Hello all, my first time in the YOC forum, in fact my first time in any forum. The last time I rode a bike was about 10 years before the internet had been invented and 20 years before in smartphones. My last bike was a very unreliable GS550 custom. Possibly the worst electrics on a Japanese bike. Before that was a GT500 rattling rice burner - I can't believe they are worth so much money now. I also had an XS500 8 valve for a while, a CB550K4 and my favourite a CB350K4. I decided to buy something small and sedate as I wanted to not be too scared after all this time and in my declining years. How was I supposed to know someone had missed a 0 off the cubic c…

Hello ! I'm about to take ownership of my first Yamaha for 20 years - since passing my test on a 1988 TZR 125 (in Camel F1 colours for those of you that can remember that far back !)...in 1995. The 'new' Yamaha is a 2012 X Max 250. Bought for my 50 mile round trip commute to work. I've got an old VFR800 at the moment - but it has too much power, not enough storage and a heavy clutch for the filtering I need to do every day. I've had a Burgman 400 in the past which was a bit cumbersome and heavy - so I'm hoping the X Max should be a bit of a revelation ! Keep safe if you're riding at this time of year - I wimped out on the bike this morning - bike + slush does not …

Hi my name is Richard and I recently acquired a 1987 Yamaha SRX 250 that needs some love. While I'm not new to restoring old vehicles, this is my first project bike. My last project was a supercharged 1988 Toyota MR2 which was my childhood dream car. But back to my bike, I owned an SRX250 in college in 1989 but suffered a severe accident that would keep me off bikes until last year when I bought a KTM RC390. I've always been on the lookout for an SRX250 purely for sentimental reasons and when I came upon one recently that was in fair shape, I jumped at the chance. My plan is to restore it as best as possible with all available parts that I've sourced from eBay and Pa…

Hey all, So after years of wanting to ride, I've finally gone and bought my first bike. A red 2009 Yamaha YBR-125. Having done my CBT a little over 12 months ago, time was ticking down until I'd have to either do my full license or redo the CBT. So I decided I'd pull my finger out, get on the road, and build up my experience in order to prepare for the full license test I aim to take in the next 6 months. The bike is in great condition, however I did snap the gear shifter off due to wearing big thick military boots and being a little too heavy-footed. I've already bought a replacement and I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty this evening and repla…

I've recently bought a Neos4, so it's only 50cc and I'm limited to 30mph. But I do get 129mpg. Can anyone tell me if the speedometer is accurate? I'm hitting 34mph, but is the speedo set deliberately to read high, am I only doing 30mph when it says 34mph? Thanks Trev.
