I dropped my ybr the other day when I released the clutch too quickly with the throttle up too high at a gravel parking lot. The starter switch fell out and the pin disappeared. I'm therefore jumping it with the spring at the moment. PITA Not being content with the fact it doesnt have a kill switch, which is slightly annoying when stopping at long lights as the ignition is a bit janky and the key doesnt turn beautifully, I am hoping to install one tomorrow. I have bought one which has five wires which have no indication of what they do. I could really use some help! Thanks in advance. Bit out of focus but it displays the wiring colou…

hi everyone this is my first post on the forum as i've looked through many relevant posts but none seem to have my exact problem and was hoping if the much smarter people of this forum could help me. the bike was running fine when i first bought it 2 weeks ago but it has since stopped starting or if it does the front cylinder wont fire and only will start to if i rev the bike, the bike also displays a 3 second engine light which i've seen is related to the voltage regulator, but after replacing it the bike didn't start any better (although the lights on the bike looked much brighter). the battery also gets very hot even after i cleaned the contacts up and has sp…

Hello, does anyone know if the ignition module on the SZR660 is used on any other bikes, or alternatively, if a module from another bike can be used on an SZR660. My head tells me the MZ range of 660s would suit, but how about other 660s (or 600 singles) from the Yammie range, including those on Quads et al. Here's hoping for some good news on cross compatibility!

Hello, I am currently having an issue with my Yamha MT-125 2017 speedo not showing. I am wondering if anyone has encountered this problem and knows what could be causing it. The bike is currently stored outdoors due to recently moving but has a cover over it. Indicators, ABS, fuel warning, neutral light all still work but the speedo itself doesn't. I have taken the speedo apart and noticed some condensation inside but not sure if thats fully damaged it. Day 1: Video Day 2: Video Day 3: (Took speedo apart and let it dry out) Video Day 4: Video It's now just showing a white display (same as day 2) with Indic…

Hi, Up until now, when I turned on the ignition switch of my FZS1000, before starting the engine, both the dipped main beams came on. But now both the side lights come on and the dipped or main beams can not be turned on via the head light switch. However the main beam comes on using the head light flasher switch. The lighting fuse is good. Have I inadvertently somehow changed the option for side lights on power-up instead of dipped main, if there is such an option, but I see no reference to this in the manuals? But the main beam should come on via the head light switch. Or perhaps a problem with the head light switch? Cheers

Hello, I have a 2007 Yamaha YBR125 that is not starting for some reason that is more likely to be electrical. It was starting fine but when I removed headlight front to check some wiring, it stopped starting. Headlight main bulb also stopped working. I can see that the power to headlight switch was not coming from headlight relay (which apparently stopped working for no obvious reason) but when I bypass the relay, headlight starts working. Now, the bike tries to start and there is spark in the plug but it does not start. I can hear fuel pump priming and there is sufficient petrol in the bike. Side stand switch is apparently working as the bike does not a…

hi guys, please excuse the wall of text for my first post, i have done some searching on the forum, but this forum is massive! I'm posting on behalf of someone else, i've no idea about bikes i'm a techy guy... so if anything sounds stupid ya know why..lol The lad always had a thing for bikes, sadly he was so excited someone on facebook ripped him off. he got sold what looked like a very nice ttr 125. sadly though the pandemic hit, he already paid the guy but was stuck at his grandparents house and he wasn't allowed to leave the bubble so the guy dropped it off at mine. the bike ended up just being sat in the garage until he could come 6 months later. anyw…

Hi all. My 2005 Thundercat has developed this annoying intermittent issue. When you turn the ignition on, all the usual lights come on (headlights, neutral) but when you press the starter button it will either fire up as normal or nothing happens at all. You can be stood there for a fair while pressing the starter until eventually it will fire up. Any ideas?

