  1. Looks like your having fun, like the unusual styling
  2. tune up the bike first, ignition timing, valve gaps, compression check and new spark plugs. then get back to us if it still plays silly buggers. ps check out motorcycle mechanics october issue (UK), they have a feature on the tx/xs500. come on england!!!
  3. Its the polymers in the oil with synths, your not supposed to use full synth. sounds like you are getting some clutch slip and it will get worse as the cork on the clutch starts to go as they are not designed with synth in mind!! your choice of course I wonder if an outer bearing seal is becomming brittle and when cold becames harder? maybe a crank/camshaft seal if it is revs dependant. A trick is to use a long screwdriver and listen like a stethescope for the loudest part.
  4. check out my free parts lists upload on the forum. then you can search each year to find the same part #, but the drum has a notch on the forks, whereas the disk has mounting holes for the caliper. you would also need front forks! Ditto for the 400 head the 250 and 400 def share the same layout but 250 has more meat and smaller valves. drewpy ps the "alloy" wheels weigh a ton, that's why i converted mine to 250 wires at great expense. (worth it though)
  5. AARRHH you used synthetic with a wet clutch. that noise could be the clutch slipping as the oil is too slippy. what's your acceleration like? You need at the most semi synth,

    My TX500

Hi and Welcome, ebay is far the best source and there are speed sport in usa who seem to have some hard to find parts (and you pay for it)it was TX up to 74 then xs after that to a slightly redesigned engine.
  7. fuel mate, could be diaphram probs in the pet cock
  8. this may help, from motogrid web site
  9. Silly Billy, you need to look at it with one eye, half closed and infected with late stages of conjunctivitus. Then it gets into perspective!!!
  10. I'm sorry to break this, but i found some "hidden code" on the photograph. This is what it really is like .................
  11. blummin' 'eck man. A chippy tea is the best meal in the world. its also the name of a song by the Lancashire hot pots, listen here; http://www.myspace.com/thelancashirehotpots it also explains whats in it innit'
  12. Its possible or the diaphram in the petcock is damaged causing leaks. you can get rebuild kts. To by-pass that issue: run some tubing from a container of gas (petrol) and place it higher than the carbs, suck on the pipe and let the fuel run down the pipe and quickly push the fuel pipe onton the carb intake. let the spilt gas evaporate and try starting the bike up and see if that helps. I do that to balance my carbs with the tank off! do this at your own risk!!!!!!!!!!!BTW
  13. make sure they are multi cored or you won't get your plug caps on.
  14. scaramanga had a twin nipple on his left chest. you can see them on a James Bond film Ask him
  15. yes, but it would make mine rarer and worth even more
  16. try squirting some easy start in the left carb, and if it kicks the engine you have fuel starvation (sticking float needle) or a massive air leak. usually the right carb has the vacuum take off, i'm sure yamaha would have done it on the left if they could as it would have saved ££'s on fuel tubing building so many 1000's of bikes. did you run the bike on prime which bypasses the vacuum system? and cleaned the fuel tap filter?
  17. xs250's had wires, but also alloys became standard across the 250cc range later. 400's where all cast alloys (bloody heavy ones)
  18. can you post a picure to see what your saying?
  19. that's the one which came after the xs360 as it has plain wheels rather than painted. if the rear guard is in good nick sell it off as they are rare and can't be bought new. the graphics are similar to the german versions. BTW the square tank versions are designated 2A2 models which are more popular in blighty than the US.
  20. heres a link for you http://www.classicmechanics.com/
  21. Harv, New pair on UK ebay 110176653553.
  22. could be worn valve guides/seals letting oil into the bore or worn bore/piston rings. a compression check for the latter and replacement for the former.
  23. the tx engine had a few teething problems which was "mainly" addressed when they renamed it the xs, so the engine mounts should be the same. motorcycle mechanics has a feature in this months edition which would be worth you buying.(either electronically or mail order)
