Basicly, my rings went on my Yamaha DTR 125 , took to my local Yamaha dealer and had new piston rings etc put in at a cost. I picked up my bike, noticing it has changed a lot in sound very quiet, and was riding a considerable amount worse, the bike seemed very powerless compared to before I could hear the power band roaring, and now it seems although there is no power, maybe because its quieter and I cannot hear it I don't know. But now I thought when replacing piston and rings, the bike would run and sound a hell of a lot better, and possibly faster. ( Bare in mind I do know I should be wearing it in but still, the bike shouldn't run and sound worse?) Should it, correct me if I'm wrong, all help appreciated thanks.

Not sure if anything is wrong maybe just different.

It is a cruel truth that 2 strokes normally run at there very best just before they blow.

How does the bike sound worse. Anything you can describe. Did he use gen parts. Or did it just get a quick hone and some rings.

Info needed.

The piston and rings overall coated 30pounds, so not a lot, and the bike sounds a lot quieter as if the exhaust has been tampered with. It use to sound very loud and tinny, very similar to a crosser, now it sounds very silent and just completely different overall.

It rides like a different bike performance wise, I know. Y old gear ratio and it would be, 25 in 2nd, 38 in 3rd and so on, now I struggle to get 20 out of 2nd, and it pulls away guttless feels as if there's no powerband. know I shouldn't be tearing it still anyway, but the work done shouldn't affect the performance, I thought it would improve it.. the only goodtthing I have gainened is a lot more compression, but other then that its messed up.

Mine got quiet before it died, :shakeno: check the compression.. if the piston and rings cost £30 I wouldn't be 100% on their quality tbh...

may not be a very good fit in the bore?

have you checked the pv is still working, do you hear it when you switch the key on?

Found out the problem guys, the ypvs wasn't opening properly. Wasn't turning on either with key, why they messed about with the ypvs for a piston job I don't know, but they re adjusted and cleaned it out, and is back to its tinny 2 stroke sound, swell as the full power the bike had before, that is for all the help everyone, much Appreciated.