Hello, I am very new to biking and have have just bought my first bike a 2008 Yamaha YBR125. Twice now it has let me down with a flat battery giving code 43 and refusing to start via electronic start. Changing the battery over night fixes the issue. So far I have replaced the battery with a new one but the following symptoms still occur and I am hoping someone might be able to help so I don't just keep buying new parts. With the ignition off there is 12.3v across the battery terminals. Running the bike on idle and the voltage starts to drop down to 12.2v then 12.1v and after about 10 mins it's down to 11.8v. revving the bike makes no difference to the …

Hi, I've had an issue develop on my XT660X while riding home tonight. I warmed the bike up as normal, started to ride and at the first junction (about 30 seconds of riding) I could hear my starter motor turning. My engine light was flickering and nothing seemed to stop it. If I turned the bike off, as soon as I turned the ignition back on the bike started itself. It stopped after about 30 seconds but then started again at the next set of traffic lights. No matter what I did nothing affected it, although when I was moving I couldn't hear it. It didn't sound like the motor was engaged as the engine kept running and there were no grinding noises, it just sounded like it…

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1998 SR400, Japanese model. I have several diagrams from different manuals but none matches my bike. I am particularly interested in how the CDI is wired. The model number on the frame is 3HT8 meaning that the ignition system is from the period 1994 ~ 2000. It is totally different to the other years' systems and, as far as I can find out, only fitted to Japanese models. My frame is a 1JR which also indicates a Japanese market bike. The engine is strange as it is a 2H6, which should be from 1978 but they weren't 3HT8 models. The models that have the same ignition system are SR400 3HT6 ~ 3HTB, 1994 ~ 2000 and also SR500…

New user... old bike, maybe known problems... My son has a 2012 WR125X. We were supposed to go for a weekend trip. After about 100km (60miles) it started to misfire... and around 200km (125miles) engine just stopped. It gives a spark, with a new plug and gasoline is smelling while starting. Battery is ”new”. It has 183cc Malossi cylinder, Malossi Force Master2, Gianelli’s exhaust. If I understand correctly, fault code is for Ignition coil. Local Yamaha service is saying it is not that, but can’t figure out, what it can be? Any ideas? Thanks for your thoughts in advance!

Hi all, New to Yamahas and the site! I've bought a 1997 North American Virago (I'm in the UK). The bike was advertised as needing a new CDI (by the dealer). I asked if the original unit was on the bike and was told it was. Bike turns up and it's not the original. I've sourced what I believe is the correct unit (J4T033). The original white connector block is on the 6 spade connection but on the four spade side the block is missing and there are three terminals/wires connected directly to the spades. The three wires are blue/red, black and grey. Question is do the wires connect to the corresponding terminals on the J4T033 unit (cost a small fortune so don't want to fry…

I have a yamaha aerox 50cc 2t liquid cooled and all the lights except brake and indicators keep blowing. They've been fine but started playing up yesterday. I was about to leave work and it was starting to get dark and no lights were working, checked my indicators, brakes and full beams and the brakes and indicators worked but the full beams didnt. As I was riding along the speedo bulbs went out slowly 1 by 1. They arnt just popped or anything theyre completely melted of and no filament left. I held the brake lever a tiny bit so the brake light would turn on but the brake wouldnt apply and it worked and I got home. Went to work today and put new bulbs in (work…

Hi, Can anyone help? I am rebuilding a 1982 xj750 seca and I'm trying to source a diode that fits in the headlight shell. It terminates to a six way connector but only has 4 wires. They are coloured:- Light blue on pin 1, nothing on pin 2, nothing on pin 3, white/blue wire to pin 4, white wire to pin 5 and black yellow wire to pin 6. Looking at the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual the wires are different colours. (White/blue, Blue/yellow, Light Blue and White) Can anyone explain what the diode actually does and where can I obtain one from? Cheers and STAY SAFE

So, bit of a backstory first... I work in the steel industry which shuts down each year for two weeks over Christmas. I've commuted for two years on my Thunderace. It's never missed a beat and starts every time (except once when some joker flicked my kill-switch and I never noticed!). It lives outside (poor bike) cos I don't have a garage. This year I've obviously not done much long distance riding, so it's mostly been just the commuting. All has been well, but since we've been off for two weeks over Christmas and then after having been back for only a week, I did my back in and spent another week off work. So that's 3 weeks of pretty much zero…
