  1. I think its 10 as that is the figure other bikes seem to have and I don't have a manual and as the bike is so rare I am struggling to find the correct figures. So I stopped to find out before I over or under tighten them
  2. Sorry if this is somewhere else but I am trying to refit the camshafts on my xj700 maxim and worried about the torque setting for the camshaft bolts(are they called journals?) I think its 10nm
  3. maybe, its definitely a cruiser to look at, underneath its very similar to a xj900, but nothing actually matches

    xj700maxim

are there any users here who own an xj700 maxim, they are few and far between, its amazing how many people argue with me its not what i say it is, usually spouting off what they know it is/was built from even though they have never seen one before! i'm interested in what other people do with theirs, tips about looking after them that sort of thing.
  5. Nice job. I had one of these ages ago and it was strangly likable. Definiately a living room ornament!
  6. I have a 700 maxim, not quite the same i know, but my clutch slips the same, it doesnt always do it though so its hard to tell if its worn or just to much power but think i will wait until its really bad before changing it.
  7. I had an 80cc townmate once and apparently it was well sort after but i didnt like. Swopped it for a gpz305, still not sure who got the better deal....
  8. Hahhahahahaha. As in the top one hundred theories.... Never say someone is useless, they can always be used as a bad example!
  9. It appears to be the connector the fuel line attaches to the carb, what a bummer man

    leaky carbs

Had to stop using my xj700 maxim to commute until i have time to look at it, everytime i stop at a junction or traffic lights it wets its self! Cant find the leak but petrol is running from the bottom of the carbs like a tap but stops when the engine is off. :/
  11. Had a driving instructor go nuts at me for driving behind a learner and being patient, must be because all motorbikes are evil, its the only explanation!

    general?

I dont really get all the areas? Is general for me to say i generally love my bike?
  13. Its not the speed, (my125 topped at 95mph ), its doin it in the right place and time
  14. Yes they have the choice, just keep away from me! Im not innocent, but im not dangerous to prove a point either!!
  15. So i am riding to work, come off a round about behind a car who is following a yellow bike and another car at about 45 in a 60 limit, the road is nice and clear ahead so i overtake hitting 60mph on the dot and pull in. As a van goes the other way i catch a glimps of yellow in my mirror, look right and the idiot is racing me(now going a little faster), riding the white line with traffic coming the other way. I accelerated and he tried but couldnt pass so i let the throttle go and dropped back. Now i have a proper view neither rider or pillion have any gloves boots or jackets on and the poor bike is practically scrubbing its rear tyre on the mud guard from the weight. The bike then continues to weave all over the road in front of me and dissapears at speed into a 30mph limit. I was well impressed at how cool this rider showed me he was today!
  16. Are you sure you are pulling choke on and not off? (or visa versa) and check if it has a vacuum tube to the fuel tap? Mine had a split so it didnt like starting but appeared to run fine....
  17. Ah yes seen one of those, very nice, but not a yamaha!
  18. Wow 2010, after my accident i ended up on a honda nsr125 then a honda dream..... Felt like a bit of a traitor! What is a zl ? Tried to google it but not much came up
  19. ... But as i havent been on for ages just saying hi again as my love of yamahas has just been renewd by getting an '85 xj700 maxim, my third yam, they are great!
  20. well was out on my xj yesterday and when i had to stop couldn't change down gear because my foot kept slipping off the gear shift from all the oil that was saturating my engine, jeans, boots, rear wheel. a piston ring has gone by the looks of it as when the engine was hot enough the oil was coming back through the air box like a running tap. that combined with needing a new exhaust and rear tyre actually means it would cost more to fix the bike up for mot next week than it would to buy another bike...... dilema..... i cant find a yamaha i can afford right now......... so the temporary optins are mot my nsr 125 or but a gsxr750 for £500
  21. rubbish int it, when i was sprawled across the floor still pinned down by my bike a massive lorry actually mounted the hedge to get past me, he could of atleast got my bike off me then driven past!!!!
  22. dude where'd you get them i want some!!
