  1. Just seen this and although it is from back in august thought it was worth saying that the 3MA is the reverse cylinder model so very different to the TDR which is the same as the UK TZR250 2MA and rest of the world 1KT model.
  2. This bike takes me back!! I can remember a few "rich" mates having these back in 89 when i was on my RD125LC and I was mighty jealous. I now own that bikes big brother, a red and white TZR250 2MA.
  3. I had no real option but to get a bike when I began an apprenticeship after leaving school at 16. There were no buses or trains that could get me to work easily so i got my first bike, an RD50MX with an autisa 65cc kit - bloody brilliant. Got to 17 and sold it for an RD125LC. Started going on longer trips and enjoyed it all the more for having more power so took my test and bought an RZ250R, Japanese import. A few months later I also passed my car test and bought a MK2 escort so the bike took a back seat for a while. Crashed the car and dused the bike down and realised how much i had missed it and shortly after traded it against a proper hooligan bike, an RG500 in the pepsi colours. Absolutely un-bloody real. Still the best bike I have ever owned. Decided to go for a GSXR1100 but realised within three months it was too quick and i would kill myself so i sold it and that was the end of the bikes for many years. Fast forward to september 2008 and i am getting pissed with my mates at the pub. Having a conversation where we were reminiscing about our lost youth - you know how those conversations go!! I mention I would love another bike but it would have to be a two stroke. My mate says his dad has one (a two stroke). I say I would love an original red and white TZR250. He says this is "exactly" what his dad has and he would sell it to me as he is too old to enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!! I offer a cheeky £450, his dad accepts and i bought it. Totally original bike and I will never sell it. Adore the thing .
  4. I have just worked out that the rebore on my TZR250 now means it is a TZR263, so, based on that is it as fast as the mighty dt125 with the clock wire earthed? I really hope it is as I couldn't cope with being passed at 120 by a dt. I am sure with an extra 13cc my bike must be able to pass the 200mph mark now.
  5. Only reason I ask is that it was my first bike. Was a white one, usual gold wheels and had an Autisa 65cc kit. Was taxed up until march this year. Got fond memories of my first taste of proper freedom. Last time i saw it was when I traded it in at a dealership in Maidstone, Kent for an RD125LC back in 1989, christ, now i feel old . Looked exactly like this:
  6. Both myself and my wife chose platinum. I have a simple band and she has some fancy thing with a few diamonds and a sapphire. She originally chose white gold but within six months it started to go yellow (she knows a lot about jewellery so she managed to get the money back and kept the ring!!) so we had the stones removed and the ring remade in platinum and the stones re-set in exactly the same fashion. Very hard wearing metal apparantly, does dull a little but is very hard to scratch.
  7. Just seen this, what an epic description of riding a two smoke. Your TDR looks bloody stunning. I have the brother to your TDR, I have the TZR250 2MA and friggin love it. Open it up and the power valve spins, opens up and it goes mental. I have only ever owned one four stroke. Have had some proper quick 2Ts, such as a RG500s etc but the little TZR is my ideal bike. Very light, pretty punchy and I still think it looks great. I liked it so much the other day I ran it out of fuel and ended up having to push it for over a mile in 30 degree heat to the nearest fuel station!!!

    My mad mate

Superb, love that, will teach the dickhead some road manners hopefully I have a BMW and I ride a bike. I can guarantee you that I indicate, use my mirrors, and pull to the left to give bikes more room. This is also a true story, a ZXR750 rider pulled up next my car on saturday on the way home from Croydon and gave me the thumbs up (a) because I moved over to give him room ( I think he liked the car.
  9. Check ebay for a replacement CDI, there always seems to be something on there.
  10. Might as well get some electrical contact cleaner and open up all the electrical connector blocks and give them a clean out as well to be sure.
  11. Castrol TTS (think it is now called power). £11 - £12 for a litre of the stuff in halfrauds. Use it in my TZR250, no premix though as it still has a perfectly working oil pump .
  12. Replace the battery and check your earths.
  13. Turn the ignition on, flick the choke on, kick start the engine, give it 30 seconds of warming and then turn off the choke.
  14. I go to the ring a lot (got a bit of an addiction to it ) with my car but have never ridden it (never want to either). Generally the reason for closures is due to fluid spills. Alot of the regulars with DRTs (Dedicated Ring Toys) just run water in the cooling system so if they get a leak then it won't compromise a bikers safety as much. Antifreeze on the track is lethal. Most track closures are due to bikes going down and a good proportion of the time the accident can be attributed to a fluid spill.

    borked tzr

What is the mileage, certainly appears that the plug is fouling with oil. Could be rebuild time.
  16. I am struggling to choose between the RD350 ypvs f2 or the tzr250 2ma. I think I will give the nod to the tzr purely on the basis I own one and have wanted one since they very first came out in around 85. Both one hell of a bike and more importantly - 2 strokes . Can't believe the attention the tzr gets, thumbs up, people just wanting to talk and reminisce, been offered a few quid for it as well on more than one occassion .
  17. Another one saved, so nice .
  18. Paul, 37 and love two strokes, fix computers for a living - and no, not for PC World but a company called Sun Microsystems, love my cars as much as bikes and do a good few trips to the Nurburgring a year to give the car a sound talking to . Got two young sons and a VERY understanding wife. Been riding since 16 on an RD50 then an RD125LC. Ended up with an RG500 - proper bloody animal that was but sold it for a GSXR1100. Sold that before I killed myself and after a (longish) break find myself in posession of a mint TZR250 2MA. Adore the bike, don't want anything else - had my fill of big power bikes, other than another RG500, prefer the lightness and nippyness of the small two strokes. The TZR will never be sold but will get lots of riding.
  19. If you don't mind tinkering around with 2 strokes then a TZR250 2MA will be spot on. Reliablity is very good and they are simple to work on but still perform well. I have had loads of 2 strokes including the rocketship RG500 and also 4 strokes like the GSXR1100 but the TZR250 has something about it, quick enough to keep me interested and good handling with light weight make it fun. Restricting it to 33hp will be cheap and the bike won't suffer much for it. I love my TZR250 and can't see me ever selling it.

    RD 350 LC

Cracking bikes the 350LCs. Took my tzr250 out for a blast today and saw a mars bar 350LC .
  21. http://www.yamaha-rd.com/ seems to have very nice F2s come up for sale reasonably regular. Also ebay never seems to be without one or two F2s.
  22. My 250 two smoke is on its original bores and pistons/rings at 19000 miles and is running very strongly. Runs really well after a good thrash. Just let the bike warm up and be gentle with it until it is up to temp and it will be fun. Make sure you also use a decent quality two stroke oil. I use castrol tts.

    Fekkin Kids!

You have 100% done the right thing. Bullies love attention, the bastards thrive on it. This little cretin obviously cannot see the decent kids getting the attention by turning up in a limo so has bullied her way in. Thing is, your daughter will obviously be the cool kid that other kids talk about by turning up on the trike. Just tell her to be careful incase the bully becomes jealous and vents her frustration on your daughter . Bullies, I feckin hate the little sods .

    1991 TZR 125

Please keep adding to this thread as you go along. Love reading stuff like this .
  25. If only I wasn't working I would have come along. Live in medway in between halling and rochester). You would have been high on 2stroke fumes though!!
