Hi. This is my first post on here. I just bought a 1980 XS 1100 Special full dress that has been sitting the last 2 years. It was running when he parked it. The reason he parked it was because the exhaust has broken in 2 a little in front of the muffler. One side is completely seperated and the other is almost in two. I am wondering if someone out there has an exhaust they want to sell. Or if anybody has any ideas, they would be GREATly appreciated.

I have a 1981 xs 400 special 2 and I need to replace the tach cable. The cable to the tach is not the problem, it's how to hook it up the the engine block the baffles me. Any help would appreciated.

  7. We recently acquired a 1978 dt 400. It apparently hasn't ran in a while (due to the mouse nest in the air box). We cleaned the whole bike up: carb, air filter, fuel, etc and got it to run. The only problem is it will sometimes begin to rev at extremely high RPM and not stop. Someone looked at it and told us it could be the float arm lever or the float needle. It was running -somewhat- properly before the float arm tab was adjusted and now it revs almost as soon as we start it. What to we do :S??? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I gave a friend an '82 XS400 that has developed an ignition problem. It started one day last summer while we were riding, it ran fine all day then backfired to a stop and wouldn't restart. Once we got a truck to get it home, it started up fine. The problem has gotten worse now to the point that we can start it, listen to it idle and rev nice and smooth then quit all in about 5min. It just cuts out like you hit the kill switch and no restart for hours. We found that the spark for both cylinders disappears and we're not sure why. We got a new ignition module from ebay to try it, same problem. We checked the coils and the resistance seems a but high on the se…

One of my float bowl drain screws has rounded edges on it. I should be able to get it off but I can't tighten it anymore and a bit of gas leaks out over time (very very slow). Anyways, I need to replace the screws. I looked on mikexs, and while these say fits stock 38mm (stock xs400 is 34, right?), they look like the right drain plugs. It is Part #48-0779 on this page: http://www.mikesxs.net/mikesxs-fuel_system...category_id=4.2 They have screws for stock 34mm carbs but they do not look like the plugs on my carbs. Thanks.

Newbie here. Still riding my 76' XS360 street bike. Can't get it faster than 55mph but i still love it. Can you tell me what is the proper way of checking the oil? Should the bike be on the center-stand? You have to unscrew the oil stick. Should I unscrew, wipe the stick clean, rescrew back in, unscrew again to check the oil ??... I just need to be sure I'm doing this right. I'm afraid I'm a little low on oil. Oh and should I call a local shop for what type oil to use or can any of you here tell me? Thanks. Sophic

Hello me again, well after a engine rebuild over the winter due to a stretched timing chain and a broken piston ring, I am back at playing with the bike. Well the thing runs pretty good but still has a little bit of an issue with the fuel I believe. I took the carbs apart before installing them back on the bike and found that one of the pilot jets was kind a plugged so I cleaned it out good. After riding the bike around I noticed that it likes to stumble a little bit off of a stop. It idles great, it pulls hard at WOT, but it just has a stumble between the two. So when the bike was idling I played with the L carb pilot screw and it changed how the bike was idling, but whe…

hey there. im attempting to find an original tool kit for my 75 xs500b, but am not having much luck at all... ive tried all of the usual suspects (mikesxs, bikebandit, oldbikebarn, sleazebay, etc) and have come up with nothing. does anyone know what came in the original tool kit? i couldnt find that information on the yamaha main site. i figure that i can just fit together a pouch that will slide into and out of the stock compartment so that i can finally do away with the ugly (and way too easily accessable) rear pouch that holds my tool kit over the rear fender.
