  1. A i see you have it almost sorted. If bike was standing for a few years then it probably is just corosion. What you are doing will prob get all gears eventually. I was thinking you might have a bent selector shaft or worn selector end pin, these usualy happen if the bike was dropped on the gear-change lever or if the bike has high milage. If you cant get 4th or 5th get back to us. Good luck.
  2. Does it go past 2nd gear when the bike is not started by any chance,,, you know walk with it,1st gear, walk 2nd gear, walk--- will it then go to 3rd by any chance
  3. Forgive me if im wrong! Petrol in a plastic tank, is this a good idea? Would the tank not expand and contract in hot and cold conditions? Would you ever be able to get a good seal where the fuel tap is on it? Would you get a lot of condinsation on the inside if the weather was warm? Would it not loose is shape as petrol and plastic dont realy get on well to-geather? Would it not have to have realy thick walls to stop all of the above from happening and in doing so this might make it actually heavier than the origional steel tank? Maby im wrong in my thinking and if so please correct me! Me.....I wouldnt want one..

    PM ERROR

A then, thats not to bad, modern tec. give me the old days anytime !
  9. Welcome lilsammy I myself would not be comfortable with the idea of triming things down like the way you are describing. Pattern parts that you buy off websites are not always the same as origional parts. You might have to get an origional sproket from a dealer. Is the bike really a 04 or is this just the year it was registered, maby there were changes to the spec's of the bike between 03 and 04 (although i dout it) I would take origional sproket to a bike shop and ask them if they had one like yours or could they get you one, I know More Money, but i dont like the idea of messing arround with other parts just to make your sproket fit. Anyhow surly the right sproket can be found for you bike. Good Luck, and dont listen to people that you buy things off saying that you should change other things on your bike just to make there part fit, after-all (all they want to do is sell you something)

  12. Sorry to here about your trouble,,,, least your ok. Its not that hard a job to replace the brake leaver, ya dont realy need a manual, just take good look at the way its on and then start dismanteling taking note of how it comes off and then reverse the process to put back on. post us any prob ya have.
  13. She's good at "PULLING" open that cracker
  14. look in FAQ. Left click on the IMG code----- the bit that lights up blue Right click that--------- left click copy. return to your post--------- right click---------- paste. HOPEFULLY
  15. Ok then, if the front has a little play that means the back bearings probabbly wont be far behind. While the front of the bike was off the ground, did you grab the bottom of the forks and attempt to push / pull on them feeling for the same movement as you got in the wheel. 19,000 miles on her, maby you should change the brake fluid "in the front anyway". it tends to loose its umph after a while. (wont cost much) Pack the new bearings well with high resistant grease when putting them in. Hope this was the prob of the bars vibrating. Let us know!
  16. On right-hand sid of bike there should b a sight-glass just behind the brake peddel Start bike let it warm up to normal running temp then stop engine, have a brew of tea and wait 5mins then stand bike up straight while looking at sight glass.oil should b at the little line or half way up the glass. take ur time it takes a min r 2 for oil to settle in glass for good reading.
  17. Welcome escie Dont syphon off the old oil if i was you, it can b pritty hard to get it bled properly to the pump + then from the pump to the carb you will have to manualy hold on the pump with your hand because if you dont your engine sill be starved of oil for the first min or so. Just top up with semi synthetic ( i use silcolene ) and dont ever let the oil level drop below an inch of the bottom. (it dissapears very fast after that) Go for a spin see what its like and post back. ps. check engine oil 2
  18. Is that you Drewps, Maby your the man that can sort out ( where has England gone ) in that other post

  20. Yep it was really lovely. I had passed the nearest town before on my 600 but I didnt know that all these sites were there, It is only because I took to the back roads that I stumbled on this area. Which gets me thinking --- how many other places have we all been and just missed out on the reall beauty of our countrys. Well all have to slow-down and think twice about where were going -------- we could b missing the best bits !!! Everyone should head for the coasts roads
  21. Yea, I think ill leave the staying out over nite till the weather warmes up abit. Think in that first pick-- it was a hydrolic arm for lifting things with. I also was thinking about more lights on the front and maby more red reflecters on he back, there was a thread were Gas up--Lets Go had a link for some nice lights, think he has them on his Tenere, ( cant find it ) but they have to be hooked up to the charging system and for little bikes our charging system has enough to do. I think the lights you are on about might just do the job, you could hook them onto the handlebars. They would need to be prety strong though to b seen in daylight. Do you know anyone with a trailer, i wouldnt fancy that journey either on a unfirmiliar bike, all-though you would probably make it, just have someone lined up to come and get you if all doesnt work out.
