaha-XV650-XV-650-V-Star-Y487-tilt-tip-sensor-unit-angle-switch-BC8/231666865826?hash=item35f06bd6a2:g:sYAAAOSwDNdV067d&vxp=mtr Also look at the kick stand sensor, it might need a clean and grease, if your side stand is loose it can flop up and down causing the switch to think the stand is down cutting the engine. Just a suggestion. The joys of old tech bikes nothing to worry about except oil leaks and ignition timing. Harleys might be old tech but they do get you where you need to be.
  3. Hi Mike, welcome to the YOC. Just a thought but as your bike has been chopped about quite a bit have they repositioned the "tilt crash sensor" if it's been moved that could cause your bike to act odd as it's really sensitive. Wrong position will tell the ECU you've fallen over and cut the fuel off then restart, do you have a fault code list for your bike and where is the display? Just sayin..!
  4. Just a thought but I belong to the N.A.B.D or National association for bikers with disabilities, they hold a rally every year lots of beer large tented area usually a stage or two and LOUD bands. This is the website address if your interested, http://www.nabd.org.uk/ it does cost £30 for the 3 days though. this year it's at Knutsford WA160HJ south of Manchester. Oh and it is in May 11th -13th. Otherwise go to the www.thebikerguide.co.uk they have most of the rallies in the UK listed with info and prices.
  5. As Campaman said check the mounting to see if it's bent or twisted plus the frame where it bolts to the stand. If you really want to sort it try one of these sort of things Fully adjustable and reasonably cheap. Think they are made in China but at only $12 dollars you can buy half a dozen. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/CNC-Motorcycles-Kickstand-Kick-Side-Stand-Motorcycle-Scooter-Street-Standard-For-Land-Rover-BWS/32828575903.html
  6. Hi and welcome to the YOC, most of us are in the same boat mate, just the hardy few who ride through winter with frozen hands and feet.

You do know that the VMAX is a 4 stroke right?
  11. There you go, full carb diagram with scrollable pics and numbers and arrows to where stuff should be. https://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/1979-yamaha-xs750-xs750f-carburetor/o/m147174sch225700 hope that helps..! From what you describe might be numbers 58 and 59.
  12. Sorry mate not sure what your asking here. It's a simple thing to chop off the wires you no longer need or want. Your going to need an ignition source of course but lights are simple on most bikes. Your also going to have to make a blanking plate for the starter motor mount, just to keep the dirt out, other than that it's straight forward. What seems to be the problem?
  13. Hi Shafiq, welcome to the YOC.
  14. Most bikes have an adjustment, usually a couple of screws that either run through the chrome headlight bezel or at the back there can be a knob or some such that moves the beam aim up down or left right. Some foreign bikes are right side specific and you can buy kits for them to convert it to left side riding. Your local bike shop can probably help you there, but they must be fitted correctly and not reduce the output to much. Any generic set of bike masks or converter kits should do the job. Ask your local MOT bike shop for advice on the requirements.
  15. Your not alone mate, we've all been there, I find LOT'S of swearing and throwing tools makes me feel better. PLUS who the fuck hides an allen key socket hole behind a bolt?
  16. Your fuel tap should have something like "OFF" "RES" "FUEL". The fuel only flows when your on the fuel setting normally BUT if you chose RES then it should piss out regardless, your bike needs a vacuum from the engine to draw fuel from the tank to the carbs, you only use RES if your a tit and forget to fill up (been there done that.!) The pipe from num 3 carb is the Vac pipe, you should have a filter somewhere in the fuel line to, might be under the tank? Something like the pics below. Of course you might have none of this as your bike is totally different but that's the usual fittings on a lot of bikes. Hope that helps a bit anyway. Those are just generic pictures yours might be slightly different. Fuel tap And Filter
  17. Yeah me to, as Finnerz said, that is the gorilla method of tightening up bolts.
  18. Ok from what I understand about these things the collar (blue arrow) only sits up to the frame, you have to drive the thing from the other side to remove it. This is the best photo I could fine that shows the pin It might be tapered so that's why the bastard is so difficult to remove. This is the pin Heat is your friend here I think, Don't use a blow torch just an electric paint stripper will do and plenty of WD40 (other makes are available :))
  19. have you read this thread? ( Center stand on correctly YBR125) Posted by another member he had a different problem but it's a good photo of the centre stand and might help if you point out the part your having a problem with.

    Hi

Hi Dan welcome to the YOC.
  21. What seems to be the problem? those number look ok, the engine number should be the same but some bikes do have different numbers on the engine. What does it say in the V5?
  22. HI Dan, pretty sure all the tolerances will be different, no one is that lucky..! If you can't find the exact model manual then just Google it and see if anything out there matches your needs, sometimes you can find separate pages rather than the whole thing on the net. Someone somewhere will have posted about your bike and they will have had the same problem. Found this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-MOTORBIKE-PARTS-LIST-MANUAL-XJ400S-4BP1-JAPANESE-E837012-1-114BP-010J1/152872491691?epid=629461846&hash=item2397e91aab:g:yLoAAOSwTuJYxW6Q on ebay but at £27 a bit steep and it's a parts manual not a service manual. Also found this one BUT it's in Italian so your gunna have to translate it using Google translate, but better than nothing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-YAMAHA-1986-SERVICE-MANUAL-XJ400-500-550/351476248151?hash=item51d59dee57:g:A5MAAOSwN2VZUSBx again it's £35 so not a cheap option. So right after you read this your gunna hopefully do 2 things, one is say "Hello" in the new members section (folks like to know your not a one hit info only wonder) and second look at the adverts I put up, but if I can find those in 3 minutes you might find one even better in time.
