  1. the tx engine had a few teething problems which was "mainly" addressed when they renamed it the xs, so the engine mounts should be the same. motorcycle mechanics has a feature in this months edition which would be worth you buying.(either electronically or mail order)
  2. check pilot screw is 1.5 turns from bottom on each carb. its located on the manifold side in front of the diaphrams on the top (brass screw)
  3. I think you can but it's better to get new, as coils break down over time. Mine were starting to heat up and drip wax out of them. there are some here : http://www.motorcycle-ignition.com/motorcycle_coils.htm but are out of stock at the mo'. just need to make sure that the are for conact assisted ignition as opposed to electronic ignition types which are very different.
  4. A trick i was told, was to pull back the brake lever and tie it up and leave a few days. Any air bubbles trapped, will work their way to the reservoir. This worked on my friends cbx550F when he could not get pressure.
  5. need to check your ignition coils next: off the top of my head: 4ohms and 9k ohms (+/-20% @ 20'C) for secondary and primary, these should be the readings you are looking for. The coils could also break down with running, Mine did that. Also check your battery is charged and charging at 14.5 volts. did you check that the tips of the pilot needles hav'nt broken off in the carb body? If you take one out, they should have a really sharp needle. Both mine had broken off in the carb body and the spare set were the same.
  6. Just had some kids over from Tanzania to our scout night. The local school raised money to bring them over, as the teachers who went over on hols last year were so moved. These kids have nothing, I was so moved by their selflessness and eagerness to please. They came over in a T-shirt and a pair of trousers as that's all they owned. people donated shoes and socks for them and we all moan about not having this and that. It certainly makes you think. even the poorest people here have a lot more than these kids do. we are on this world to make things better for everyone, the selffish can go to Hell!!
  7. no idea mate, need to contact megacams and then let us all know. I didn't get one as its a bit far to send and havn't got the dosh yet
  8. Hi Peeps, been sorting through my CD's and I've come across parts lists from the SOHC '77 to the DOHC '83 models. I've found an upload site and don't know how long it keeps the file for so, get downloading http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1143...0-1977-pdf.html http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1144...0-1978-pdf.html http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1144...0-1979-pdf.html http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1144...0-1981-pdf.html http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1145...0-1982-pdf.html http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/1145...0-1983-pdf.html

  11. no problem, do a forum search for online manuals as I must have listed them a few times Drewpy
  12. should just fire right up on first kick! mine does (on half choke in UK summer) why don't you get a manual and have a go tuning it yourself as its pretty easy and you'll get a lot more enjoyment from your bike! If any timing etc is wrong It'll be a bugger to start, whats the power like and how smooth is the engine? get a compression check .
  13. the VJMC helps with that sort of thing. Its best to conact them!
  14. have you tried sirrius online NRP carbs motoward Jim Patch 01935 881817
  15. try here: http://www.repairmanualclub.com/
  16. 1) If you have screw caps or a circlips for the top of the stantions to hold in the springs, take these off first as its easier to do when on the bike. take off front wheel, loosen the pinch bolts and the stantions should just twist down. I would suggest raising the bike further off the ground to prevent them bottoming out on the ground. 2) to take off the stantions from the sliders, there usually is a capscrew socket underneatth. If you don't "snap" it on first attempt, the insides just start turning and you need to make up a lonnnnggg tool out of tubing. I also put the spring back in and with my back to the wall, pushed the spring in via slider, and turned the capscrew off that way. clean everything out and heat up the old seal and prise out with a tyre lever (taking off clip first). to knock back in, use a plastic water pipe of the right diameter for the seal (ie outer, not soft inner) 3) No idea!!! 17. there's not a lot really, Motad exhausts, and the cams mentioned previously. you can go twin disk up front using SR 500 left fork and caliper with an xs1100 master cylinder. the yam xs's were pretty much perfect as they came. there was even a Yamaha sponsered race in Germany called the Yamaha Cup and these used XS400's for a time. These came with full fairing and plastic combined tank/seat unit. everthing else was standard.
  18. Durex, machine= mens toilets in red lion
  19. pilot system too lean. do a search on forum, talked about plenty of times
  20. not really, the wire from the switch was already there, being part of the left switch loom. I just had to buy some japanese type bullets and solder tup o the ignition switch by copying the old one I had.
  21. I'm using 10w 40. I did use 20w50 and if you have really hot weather then i would go for that. I use semi-synthetic as full synth with make your clutch slip!! the best tyres i have in use are Bridgestone BT45, the RD boys recommend these as well As far as tuning goes Megacycle cams do a reprofiled cam for the xs click here for specs etc try bike bandit as they will list your bike and also publish data.
