Petrol is ok to use as long as you let it dry properly. Yes soak in oil afterward, squeeze out surplus and any dust will stick to it. Similar filter for my petrol mower - now that does catch a lot of dust. cheers

Chances are it could be from the oil drain plug if they didn't replace the alloy gasket. It compresses flat to take up any variation in the mating surfaces and if it has been reused it may not be doing its job.

Think about it. The fuel going into the cylinder has to be a fuel/air mix for combustion. If you have neat fuel going into the cylinder it just won't work. Or am I not understanding your question?

Do you think your oil gets hot enough to need cooling in UK? Just 'fancy one' doesn't always make it a good option for engine longevity Just my twopennerth
