    dtr engine out

It's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question that one jony, depends on what bolts are seized, mainly, and what you have to do to get them off, mate, my main problem wasn't just a couple of the main engine mounting bolts being seized, luckily I have a cordless impact gun, impact driver to get them out, but the swingarm spindle that goes through the back of the engine also being absolutely seized up solid, to the point where I had to cut the swingarm off with an ultra thin cutting disc,on a 4" grinderette, either side of the engine at the back, . I reckon 'ball park',start to finish, would take a good afternoon, but on a bike thats been maintained and the bolts nicely greased up previously, poss 2 hours. One thing I do reccomend you do firstly though is document/take pics of which bolts came from where, label all wires somehow, I coded mine with small black or white cable ties(stay on better in parafin bath) Presumably you have a manual to help you too? for torque settings etc? Hope this helps somewhat, have a butchers on my project thread see if that's some use too.
  2. Nice one, it's not the end of the world if they don't match, mind, but if they do, at least you are in the knowledge that its the original engine.
  3. 3 characters/numbers a hyphon or a space then 6 numbers 9 characters in total Dean
  4. Give us 15 min, I'll go take a pic of where mine are on the frame for you
  5. Well yes and no, on my DT125 the engine number corresponds exactly with the frame, but on my XT600 the frame has 17 characters, and engine 9, but its the last 6 numbers on both, on the XT that match each other, so with your DT you'd have to be 100% certain that the engine you have is the original engine that went on that frame. The only thing you can use your engine number for deffo, is if it basically corresponds with your frame, and theres a couple of characters/numbers you can't quite make out, due to shotblasting and powdercoating.
  6. Must have been on the earlier stuff then, because my 93 xt600 vin and engine numbers are both the same too, can't remember if my xt125 numbers are also, off hand, I'll check tomorrow. Dean, I'll take a pic of mine for you tomorrow, all covered up at the min, but mine also has been shotblasted and powdercoated, and pretty faint, but readable just.
  7. Aye on the right hand side where the frame meets the headstock Also bear in mind that the original engine number, should be the same as the vin on the frame
  8. Sorry Pizzle, bad news mate, am going back with the standard headlight cowling, so I'll be needing the speedo drive. But I can help you with the fork gaitors, I bought them off ebay, they are/were advertised as neoprene, monster energy 'pit bike' fork protectors, forget who the sellers name was mind, but a search should come up with them, around about 14 quid if I remember rightly, although I must say that the monster energy insignia was a tad on the yellow side, so got the missus to go over it with my wacky daughters 'monster energy green' nail varnish and the decals again off ebay, from a bloke in Portugal, 'filed7071' £29.00 plus pnp, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-DTR-125-BLACK-STICKERS-/200623601607?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2eb61937c7 I think I had the last black ones, although he may have ordered more by now, but if you get in touch with him, he's a nice and very helpful chappy. Cheers for the thumbs up by the way, it's little gestures like that, that give me a kick up the backside when I feel like I cant be arsed to go outside and work on the bike, when it's 'looking a bit black ovver bill's mothers' weather, and you find that your having to cover over your bike, and get all your tools inside every 15 mins, whenever it looks like rain on it's way. Good luck with your fibre glassing too, maybe get some pics up of your bike project? may inspire somebody else in here to have a go, bit of a knock on effect. Oh aye just thought, AndyDtr08 on here is flogging some bits and bobs, maybe he has a speedo drive you're after. Cheers Nev
  9. Nooo nooo nooo nooo nooo!! Kawasaki green is a flat light green, I mean more monster energy green or rover 'tara' green, a more deeper green, a totally different shade
  10. Faster than this? Reckon it's yer flasher relay
  11. Took my seat into Newton Abbot today, to get a quote for shaping and putting on a new seat cover, to an uphholstry chap I'd been reccomended by a mate of mine, not only does he refurbish 3 piece suites, but actually builds, ( also makes his own fibre glass bases, ideal cafe racers, bobbers, harleys etc)his own seats, and saw on his unit walls there was about 20 different types of seats he'd done himself, was very impressed, he's a biker himself with 30 years of building seats. He quoted me £15 for shaping and replacing a seat cover I supplied myself, and ready next day, a bargain I reckon. So I thought I'd share this with any members doing up their bike, or just having a tired old seat, and have been thinking of getting it sorted. He will do mail order, for custom made seat covers, but would prefer to have the seat there at his unit to re-upholster. He doesn't have a website, but you can e-mail him or phone him, with your own design, or he can design for you. His hand cut, cut-outs are brilliant, btw. Ask for Geoff 01626 361173, or e-mail [email protected]
  12. Now if that were mine, I 'd borrow some T-bars, see what they'd look like on it More substantial for mounting the '50 cal' on
  13. Hi and welcome to the forum, mate, you've definately gone about it the right way by getting the Clymers manual, it's an unwritten rule, that when you buy the bike you should always get a workshop manual for it, or at least the owners manual, you'll be surprised just how helpful they can be, and how much they can save you in the long run, you may even find out your problem with the lights within the manual, but failing that, I'm sure there's some chaps in here, either had, or own the same bike, that will be most helpful, and try and put you on the right way with your problem. Infact if you go to the workshop section, and put your predicament in there, I doubt it will be too long before somebody comes along, with any pointers for you.
  14. Hi sfyamr1, and welcome to the forum mate
  15. Hi and welcome to the forum Weimieman, good luck with the restoration, maybe some pics as you go along, in the projects section
  16. Hi and welcome to the forum Tonto, there's another lad from Newcastle Oz, recently joined the forum, might be along to say hi, his name escapes me at the min, but I'll let you know, when I remember, maybe you pair can hook up together for rides out.
  17. And on that bombshell.........
  18. The 'woolly' bit at low revs, probably means your manual powervalve is pinned on 'open' not much poke until you reach around 7k revs, then whoosh, big kick up the backside jobby, but your mate will probably explain it better.
  19. Hi Dean, tidy bike you have there mate, it's the DT125R btw, I have a 92' model I'm doing up at the minute, it's in the project section, incase you need any pointers? Plus theres plenty of other lads in here with DT's that will be more than helpful to answer any questions you might have. ride safe
