  1. Finally got it running properly, I had to go up to 127.5 and 130 main jets, plus lift the needles to their highest position and add another 20 thou spacer, but it runs really well now and has excellent torque, pulls like a train from zero to full throttle, no missing or back firing, and sounds great, thanks to all who gave advice, especially "noise"
  2. sounds like the main jets, or at least one of them is blocked, have you removed the main jets and jet tubes and blown them out? electrical components either work or they don't, there usually isn't any in between.
  3. I'm not to familiar with the 125 dragstar, but, do make sure there is enough clearance around the drive sprocket to fit a bigger one. you dont want to buy a sprocket and then find the chain touches the casing.
  4. Daft question, have you got two of the plug leads the wrong way round, I assume it was ok untill you fitted the plugs.
  5. There is noise, and there is noise, big v twins with straight through pipes don't really sound any loader than old British twins, but the higher reving small piston engines, such as scooters, mopeds, and (no offence) 125s, annoy people with there piercing "chainsaw like" exhaust tone, these types of bikes are usually being ridden flat out, engines screaming, so the police will stop you. I was told this by a motorcycle cop who always frequents our local bike meets at various pubs,
  6. They are going to have big loops in them because of the extra length, you will have to fit standard bars on it, and asses whether or not this will pose any danger. By the way how on earth did your insurance Co. know you had larger handlebars? I'v never heard that one before.

    warn status

Anyone know why it says "warn status" under my profile? doesn't seem to be on anyone else's.
  8. If you have any tight spots on that chain, that will be where all the noise is coming from, especially when it rolls over the drive sprocket, what this means is, the chain is knacked! no amount of oiling will remedy this, obviously that chain is faulty and if it breaks you will damage the engine casing or your ankle or it might wrap itself around the back wheel, who knows! I had this problem on my R1 and it started hopping on the drive sprocket, I ignored it, and it cost me a new chain and sprockets, " buy another chain."
  9. Your indicator relay should only have two connectors on it, try it either way, it wont hurt it, it will only work one way, if you wire it the wrong way round it wont do anything so you simply swap the wires round. the relay unit is simply a metal strip fixed between two points, it will be at rest on one of these points, when you turn on the indicator switch, a current is sent through the metal strip, heating it up causing it to bend, in doing so it brakes contact with the point on which it is resting and touches the opposite point sending a short current to the front and rear bulbs, as soon as it makes this connection it cools down and flicks back to the point it was resting on, and heats up and flicks back to the other one and will continue doing this at about one second intervals untill you switch off the power from the turn signal switch on the handlebars. I hope that makes sense. By the way, the two wires feeding the relay are brown and brown/white.
  10. Iv increased the main jet size by x 2.5 set the needle to the bottom setting and put another 20 thou washer under the needle, and its still back firing and missing when I open her right up, she's ok up to say half throttle, do I need to go bigger still with the main jets, oh and the plugs are a very light tan, Im getting pissed off with it now, this is the second time the carbs have been out, I'm tempted to put the original jets back in and the stock pipes back on, but these big bore slash cuts do sound good, what to do???
  11. I had a pet slug once, I called It Ken, bought some slug pellets for him, and he died? "does exactly what it says on the tin"
  12. very nice, Bobbers usually look thrown together, but yours looks great.
  13. If your bikes brand new then I would assume you have warranty on it, Its usual for the dealer to undertake the servicing for the period of the warranty, be careful here, If you do any maintenance yourself, beyond that recommended in the owners handbook, you may null and void the warranty, check this with the dealer before you change anything.
  14. How did you even notice that personally I would leave it alone, and let it develop, be easier to trace.
  15. I use chip fat in my bike, the car runs great on it! simply filter out the chip fat through a pair of old pants to remove bits of batter, fishcake or scampi, and add some BRUT in fact "splash it all over" otherwise it will smell like a take-away. I wonder if you can get fully synthetic MAZOLA??? :biglaugha: :biglaugha: :biglaugha:
  16. Thanks for the replies guys, Iv ordered a new main jet (the front one which is a 112.5 will go in the back cylinder) and a new 115 for the front, It was 112.5 front and 110 back, this will increase to 115 front and 112.5 back, It runs fine on tickover and low speed, so i will leave the pilot jet and needle alone, if this fails then i will have to alter them. Im trying to minimise the amount of tampering and hopefully this will be the case, cant do anymore to it until the new jet arrives, my local bike shop has a box full of jets of every size, from 80 to 210 at £2 each, great, except the 115's are missing!. spent a whole Mo-Fo hour going through that box.
  17. Just fitted some slash cut pipes to my 2000 reg. xvs 1100a, it runs fine up to about a 1/4 throttle, but if I open it up, it miss fires, back fires, pops and bangs and flames at the exhaust ends when throttling off, If I run it on choke its fine, any ideas, low back pressure perhaps? Its obviously a fuel problem, anyone know of any tricks to cure this, without re-jetting or reverting back to the stock pipes?????
  18. A method that lasts longer than washing up liquid is to rub a dry bar of soap on the inside of the visor, then polish it off with a dry cloth, you dont need to go mad with the soap, just a few squiggly lines will do, then wipe off.
  19. Hi foamy, it will be cheaper to buy a used ingnition switch and key from a bike breaker, there are plenty about, or try ebay. go to Yamaha, and they will kick you in the wallet """HARD""". Plenty of plug caps on ebay. And I would strongly recommend you strip that engine, you must get all the water out, because it will emulsify the oil, and then, bye bye bearings.
  20. I have a classic, Actually I got more than 100 miles out of it, I forgot that my mates filled up at the garage by the Ace Cafe but I being me, thought i would be all right and after riding round the south circular and down the A23 I had to fill up at pease pottage services, so it probably did more than 100 miles.
  21. High there, I was wondering whether you go to the "Wednesday bike nights", we usually run to a pub in the Tewkesbury, Malvern, Evesham area, this usually attracts 2 or 300 bikes, so its well worth the ride out, If you want to check out the web site, type in "Wednesday bike night" now winters getting closer the Wednesday night rides have been moved to Sunday afternoon, the next meet is on Sunday 30th of this month, at a pub in Cambridge down the A 38, I cant remember the pub name but apparently its the one next to the speed camera, shouldn't be hard to spot as it will be full of bikes. I cant make it then, because of work. I might be teaching you how to suck eggs here, and you may already know about it. Still thanks for the reply. By the way did you go on the Ace cafe to Brighton run, in September.? ( I hate Haggis )
  22. If you want to do silly speeds buy an R1, "I did" 180mph with no effort, but lady luck was sure to run out, so I got ride of it, before it was "goodnight Vienna"
  23. Have you checked the fuel tap, try it on reserve, or take the fuel pipe off the carb, let it flow into a bottle or jar and watch for a steady strong flow,do this on reserve as well, if all is well, then you know its not that, if it does make a difference, and you have restricted flow, then remove the tank and thoroughly clean it and the tap. and you will need to clean the carb again. oldgitonabike is probably right, but, the only way dirt gets into the jets, is from the tank, so check the basics first. just a thought, has your bike got a restricter of some kind in it, to make it legal for moped riders, im not to up on the new power restrictions for 125s, so I might be talking do-do.
