  1. Im game: me, first time on a motorcycle (alone) my dads kawasaki (thats all i know, I would love to know what year and kind it was, i think it was an enduro) the year 1977 I was 7 and im a little little guy. i was thinking that if i could just get it rolling and get the kickstand up i could ride it....
  2. perhaps im misinformed myself, but can anybody explain to me how a speedo (which basically counts the number of tire revs) and uses gears to achieve the corrtect tire to needle/odometer ratio, how can it work on both 16 & 21 inch tires? (without being re-geared for one or the other) i mean if you wanted to get maniacally detailed about it, even tire wear would cause fractional changes in the accuracy of a speedo... also do 1974 dt175's have chain tensioners? or are they supposed to? mine dosent (should it?) lemme know if you need a battery (unless you want yamaha stock) , in my town we have a place that has sealed cell and wet cell. ( i use a sealed cell, much les leaky) I can get you a link.

  4. I used to program my apple 2 in basic. before that i had a ti994a that saved data on a audio cassette tape in a shoebox tape recorder via an RS-232 cable my buddy had a modem that was top of the line for his apple. (you took your phone off the receiver and placed it on this cradle thing) today's youth take too much for granted. oh, yeah and using a calculator in math class was CHEATING, not required. nowadays algebra is just an instruction on how to use a graphing calculator. back in the day we used paper and rulers and lots of pencils.
  5. awww fooooamyyyy thats why they dont allow youngsters in bars. their skin is too thin (no worries, im just doggin on ya!)
  6. back in my town, there was this district judge, she was 600 pounds if she was an ounce. so fat that she had a powered chair and a pet oxygen tank. (most of this is culled from an article) she has been accused of having a bailiff rub her back to sleeping in the courthouse to making her husband swear under oath that he has done the chores at home. Now the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission is starting a week of hearings to remove her from the bench. there are Nevada judges and lawyers who tell stories about Halverson, 50, in disbelief that she ever made it to the bench. She certainly cuts a notable figure. Obese and propelled on a motorized scooter, she had surrounded herself with private guards and has been seen sleeping in court. She has been suspended from work on the bench but doggedly holds on to the job. Halverson vehemently denies the allegations. However, while some statements to a bailiff like “do you want to worship me from afar?” sound like jokes, other actions are harder to explain like calling 911 when court administrators tried to get into her office and falling asleep in court. She has been accused of creating a hostile work environment, misusing her authority, hiring a hacker to penetrate the court computer system, causing mistrials by meeting with jurors and other acts that led the commission to declare that she posed “a substantial threat to the public or to the administration of justice.” also, her yard was in such dis-array that the city cited her numerous times to clean it, and eventually ended up having a crew come in and clean it for her. she was claiming job discrimination. recently her home was the subject of a police response after her husband allegedly hit her with a frying pan. (I wonder why )
  7. rare footage of Foamy's first ride on a motorcycle. (with a mate)

  11. if you can post a pic of the old one... I could help. if you mean the blinking led that indicated alarm status..... its been my experience with leds that as long as you are near the right voltage, they will light up. I went out to radio shack and bought a 12v blue led for my truck, I used it to replace the alarm led which was red. so heres what you do: first off, hook a cheap voltmeter to the wire leads that connected to the led. arm the alarm. the voltmeter will then tell you 2 things. 1) how many volts you are needing. 2) if the voltmeter pulses zero to however many volts and back to zero etc. then you need a steady lit regular old led. (this is the usual case) you could probably pluck one out of an old pc tower or get a wide assortment of sizes and colors at radio shack. if it (voltmeter) is steady , (which is doubtfull) you need to get a blinking led. also available at radio shack. if you dont have a voltmeter, just go buy a cheap led at an electronics store. for that matter, if you wanted, you could get one of those led strips like thay have at walmart. and wire that in, and tape it to the underside of a panel in your bike. then the whole bike would flash when the alarm was on. the shack also has those little plastic holder rings for the led that hold it in place in the panel where you put it. you may be able to remove the old one (sometimes they come off) some leds have wires coming off that are insulated, some have metal prongs. the longer prong is the positive lead. a little wire and some solder (if you are inclined) and some shrink tubing is all you need. I have done this A-LOT! on my dt175 (which is a 6v) I hooked up some of those license plate bolt leds to act as gauge lights. I mounted them to shine at the gauge face. they are 12v leds, but work just fine at 6v. if you cant find a store that has leds in your area, let me know, I can drop one in an envelope and mail it your way.
