  1. 1000 miles over a weekend? my poor wickle 50 would be on its arse, lol. will certaintly see what i feel like later on in the year when it warms up a bit. at the moment its too cold going more than 10-15 miles
  2. Im 16, 50cc is all i can ride. i am running a 60cc big bore (still marked as 49cc on the barrel) and its mainly at full throttle the engine starts to slow down and can't produce the power that it normally does. and at lower RPMs' it just doesnt have the grunt, so once you change from 4th into 5th it will just die and drop back to 30-35mph tomorrow i'm off work and dont go in again until next saturday, so will pull the carb off tomorrow morning and see what size jet i am running, then go into probike in town and see if they have any jets available in the size i need. if not i will order them from motocarb.co.uk but how do i find the jets in the carb? - Steve
  3. hi everyone. i think i may need to up-jet my carb, how easy is it to change the jets and how can i do it? thanks, steve

    Miami 2009

put me in your suitcase PWEASE i only went to America once and that was florida, i want to go again now but can't afford it. hmm... perhaps if i go to Florida, buy a little motorbike, then tour across the states... hmm... me feels a road trip coming on
  5. Hi everyone. i used to go with my dad to the Red Lion pub in upper basildon on the back of his fireblade, i'd quite like to go there myself on my peashooter but does anybody else from this forum go there? and perhaps feel like meeting up there one wednesday night when all the bikers turn up on their weird and wonderful machines? - Steve
  6. well you can add a new air filter (K&N style), performance exhaust and change the jets to make it breathe better, add fibre reeds and adjust the reed stops, change the sprockets, add a big bore kit and thats pretty much all i can think of off the top of my head :S Exhaust and filter being the main and easiest thing to do
  7. well i put about 5 miles on it, down into town and back again and now its absolutely fine, plenty of smoke coming out of the exhaust and although it does seem a bit sluggish when the revs drop it seems to be alright, will take it easy for the first 500 miles or so and once it has been run in i will get to see the real effect of my £40 big bore will keep an eye on the plug though, it was jet black when i took it off to change the barrel and it was way over-jetted when i got it because it had the aftermarket air filter and exhaust on EDIT: will do OG
  8. I gave it one last try... gave both the head and the nut a blast with WD40, then a wipe with some cloth, then another blast and another wipe, and after a bit more fiddling and adjusting of the expansion pipe i got it to go on . you'd be amazed at how much shite there was in those little threads thanks for the help, all Did have to adjust the throttle stop screw on the carb to get it to idle nicely, and now that ive got the pipe on it seems very smokey and asthough its running rich, when i put the choke on it dies so i doubt it is running lean, if i hold the throttle open for a while it will clear its throat and rev up like normal. am i doing something wrong or is it just because the new piston/sleeve hasn't seated yet?
  9. i suppose they COULD just get it all form their computers and gadgets, but how do they know you are actually the owner and you havent nicked it? also, it is their job to make our country safer, that involves checking both vehicle and driver are fit to be on the road. usually they will only pull you over if you show probably cause (i.e. you give them a reason to pull you over) thankfully, in my 2 and half months on the road i have only been pulled over once, and that was because my L-plate had blown off the back whilst i was going down the link-road into town, they were very understanding and after retrieving the L-plate and tapeing it on, i was on my way again (no £30 fine thankfully, could have happened to anyone)
  10. white spark plugs may indicate lean running (too much air, not enough fuel) which may be the reason it is not firing. if the airbox has been removed then this may cause it to run lean as it can now take in more air and is less restricted, but the fuel intake has stayed the same i suggest you reset your carb and set it up to the correct mixtur before trying again
  11. No theres plenty of threads on the flange nut, its just i can't get it to screw onto the head because it either cross-threads, tightens up and then i have to undo it and try again, or it just wont screw on, it can't seem to "find" the thread and get started. surely theres an easier way? ive enlisted in a VERY temporary fix, Heat resistant tape to keep the manifold aligned with the head. hopefully this should last the 5 minute journey to work but after that im taking it off the road until i can get it sorted
  12. See the "International council of man law" thread, imparticular the quote about having "Balls"
  13. i loosened it off in my dads work shop and we wound it back on to the original bore to make sure i could get it off again when i got home to fit the big bore, took a while to get it right but it went on fine nonetheless. i have to go to work tomorrow morning so i will probably give it one last try before i head off, i work in the retail park about a mile to 2 miles away, will it damage the bike if i left it disconnected to the manifold? (obviously i would be taking it easy anyway because it is a new bore and i understand the mixture would be running a bit leaner than usual) and i hope i dont have to rpelace the nut, as that means replacing the whole expansion chamber... about £60-£70
  14. i know, i saw that this morning, apparently it only does 45mph but he didnt change the needles, air filter, sprockets or add a big bore kit so it doesnt really count as tuning it
  15. erm, i think you mis understand. this is the nut that holds the exhaust manifold onto the exhaust outlet on the cylinder block, with the crushable washer inbetween the one you normally undo with a C-spanner
  16. Hi everyone. have just fitted my big bore, was a P.I.T.A getting the exhaust nut off but i managed it in the end by heating it up and then undoing it. now, my main problem is getting the bloody thing back on!, every time i screw it on it just doesnt seem to find the threads, or it will screw on and tighten up, possibly because it is cross-threading, but no matter how much i jiggle it about and redo it i can never get the bastard thing on. i made sure its the right thread and im doing it the right way. but it just wont go! anyone got any suggestions? - Steve

