I have a XS750 that makes a horrible noise when operating the starter motor like it is slipping. I have put a kit in the starter clutch which comprises of rollers and springs. I have also replaced the gear that attaches to the clutch that the rollers make contact with because the old one had some grooving. I don't know what to do next. It turns over a few times and then slips while making this horrible noise. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here and really writing on behalf of my Dad. My Dad has a pretty mint 1980 250 XT. It runs like a dream and I have ridden it for years myself and my Dad has had it from new apart from when his mate had it for a few years and it came back to him. The only non-original part is the Micron Exhaust he has on it......original gold rims... The works.... It has lived its whole life being kept in the garage so never stored outside. Now my question is to what we do with it. I think my dad has had enough of it and it's time to move on but what is the best place for it to go? What's it worth and is it worth of some showroom or collectors place? …

Hi All Apologies for the following strange request: I have just recovered a 1980 DT from a barn - I bought it off a mate who was emigrating more than 30 years ago and it has sat there since. Remarkably, I think it could be resurrected. My 17 yo lad is keen to do this. Problem 1 (there will be more, I'm sure), I can't remember if it is a 125 or a 175 (The V5 disappeared years ago and there are no capacity decals on it). Is there anyway I can tell from the frame number or do I need the engine number? I assume it is the frame number on the headstock - it's a bit ropey but I think it is 02168?X?. I believe that 125 and 175 parts are pretty interchangeable, but …

I have two different carberators. The one that came with the bike initially had the bike running a bit gunky and it flooded the carb and was always leaking. I purchased a overhaul kit but all the pieces I received were incorrectly sized. They were all to big. I called a small owner repair-man and asked him to look at my machine and he couldn't get it work. I ended up buying a drop-in, new carb to put in. Now no matter what i do with this new larger carb (the pieces from the overhaul kit fit this carb) it always runs wide open. I am not sure if the bike is just a differnt year, or if it is a failed project. The serial number is 3J0-002414 I haven't been able …

Hows it going guys? Im new to yamaha club and i would appreciate any help i can get from you guys. I have a 1980 yamaha sr250 and the bike is driving me insane. The bike originaly belonged to my grandfather and he abandoned it. Once he abandoned it, my father took the bike off his hands. This was probably in the early 90's. I was just born haha. My father rode the bike here and there untill he ran into a problem with it. He would start the bike, and the bike would idle perfectly. But as soon as he touched the throttle, the bike would die. No biggie. My father told me he spent a year on an off trying to fix the bike until he finally gave up on it. Here i am now, 23 years o…

I have a sr250 custom bobber, I've cleaned the carb multiple times, still doesn't help much. It will crank and idle, was only running only on half choke, it will idle and ride now with choke off but still wants to spit back through the carb and backfire, also wants to shut off sometimes at stops. How can I fix this?

hey guys, i'm new to your little community you have here, and though i know its annoying for new guys to immediatly ask question about fixing their bikes you should know i'm from saskatchewan canada and we can only ride our bikes for a few months a year, so time is a factor. i have an old 1980ish 175 enduro, the oil light comes on in neautral (i'm told this is a test), but once i get it into gear it will sometimes flicker on and off. the oil reserve is full. sometimes as soon as i let off the throttle it will go off... its weird because it doesn't stay on while im in gear, but rather turns off and on sometimes... i love the old girl and use it for my daily rider so i'd h…

Most pertinently - is there one? I can find Haynes manuals for all other years and capacities of DT but not the 1981 250MX. There are Clymer manuals from America. Any one had any experience with these? Would they differ that much from a Haynes manual apart from maybe using different measurements? Cheers.

ok, threw a drive chain and i think i killed third gear and maybe second. sounds like clacking when i put it into third. but was able to ride home fifty miles just by passing 2 and 3 gear. ok my question for you all is: can you split the cases without having to take apart the cylinders and head? yank the motor flip it and split cases apart just to get at the trans gears... Anyone who actually has a XJ550 1981 know if this is possible.

Hi All,I just bought my first Yamaha, a 1981 XV750 off Ebay. It wouldn't start when I arrived on the train from Leeds to Peterborough and I was becoming a little disallusioned after two and a half hours of fiddling with a slow starter, flat battery and stripping the carbs. Eventually though I went out on the pillion and it was pulling like a train until we wobbled round a bend due to low rear tyre pressure!! Once I had changed my underwear and taken a couple of Vallium tabs I was feeling OK about everything and I handed over the dosh and set off up the Great North Road with an imbecile grin cramping up my facial muscles!! The euphoria lasted for 30 miles until the old gir…
