  1. I'm not sure what set you have, I have the cheapo ones with 4 gauges mounted on a blue/green steel plate. The gauges are decent enough, but the hose supplied with them was utter rubbish. I replaced my hoses years ago, after it perished away to nothing.
  2. Those replica acrylic chinese fairings are supposed to be quite decent. Very close to OEM interms of fit and finish - far ahead of the crap GRP stuff that used to rule the replacement market. I wish they'd sell them for the FZR1000.
  3. Probably means that the cams weren't manufactured from the Honda-Cadbury alliance of the late 70s - early 80s.....

    WTF?

In Bristol the old bill got on top of this about a decade ago, to the point where idiots on 'crossers were extinct. A lack of plod has now seen it come back to really bad levels. Really pisses me off and gives us all a bloody bad name.

    Rust

A chap near me has restored to showroom a superdream. he used a zinc plating kit bought online for not too much cash. The bike looks mint.
  6. to my best knowledge it is not a straight swap: though the gearboxes are interchangeable. you need to get over to carpe-tdm, the guys there will have definitive input - you name it jbx et all have done it.
  7. The TRX850 motor does fit - but they are rarer than 4TX engines. it a difficult call, that's looks like a split crankcase job. I'd be inclined to try to find you local automotive engineer and ask their opinion - sometimes they have kit and techniques that allows them to perform repairs to cracks and breaks without tearing the engine down.

I'd been inclined to look on ebay for standard dogbones, there are always some for sale search for linkage or links though. As for fitting a later model suspension, is it worth the hassle? you'd be better off fettling the suspension you have than fitting the suspension from a newer model. I have 2 bikes with USD forks and they aren't massively better than RWU forks, the reduction in unsprung weight can be achieved more readily elsewhere. Why not get them rebuilt (Or do it yourself) and fit racetech emulators if they are RWU forks? that'll give almost race levels of damping. Don't make a load of agro for yourself, k.i.s
  9. Nothing as standard apart from the steering lock. It is always advisable to go worst case scenario, e.g. only say it has an alarm if it works and you have the relevant paperwork or datatag only if you have the certs and it is registered. In my experience it makes very little difference to the price you pay anyway.
  10. If some mystery scaffold appeared on my house, i'd be chuffed. Straight up to all the jobs, I keep putting off - sort the aerial out, repoint a few ridge tiles, reflaunch the chimney pot etc.
  11. I wouldn't worry. That won't make it inaccurate [leaving them wound-up for long periods or whacking them with a hammer is what knocks them out].
  12. If you get dates nailed down - I might come too - I've done the pyrenees and the picos, but more than happy to do them again.
  13. Enjoy - they go like stink, i'd love another 4TX.

  15. That was a blast folks, a great weekend. Meet Review headlines: (1) Soup's off (2) Squire's tea and breakfast still mediocre. (3) White LCs are better looking than yellow perils. (4) All you can eat isn't what it seems. Great stuff.
  16. I'm leaving shortly - i'll probably arrive about 9pm. Can someone get another space at the chy knees for me? in a bit
  17. Where's barkwindjammer? shame he's completely off of the radar
  18. That sidestand looks awful imo. Certainly not something on i'd put on a yzf125.- if length is the same then it can probably be made to fit. Not sure why it says suitable for land rovers, typical chinese randomness. The chinese sliders are fine though, I have similar.
  19. Should be fine, the reservoir level doesn't go down much even, with pad wear, on twin disc set-ups. My only advice would be to inspect the quality of it before fitting. It should be fine though, it is only a reservoir.
  20. What time are you arriving on Friday? My work is no longer hounding the shit out of us in September now, so I might be able to get up to Yawksha. It'll be on the FZ1 tho, would love to use the Gamma, but will need to 90mph the M5, 42 and 1. Potentially I could be in Sherbert in ya Helmet before 9pm.
  21. I thought it was just me that found Henry Cole as dull as dishwater. The Motorcycle Show is satisfactory tv at best, nothing more. He doesn't even seem to be a very good rider, he lacks confidence and doesn't seem to ride with any dynamism. A wannabe old-fart obsessed with rubbish that vibrates more than it accelerates. There must be something better than this. Not fucking Steve Berry though...

    M25

It's not that bad: (1) the ring roads of all major cities seem to be way beyond capacity - the M25 is no different in that respect. (2) imagine having to drive from somewhere like Heathrow to Harlow without it - north circular hell and hours of crawling through hateful NL surburbia. (3) It does flow well at times, when I used it at 0700 in the morning, yes it's sodding busy but considering the volume of traffic it flows pretty briskly and drivers are on their toes and let bikes filter at speed. Yes, it's an utter bitch when they close sections, but it's almost the ultimate strategic road. I like it.

    TDM 850 /900

2 pot brake calipers also have 2 pistons. Each engine configuration has advantages and disadvantages. Singles are light/narrow, but can be vibey, inline fours can be heavy, wide and complex. It's why twins (parallel and vee) and triples are popular (less revvy than a four more torquey but with less outright power). The TDM engine (post 1996 in particular with the crossplane 270degree firing order), is quite vibe free at 70-90mph and makes an efficient long distance tool.

    TDM 850 /900

TDMs are brilliant bikes. The boys over at CarpeTDM, are amongst the most hard core and gen'd up on any forum I go on. Stick 'em on a bumpy B road and nothing gets away from them, the lumpy twin (96 onwards) and the long suspension travel makes for a seriously quick road tool. Personally i'd get a 900 if I were buying one. The second generation 850s are good, but all the 850s are mikuni-CV carbed and the bloody things wear out to quickly. Also better brakes, ignition system and more sophisticated. Prices are strengthening on them (probably due to the wider adventure thing and also because people know a good thing when they ride it). If you get one keep it, they are nailed-down, true future classics. When are you going to Spain?
