Ahahaha! Keeping me on the ball are you? That's good... I need it. :)

So where am I? All that's been done recently is work on the airbox. There were critters in there (grasshoppers I think) so i got all the carcasses and grit cleaned out from inside and degreased the outside. Now to paint it.

I still need to connect the mess of wiring in the headlamp so I'll probably get that done tonight or tomorrow. EDIT- what should I clean and coat the connectors with? Some evidence of corrosion (the green discoloration).

Got a new ignition coil and spark plug cap, but I'm not sure how to put them together. Do I need to bare some of the lead and screw it into the cap somehow?

Havent picked up the motor yet and I'll also need to ask them about the carburetor setup after they went up one on the piston.

Hmmm... what am I forgetting? :eusa_think:

Oh ya, need to order a sprocket and chain kit and get the rear sprocket on before I can mount the rear wheel.

A little fine wet & dry to get them shiny and a little Vaseline or petroleum jelly (or should that be jello in the US?) to keep them that way.

Glad to hear you sill moving foward.

If you got a ngk cap then just screw it into the HT lead from the coil,if its the old style with a rubber boot and a metal clip to fasten to the Ht lead the triangle gets pushed into the cable( kinda crapy personaly I would fit a NGK) and crimp it tight

I've always used dielectric grease on my contacts. I know they are different animals, silicone(dielectric grease) vs. hydrocarbon(petroleum jelly) based, and it seems like they would both keep the moisture out and prevent corrosion but the Vaseline would only be a problem if you got it all over any rubber boots covering electrical connections as vaseline breaks down rubber and latex. I'm a fan of cheap workarounds, thanks for the tip!

I did get an NGK spark plug cap so I'll do the screw method... hmmm maybe I should reword that. And now for something completely different...

I went to grease the front wheel brake plate (not the shoes :) just where the speedo gears are) and I noticed there are some chipped teeth on one of the gears. I think it's a worm drive set up... the worm is the one that has the chipped teeth... the gear that meshes to it looks okay, but when replacing gears it's best to replace both of them ya? There must be some kind of wear on one, otherwise, why would some of the teeth be chipped on the other? I'll get some pics up tomorrow since I probably don't make any sense. Also, I don't see how to get the worm out of the hub. Any tips/tricks/advice you all know?

Cant remember the DT but normally the way is to look into where the speedo cable goes and there may be a couple of slots showing. This allows you to unscrew this holed, circular, bolt out and then the worm drive can come out. The TS looked worn and I managed to find a NOS one off US fleabay. The old one still works fine so I have kept the new one for when I do need it. They can be brass so softer than steel and here may be a little rubber washer in there.

Someone probably put it together with dirt in there,I wouldn't worry to much about it very little load on the gears just needs to turn the cable and speedo.Pop the front wheel on and hook everything up and give the front wheel a spin.

Here's what I was facing in the garage this morning...

:( Makes it really hard to work when it's so cold. My fingers were so numb it was all I could do to keep hold of anything. It did get up to 30°F though and I got all of the wiring in the headlight bucket connected up... except for my new indicators. When I got this bike it didn't have any indicators so I'll have to take a look at the wiring diagram to see where they plug into the circuit. ?? I'm terrible, I have all these grand plans to get things done in the evenings after work, but after dinner I'm down for the count. :shakeno:

So, as promised, here's a look at the worm...

The gear looks good to me, but the worm looks like it's been eaten away. As DirtyDT suggested there are slots down where the speedo cable goes so I'm going to unscrew that "pegged bush" (as indicated in the manual, guess I should've started there :eusa_doh:) and (hopefully) get the worm out tomorrow for closer inspection. If I can clean it up well enough I'll use it otherwise it's about $15-$20 to get a new one.

Thats water dammage from sitting,if it rotates freely it will work.

as for working in the cold NFW a heater that fits on top of a propane tank cost 40-50 bucks 10 min would heat the shop up nice and toasty.I have one for ice fishing,and we use a old tent with no insulation in temp as low as -40c and we can sit in there in t shirts,and we sleep in there.And yes its vented so we don't die from exhauts fumes.

for my shop a nice wood stove just a cheap little 10"w x18"d x 12"h box I welded together out of scrap steel from a old oil tank ,cost 0.00 to run I collect skids from the lumber yard and end cuts from the roof truss company around the corner. It runs day and night keeping the shop around15 c at night and get it roaring and it gets up to 30c. I have seen kits to make a 45 gallon steel drum into a stove for 75.00 bucks if you have room come with leggs, door, and flue all cast iron wouldn't take more than a hour or 2 to put one together and as you have other projects to do later I would get a heat source NOW and by parts later. Not the safest but the BBQ can work too just make sure the co2 doesn't build up

My nephew-in-law was going to come help work on the bike (and bring a propane heater), but he's been a no-show so I've bucked up and done it anyway. :) I may ask for a heater for my birthday though! I would love to have a nice wood stove in the garage. Nothing quite like the smell of a wood-burning stove. First I'd have to make room for it.

The gears do seem to catch when I turn them so I ordered one just to be on the safe side. NW Vintage in Oregon had a few in stock so it should be here fairly quick. Got my airbox painted this morning and now I'm headed back out to take out that worm... and then cram everything back in the corner so I can pull my car in for the night.

Damn... an entire month has gone by again.... wish i knew how that happens. So the mechanic said he's got the barrel back from the machinist so he's going to work on getting my motor back together this week. He's also had the front brake plate for a couple weeks to get that speedo worm out since I gave up on it. Last time I spoke to him he said he got it to budge a bit and that he'd keep working on it. So here's where she stands until I can get the brake plate back for the front wheel and the sprocket for the rear wheel...

Its looking like it sach" :yeah: what colour is the tank, is it the blue, i see them in usa,, and green, we had red in 75.

Well... got the new worm installed and mounted the front wheel today. Also got the rear sprocket installed and rear wheel mounted.