  12. well its been almost 24 hours..... suppose foamy is still awake? or did he flog himself to sleep....
  13. I recommend enlisting these fellows:
  14. wow, oldgit, that looks remarkably unpleasant. I know your pain. the last time I didnt wear a pair of steeltoes at work was in 1998. I dropped a 2" x 16" x 20 foot long plank edgewise on my toe. ( I had worn sneakers that day so as to make playing hacky sack at break easier.) I wear steeltoes as regular wear since then. I think that i have worn sneakers or dress shoes on the rare occasion, but, I have just gotten used to wearing steel toed boots as daily wear. after your legs get built up, you dont notice anymore. I hike in them, shop in them, heck, I work in an office now and i still wear 'em of course i ride my yamaha to work, but even if im in a car.....
  15. found this today when I was just cruizing the web. It is a fairly good and straight forward resource for a first time owner, covering all the basics of maintaining and servicing a cycle. http://www.scribd.com/doc/9379130/Maintaining-Motorcycles
  16. I occasionally get static shocks in my fingers from what you described D.DT but its usually when the weather is crispy dry. i can only imagine what it would be like to ride on carpet.... you should come over, we could go for a ride.
  17. coil voltage hurts like heck, I cant imagine how it feels when wet. When I was young and in 7th grade, I took a class on small engine repair (lawnmower motors) the teacher was talking about HT voltage and made the class form a circle and hold hands. then the kid at one end held the motor while the kid at the other end held the plug wire and the teacher was to pull the start cord. having done this before quite by accident with my dads lawnmower, I knew that it wasnt something that i was willing to submit myself to willingly. I declined to participate, and it was insisted upon that i did, i still refused and ended up in the deans office. one quick phone call to my parents later, I was back in class in time (without incident) to watch the rest of the class do the "oops I touched the coil wire jig" they all walked to their seats rubbing their arms and giving me a look like i should have somehow warned them all.
  18. mine starts fine with the battery unplugged. but like you and I said Jim, the battery acts as a buffer or soak. so if you dont mind replacing a headlight everytime you rev it up.... or leave the lights off. just so you know though, revenger, the battery im currently using dosent have to be refilled. http://www.batteriesplus.com/p-32650-werke...7-terminal.aspx i got tired of maintaining the ones i was buying before. the acid was sloshing out, or something. they were always going dead. i was returning them once per month. the one i shown above i have had for several months. works fine. I had to make some cardboard shims to keep it from ratteling around in the battery box, I made sure that it was nice and tight. my bike dosent have a cdi, its an old points bike. but i dont see how that would make any difference.
  19. bravo mervin! that needs a place here all its own.
  20. I had to go across town the other day and the fastest route was down Las Vegas Blvd. in case you dont know, thats the street in vegas with all the casinos along it. it was very early (7 am) so the tourists were still nursing hangovers (most of em) the locals were already at work, or still at home. so i pretty much had only a few cars along with me. I still got some fairly strange looks from people though, you just dont expect to hear a 2 stroke on the strip. I would NEVER ride that street (also known as the strip) at night. its fekkin crazy then. between the cabbies zipping around the lost tourists, and the tourists lookie looing. and the cruizers, its just too dangerous on a friday or saturday night. I barely feel safe in my suburban.
  21. whats red and black and goes crunch? meathead's suzuki hitting the street after a failed showoff attempt. "there goes my party money for the weekend" what a bag.
  22. you could do what i did.... my duct tape to seat material ratio reached critical mass the other day so i took the seat off of its hinges. I cut a pair of jeans' leg off, split it up the middle. then i wrapped it around the seat and used a screw gun to put very short screws into the underside while pulling the denim tight and worked my way front, then back, then each side little by little all around. I used jeans because They were black, they had a hole in the ass so i couldnt wear em to work, and im a cheap bass stirred. if you want I could post some before and after pics so you can see what i mean.