  18. That bad huh? well... should be an experiance then EDIT: Its Norhern ireland im probably going to in February, had a bit of a blonde moment there
  19. Will be over there in May/June next year when i leave school, will be spending 2/3 weeks over there touring the southern republic . starting in dublin, traveling to rosslare harbour, along the coast to Cork, Kenmare and up along the west coast before cutting back along the shannon estury to Dublin, possibly taking a detour to Tipperary along the way. will be doing about 50 miles a day, giving us plenty of time to get lost/explore, wander around the towns and cities and generally get to know ireland Currently only me and a mate form school going, im on my DT50MX and he is on a Suzuki RMX50 I REALLY just want to go around Northern ireland on my own though, no distractions, no internet or TV, just me, my bike and ireland. Will probably start in belfast, work my way around the northern coast and then back inland and east to belfast again within the space of 9 days, probably with a small tent for that authentic touring feel
  20. he sent me this link with all the info on it. http://www.best-motorcycle-information.com...ed-licence.html
  21. Got my Wulfsport MX helmet from ghostbikes_uk, good seller, no problems what so ever pity my DT is only a 6v ... will most likely get a 12v Suzuki TS50X or something for when i go to ireland, there were some low drain grips on ebay not too long ago so that may be something worth considering if its to go on a small bike...
  22. hi everyone. just been chatting to a biker buddy of mine who will soon be taking his CBT, apparently he has been doing a bit of research and says you can get a full moped licence (no L-plates and can carry pillion) at 16 if you take a theory test and Moped part 2. anyone heard of this before?, its news to me :S - Steve
  23. Mobile phones are the No.1 driver distraction i find, at roundabouts it is worse because they have to "multitask", which is to Change gear, brake, steer and hold their phones at the same time. this often results in them holding the steering wheel with their kness whilst changing gear and then swerving to get around the centre of the roundabout. quite often if i pull up next to someone on the phone at a traffic light or roundabout i will gesture to them to put the phone down, half of them dont take a blind bit of notice of me but atleast i am trying to make our roads safer. we need more enforcement and more severe penalties for offenders, perhaps points or a fine for "driving without due care and attention" Rant over, ride safe
  24. i'll drink to that... ...-hic-
  25. makes me jealous to think that my generation has been completely restrained by health and safety and all that red tape bullshit... Although introducing the CBT was a good idea to keep us newbies safe on the roads, WHY such heavy power restrictions, i would rather have a larger machine that would keep up with traffic than one which will barely pull 40mph and makes me more likely to get overtaken/flattened by a truck on the dual carriageway. Hence why i chose my DT over a scooter, bigger wheels and faster. sucks big time, next year i will have myself a nice 600 though
