  1. Get under there - or turn your bike upside down - and check if your center stand stop rubber (bump stop) is still there. i.e. if that bike was ever fitted with one. If you see a bracket in that area pointing downwards (frame or exhaust) with a round hole in the bottom - with nothing in obviously, there's your problem. And stop shouting ...... ?!?!?!

As for exhaust : tried original 10 years ago and nowhere to be found. Went with a very good stainless jobbie.
  4. When I started out on my little SR250SE special this was a model line in 400, 650 & 1000V variety if I recall correctly. The top of the range 1000 could be had in the Midnight Special livery. I drooled over that bike but could not afford at the time. Or I'm making all this up? - it was 30 years ago afterall
  5. Yup had to have a look at mine last night for the bumper details and saw it wasn't a WJ - although I had a WJ 4.7 V8 myself before this one. Nice rig mate

Her indoors has been a radiographer all her professional life and unfortunately has been witness to the bad bits of biking more than a few times in that a set of leathers is the only thing keeping the bones together..... worse if they didn't wear any. Hence she's always passionately been against any of our two muppets taking up the 'sport' or even riding pillion with me.

The master is pretty straight forward as long as you put the new bits in the same way they came out - note : an internal circlip plier is a pre-requisite. ... how do I know that ... lol

  14. Mission accomplished !!!! + lubricate chain & full polish. Speck in the distance ...... Yup. Erm ... oh yeah ... was a bit too enthusiastic spannering and split the bottom part of the clamp holding the master cylinder onto the handle bar. Anybody got one ?

  17. Operation clutch tomorrow, Master & Slave refurb with all my newly acquired bits from Wemoto Oh and I just noticed that green box with '....vehicles' in the user box on the left. Updated mine with pics of every Yam I ever had. Not much compared with some of the retards on here I must admit

  19. Yo Slice, Yup twas interesting reading. Thanks for the offer of the plates. Can you hang on to them for a bit. I assume that having to open up the block to deal with the innards is only a matter of time & mileage :-) I have 66K on the clock now so dunno when they will give up the ghost. Mind you that would be something for the specialist spanners anyway, I'm way to chicken for that. Also in addition to my lube oil thread the bloke had an interesting take on the matter : Motorcycle wet clutches are designed to run *only* certain types of oil... While synthetics are generally okay, any engine oils that contain silicon or other friction modifiers *may* cause the clutch to slip. Whilst "Yamalube" has a stupid name, I always run only Yamaha engine oil or a general duty diesel type motor oil in my own engines as diesel oils have a higher detergent content that assists to keep the clutch plates cleaner and the pores of the plates un-clogged. Sun's out !!
  20. Hey Slice, Thanks for the above intel. Guess what ...... yup clutch going a bit 'spongy' on me yesterday. Immediately ordered master & slave kits :-) Strange how this occurs from one day to another. Friday I wouldn't have thought twice about my clutch operation ...... yesterday it was shiet !! As for bleeding the system, this is pretty straight forward with the master filled to the brim and gravity does the rest through the open bleed nipple at the bottom. Cherio !!
  21. Yeah, that was seals & pistons, the lot. Now sorted anyway but may refurb my old ones, new seals only, if I want to get away from SWMBO for a bit :-)
  22. When the FJ developed a pulsing front brake action after changing pads last year the bobbins was my first port of call. It was really annoying because at slow speed/coming to a stop I had the feeling the discs were warped by an inch or so and the whole front end was juddering. Sprayed the bobbins and gave them a turn and felt they needed doing but that but that was not the solution. Opened up the calipers but there is only so much you can see : little oil ring & 4 pistons. Fook me .... at the price those pistons go for it would cost a bomb to do both sides. A £25 quid pair of calipers from ebay was the solution. I think that an uneven action from the pistons must have caused the pads to engage at wrong angles but I will never know unless I spend best part of 250 quid and refurb my old ones.
  23. Slice, Yup ! Nice pics. Rolled the FJ out of the garage 3 weeks ago. (after what, 5 months or so?) Battery was shagged so a quick charge, off to work via the bike place for MOT. Couple of hours later problem free MOT + new battery. Rear tire on it's last legal legs but can do that a bit later. Been commuting ever since, apart from the shit days, like today. Like a sewing machine. Happy days :-)
  24. Roger that Slice. I assume that fully synth. is for the new crotch rockets. Mineral or semi synth. will do for my ageing tank.
