  1. Hi Jim I believe you are correct the hose on the bottom of the carb is the float chamber overflow, the hose in the side is also a breather, on my DT twinshock both of these are routed down the rear of the engine under the air box. Aj

  5. Hi Don't know if this link will help hope it does, there is a wiring diagram on page 25, http://www.sr125.atw.hu/service_manual1999.pdf
  6. Hi Mastiff I don't know the RD125 DX very well and I don’t know the age of your DX , I purchased a new rear brake arm for my 30 odd year old DT 175 Twin shock, I looked in my local Yamaha shop and realised that the rear brake arm from the 125 Chopper / cruiser bike looked the same, I asked at the parts counter they checked it out and it fitted, so I bet that you could do the same I should imagine that any Yamaha bike that shares the same drum brake shoes will also share the same brake arm, this would seem to be the case for my bike, Aj
  7. Hi Maybe no help at all but I would go to a local library and try to use theirs, hopfully they will also have the facility to make hard copies from it, Just a thought
  8. Hi Welcome, I think we all have that question ref ‘pay & display’& parking on the pavement, I don’t know how you get along with either, I assume you still could get a ticket, What I try to do is use a local supermarket even if they have their own pay and display, usually I look to see where the employees park their scoots and snuggle my bike in there, like wise if I see the parking Gestapo I would just ask, Aj
  9. Hello Rob As you can see by my avatar I too have a 1977 DT175

Having said all this Sacha, on your particular boke the forks were laft in a brushed bare aluminium finish from the factory...If it were me I'd do likewise and leave all this painting of the forks alone, you can make a real nice job of those lowers with some wet/dry and scotchbrite This is what I did, once I got them looking good I then used a clear lacquer on them,
  15. Hi Black is a cool colour I had a very shiny gloss black car and when it was clean it looked really smart, the only problem is the black paint work showed up every little fault, in the sun all the polish marks showed and when it rained all the water streaks showed up too also any stone chips had to be touched up to hide the little light marks, I now have a metallic silver car, the sun does not show up the hazy poilish marks although if you look close they can still be seen, the rain streaks don't show up as bad and the stone chips are easier to hide, for me although I think black is looks better silver is easier to keep smart,

Hi Sacha My DTs fuel tap is also like the second one, the lower opening is for the reserve so it is prudent to have a filter on it although if you don't run down to reserve you may never notice any debris that is there, until it comes to needing to use reserve, I cannot remember if there is a filter in the screw off outlet bowl, but if I was going to use the older tap I would just put an inline filter in the fuel line probably one where I could see how clean the fuel is. I do recall that my original DT that I had in 1978 also did not have a reserve tube filter either, Aj
  17. Hi Jim Yes the DT is my profile pic, It is nowhere near a restored show piece, I wish it was, and that I had the money to make it so, but it is used 2 or 3 times a week and it is so useful at nipping through the town, I have even took it down some local green lanes, got the foot pegs wedged in the sides of a 4x4 wheel track and did a superman over the bars, much to the delight of the orange brigade that I was with, I have brought one or two parts from TY trials, the last item was the TY175 gear selector plate. Aj
  18. hi Jim I know what you mean, I can get insurance for my FJR easy, but the 1976 DT twinshock that is different, I eventually got it covered via a classic policy £101, I have built up NCD on both bikes though. Aj

    FJR 1300 A

Hello SId I wouldn’t like to say the FJR is a better bike than the GTR, as I have never ridden a GTR, But I think the build quality will be similar, Honda might have a slightly better build quality than the Yam or Kwak, the only bikes I can compare to is my old Divi which I wish I still had, but this FJR is better than that, and a BMW 1100 Rt, the only reason I didn’t a BMW was the overall cost and the insultingly low Px that was offered on the Divi. But the BMW was so easy to handle and because of this was very tempting, Aj

    FJR 1300 A

Hello again My bike has never overheated but if you leave it ticking over as can happen when bimbling through a busy town or in traffic the temperature will rise but the cooling fans have always brought this under control quite quickly, the heat that is ducted to your legs can be controlled slightly by opening the LH/RH faring flaps, however I keep them open all the time to allow the heat to escape from the engine more readily. I also get less stressed when the engine runs on the cooler side of things. Your test ride hopfully will show this up, If you find a suitable U lock that fits the under seat storage slots post the make and model of it because the original Abus lock that was franchise sold with my old Divi don't fit so currently I am using a disc lock, for secondary security. Aj
  21. Hi Jim This place hard chromed my DT 175 twinshock legs, they also organised the courier to pick up and return the legs, I cannot remember how much it cost but the work looks first class, give them a call, Post a 'Hello' in the new members bit you might find somebody who has a better line on other chrome specialists Aj
  22. 'Took an afternoon and a few bears too get it down to the frame then we started on taking the gloss off.' Good luck with the restoration, you will discover spannering talents that will help with in all aspects of motorcycle ownership, You would have made millions though, if you film the bears helping to strip the bike down, LoL Aj

    FJR 1300 A

Hi I have a FJR also. Other than the service history and general condition I don’t really know and have not found any inherent faults with the machine, I have had mine from new, it is a bit clunky when selecting gear on first start up of the day, so much so that I put the bike in gear and rock it back and forth with the clutch in to free off the clutch plates before I start the bike, its not a pain just something I have gotten into the habit of doing, Along with the bike you should get the usual tool kit, but also there should be LH/RH side boxes and also 6 little colour coded blank caps for the holes that the boxes clip into when they are not being used. (I also got two black keys and a red master key with a spare side box lock for a top box optional extra one key fits all locks.) One of the few things that annoy me is that often I find that the sun reflects off the LCD screen and dazzles my view of the clocks, that coupled with the fact that it is deceptively fast can put you a few miles over the prescribed speed limit without realising, also I feel my bike could do with a Sixth gear not for extra speed just to make high speed riding a bit more relaxed. I have no problems with the linked brakes and I think the ABS has come to my rescue once or twice, I don’t think it was my riding skills that saved the situations that spring to mind, My wife finds the bike comfortable the heat ducting from the engine and the heated handle grips are great but in the summer the engine can warm your legs up somewhat. Oh and the bike is a bit heavy, But on the whole I like it and it suits me at least I think I don’t look like an elephant riding a warthog size wise Like I do when I am riding a 916 Ducati. Aj
  24. FJR 1300 too bloody fast for me. 1977 DT 175 faster than the FJR through the town.
