  1. I think its roughly 15L it may have been a bit down from the cap I only glanced before setting off, plus its midrange and top end fuel use is higher than stock due to being modded.
  2. With it being mostly dry today, and the sun out a bit, I went cross county on my XVS, she got 70mph! I'm still waiting for the bigger front sprocket to come so she should be able to cater a lovely cruising speed now! She's thirsty mind you, set off with more or less a full tank..... after 35 miles, shes below half..... I like a girl that swallows it anyhoo... Anyone else go out today (wed)? Yorkshire area?

  7. Thats got me giggling for the rest of the day, seriously that is the greatest thing Ive read in ages.
  8. bowl of thermite on top and jobs a gun 'un
  9. When changing my needle position I smeared my diaphragm in silicone grease to protect the rubber from the fuel and such. Carb cleaner is good stuff but if it finds its way up the slider which it will, the acetone/methanol part of it will attack the diaphragm, I use fuel cleaner, it does work, I use Redlines SI-1 Complete fuel system cleaner, its not just solvents, its packed with high temp detergents, I would silicone grease the diaphragm anyway, as the accelerator pump squirts fuel onto the slider.
  10. If the bike has an aftermarket exhaust, it may now be running lean (too little petrol), at low revs especially it can prevent it from accelerating smoothly.
  11. My nephew had a 50cc bike... It never ran properly to begin with, the chain and sprockets broke, the frame then snapped in two and the bike fell to bits. Its was chinese...
  12. Like rubber rings, shame that boat didn't have a few.
  13. Its horrific for those of us that are more well established on the hairy side... For me its like shitting through wire wool.... dangleberries are unavoidable. Klinkernuts....
  14. Hi all, I've just about finished rejetting my 125 Dragstar, just wondered what your thoughts are on it, as I think the bike is quite thirsty for what I've done. I know its winter, so the air is more dense which means more oxygen, so I am worried that for summer, it may start to foul. Although its running fine, I'll let you know everything I've done. 1. Rubber air restrictor removed, holes drilled on both plastic parts of the sheild shaped intake leading straight through to the new stock air filter. 2. About two 1cm holes poked in each back baffle. 3. .98 Main jet, and needle clip is in lowest position, (there are 3) meaning its one notch down from stock so its richer. The needle solved my acceleration problem, sometimes opening the throttle up to set off resulted in the odd stumble, so thats why I changed The bike when cold, will accelerate up through the needle, and then struggle slightly even with the main jet being a 98, when warm, this dissapears and becomes smooth, so I'll leave that as it is. I thought with the air filter still being the paper stock, these fuel demands were quite a step up, is this bike naturally thirsty, or am I going to suffer in summer? I check my plugs and they dont have deposits yet, but sometimes they look slightly wet.... I find that strange as any lower in jet sizes and my bike struggles, so why the hell do the plugs get damp? I havnt checked the plugs after a long run yet so maybe they need time to properly heat up. Its had long runs, and as of yet no deposits so it must be ok? Thanks.
  15. Had a look on ebays completed listings, and 2 went from 600 to 1,200 quid, might be worth a restore if the engine isnt slapping.
  16. My brother in law put that Slick 50, (which is nothing but moly) in his R1 lol Poor R1...
  17. I took my XVS out last few days, nearly got frost bite in my fingers and my face wouldn't move when I got off....
  18. I wouldnt take the clutch apart, unless you know its worn. Check that your clutch is engaging properly, when you let the clutch lever out, it should grab halfway to 3/4s out, if thats fine, then follow below: Just get some MOTORCYCLE oil, and a flushing addetive, and give it a fer revs/runs, then drain the oil, and replace with a good MOTORCYCLE oil, as car oil will make it slip. Once its done it may still slip a bit due to remaining friction addetives from whatever was in before, if so, just see if it improves over time, if not, then give it another flush, might be better to flush it twice first off.
  19. Hi all, Been reading up on clutches and oils, forum after forum people are cursing at doodz for using synthetic oil. I hear screams of slippage and ruined clutches. I have used synthetic/ester based oil now in all the bikes Ive had, all wet clutch and have no problem with synthetic based oil at all. Both road and dirt bikes are absoulutly fine with them. People are under the misconception that its the quality of the oil that creates slippage, they claim, that due to its greater protection qualities, synthetic is too slick for a firm clutch operation.. I do not believe they are right, anyone who has done an ounce of reading on this should have come accross the additive side of oils. Car oils and motorcycle oils ARE different, car oils contain friction modifiers, like molybdenum, while motorcycle oils are void of them, reason being they are the source of the slippage, motorcycles are boosted with more phosphourous and zinc, to prevent wear in order to make up for the lack of slippy additives. Some peoples conclusions is that its the quality of oil that makes it slip, and tend to choose shit oil in order to "save their clutch" I think this is counter productive, any ester/synthetic blend of oil, designed for motorcycles will not have a great dose of friction modifiers if any at all. All VOAs Ive seen of motorbike oils show no moly. So one would assume, that synthetic oils are fine, aslong as they are bike oils? I've seen old harley models reccomended ester based oils, which are supposed to be better than synthetic labeled oils, if it were anything to do with the quality of oil, then they wouldn't make synthetic or ester based motorbike oils surely?
  20. Ive no reason to believe the compression is a problem, I dont have a compression test kit, but Its nearly impossible to push when in 1st and engine is off, I can feel the compression when I give it a huge push and the piston moves. When running there is a large pulse coming from each exhausts... It probably does that anyway seeing as though its an explosion.. but its got 12,000 miles on it and seems fine. Anyhow, its running a 95 main now and I've yet to test it at WOT by plug colour. The midrange is definately lean, will this be ok in summer with less oxygen about? The full throttle part is fine, I'll have that sorted, I was just wondering weather it was worth changing the needle too, I dont wanna wreck my carb, once hot it does respond up to WOT, in summer that should be easier. I may just cover the restrictor hole back up a bit.
  21. Hi.. When people have been looking for more power on the XVS125, has anyone ever messed with the needle, or know how to get at it? I've removed the rubber air restrictor on my airbox, and made a couple of holes in the backplates, and now I'm running lean, until it gets very hot, (a result of the lean stoich) the bike has problems accelerating, and will fart out if not feathered on the throttle. I'm all sorted with getting at the main jet, but there may be instances where I will be running for some time at low throttle and I'd rather not overheat my machine. Can anyone advise me here as how to get to the needle? Thanks.
  22. Nah sorry, accelerator pump, when opening up the throttle it was drenching my sparkplugs, had it flood on me once already, that bad I had to change the oil..... So now it doesnt squirt as much in as before.
  23. My bad.... brother just told me its a 125... lol
  24. Arn't R6's and that these superbikes?? My brother in law had an R1 and their mental.... why the hell would anyone need a nitrous kit on such a deathly bike?
  25. Nah, I think the wet bit was the accelerator pump, after I turned it off to take a look I gave it a few revs, I've toned down the fuel pump a bit, as for the heat, not right sure, but just recently, it seems to have been fine, maybe it was just feeling groggy that day... I'll monitor it. Thanks anyway fellas.
