  1. Thats that problem solved?? ....now we need to know, does it run?? (fingers crossed) ironic is`nt it? here we all are on a Yamaha site talking about Hondas & Suzukis??? i did try to buy a small Yam! honest guv!!
  2. Hello Mr Gas-Up ..... i think that the link in your reply is missing??
  3. Even though a sat-nav is proberly 12V i am sure i will be able to put enough volts in it to get a bit of a charge (partial charge) to get me out of trouble. if i am riding in daylight without using the lights i think it will be ok. i will be doing a couple of test runs before my mini-tour (and i mean mini!!) to see if these things work out. When this little CG125 turns up and i have got all of my luggage sorted, i will take it for a spin fully loaded to ensure nothing falls off. as for sat-nav being waterproof?? i just wont use it in the rain. i dont mind a bit of rain, that`s to be expected but if it rains that much, i`m going home .
  4. i am trying not to leave everything till the last minute...so i have been looking at maps today, to try to come up with some destinations??? the thing is i hav`nt even taken delivery of the bike yet ... but i know it`s coming soon as the deal is already struck. i have to get all the other bits together as well.... things like panniers, rack, tankbag, & maybe a small flyscreen? i have all the camping gear already because i go night-fishing, so a fair bit of that stuff can be used. i have a blackbelt in being a pussy so i am not going to do this for a few months yet, so hopefuly the weather will improve. that way i might not need so much wet weather gear (i hope), i hope i`m not tempting fate here!!! next step after deciding exactly where i am going is to find campsites in those areas.. i am also thinking about trying to rig up my sat-nav to the bike. that way i`ll know how to get there and that i wont be sleeping on the side of the road
  5. are you sure all new seals are airtight??? and seated right?? i had trouble with a GT250 with a seal that would only leak when the bike was warm cos it was`nt saeted right. so every time the engine warmed up and seals got a bit softer and metal expanded there would be a leak (causing lack of compression) is the condenser friar tucked?? Just a thought??
  6. ???? would you be interested??
  7. i`v been to Edinbugh, Glasgow, Stirling, Inverness, Loch Lomond, and a few other places in bonny Scotland. trust me!! you have nicer touring country where you are than i have here. that said North Norfolk is nice in it`s own funny way... i suppose it`s a case of you/we always look further afield than where we live?and think about how we would like to have a look.. i`ll be back there one day when i do the Lands end to John O`groats, but not on a CG125
  8. M25?? oh! you mean our massive car-park hopfully i wont be that far south. i`m looking at North Norfolk.
  9. have you tried the stuff that people use to clean white plimsoles?... just a thought
  10. After reading a thread on here and thinking about it, i have decided to tour East Anglia on a small bike . Why use a small bike i hear you say? well because it`s a challenge and a lot cheaper than using my ZXR and i dont trust my XS400 yet plus i am unemployed so i need to keep costs down. i have been reading up on this and some people have done some impressive tours on little bikes, like Lands End to John O`Groats or to spain and back!! I am going to start off small, ie 100 mile overnighters and see how it goes? if things go well i will then start to branch out into bigger tours that are further away from my home. i`ve been looking for weeks for a cheap & cheerful small bore yam (single cylinder, less than 250cc) but they hold thier prices and i have not found anything in my price range (£250 max)unless it`s been a real donkey! So i`ve got a Honda CG125 lined up for this adventure. i looked at YB100`s RS100`s RSX100`s DT`s of various sizes but theres nothing out there thats a real bargain , thats how i ended up going for this little Honda. have any of you lot done anything like this? what problems did you come up against? any good tips?
  11. so slow here that i thought there was something wrong with the PC at my end!!! feel a bit more at ease now (dont have to buy a new PC )
  12. if it`s been outside & standing for a long time the chances are that the weather has got into a connection somewhere, and this could mean you`ve got no earth??? possibly??
  13. "Hear Hear" theres plenty of room in the desert
  14. What and make my ZX6R dirty!!!! AND put milage on it!!!! ... god forbid. wait till my XS400 finished then i`ll be out there..... in all weathers... falling off and bending it in all seriousness, with idiot car drivers, and spilt diesel it`s bad enough but add snow & ice to that and i think i will hide under my duvet
  15. i know middlsex well having lived in Chiswick, Feltham, & southall and worked in Harrow & Ealing. i would be interested in a Yam meet?... but first i need to sort out this damm timing/ignition/carburation problem on my XS400. plus i would want to do it when the weather is a bit better, so if my bike let me down i would`nt freeze to death while i wait for it to be recovered! (maybe i should get a better yam )
  16. ok! heres the question??... without choosing a bike for profit, what bike in your past would you have again?? what bike would you like to have again because it was a good ride? and easy to work on, oh! and low cost? for me it would have to be my LC250 = many many smiles per miles!!
  17. happy new year to all from a newish member .... if any of you are thinking of going to Great bently (East of England) on a Wednesday evening in the summer, you never know.... others from this forum may be there as well???
  18. i had an old TS250, and that was a brilliant commuter bike = nippy & light and easy to work on
  19. 11 out 10... top stuff what a top nutter ..... oh to be that mad just once!

    older bikes

it`s a funny old thing to look back at the bikes you once owned.. when i was a spotty youth, i owned bikes such as suzuki A100`s, FS1E`s, Honda CB125 twin, LC250 ,Suzuki GT250`s = many, suzuki DR, plus a bucketful of off road stuff, ect ect and i remember them all with a big smile and thought they were the mutts nuts???? oh except for the CZ!! just recently i had the chance to ride both a CB125 twin and a A100 and it`s surprising how small they are. how i ever managed to go fast on any of those is beyond me thier handling and brakes scared the life out of me i think being 6 stone heavier and 4" taller might have some effect on the aero-dynamics me-thinks what bike have you owned in the past that is not as good as you first thought it was?? that said i still think that the older bikes are easier to work on..... what do you lot think ???
  21. Very Very good i just hope i can remember that when i get pulled over for speeding
  22. if the rings are at the ports your diesel will go everywhere....... that is correct but dont worry about that to much , because if you generous with your diesel and splash it about a bit it will find its own way to the stuck parts... diesel creeps. i found that bringing the engine onto the warm helps also.... dont ask me to explain???? it just seems to help. what i did many moons ago with an A100 (similar engine) was block up the exhaust&carb ports, then pour diesel into the plug hole, put the plug back in and shake the engine, also turning it upside-down. this got diesel into every nook and crany. a week later and a few short hard knocks on the kick-start and a large socket on the sproket nut (put it in gear) ... hey presto!!! some movement. once i got some movement, i did`nt force it to hard, i just let the diesel work for another day and tried again, after a few days the engine would turn over i might not do it this way on a bike that i was going to restore to pristine condition, but it worked on my little A100 field-bike hope this helps
  23. Gosser danker Herr Drewpy.... ser goot!
  24. !*#t i missed that... i will look in a minute..... thank you for your replies lads
  25. as one or two of you may be aware, i`m trying to reserect a bag of bolts into an XS400. i am at the stage now where i may have to buy from abroad for a few parts and i am concerned. this could be my first time buying from abroad. we all know of someone who has been conned or fiddled by scammers abroad... what i would like to know is what i need to look out for when buying from overseas. what have you lot come across?? who should i avoid? do you lot know of any companies that give a very bad service to thier overseas buyers??? are there any really good companies that you lot can recommend??? in particular exhaust companies..... it`s a sad state of affairs when i can buy a new set of pipes from across the pond cheaper than i can get ones from the UK??
