ha ha ha i thought that would've brought a deluge of comments but so far as i can tell everyone agrees with me. most of that was tongue in cheek goff but it was ridiculous, im all for anything that stops us getting killed or seriously maimed, hell, i dont want my boy growing up missing his dad but you have to admit some of the stuff 'they' come out with is far from sensible. in all fairness i saw the test of these jackets before on mcn and the bloke that ditched the bike to test it walked away, unharmed and still in one piece. not so much can be said about the nice bike he threw up the road though.
  3. shiny stuff, and more shiny stuff

personally i say to hell wi the lot of these so called statistics, i wanna ride my bike in a t shirt and trainers and nothing else so i can get loads of women ogling my botty as i go by. if i want to ride without a helmet i should be able to then it would be up to me, im absolutely sick to the back teeth of so called do gooders telling me what i can and cant do just because 'they' think its right. i'm an adult and as an adult i should be allowed to decide for myself. i choose to wear a helmet and all the rest but if i had the choice i'd feel a whole lot better. i pay tax on everything i earn and everything i purchase, i pay nat. insurance and i pay council tax so the nhs as far as i'm concerned should stop whining about having to do their job. so it costs money to treat me if i fall off but it costs a damn sight less than the amount of smoking related illnesses that clog up the hospitals and the gov are the ones who allow smoking in fact the reason they dont ban it is because of the revenue it provides them so they can pay themselves extortionate and obscene amounts of wages. when does it stop? when they ban bikes? f**ck*ng w*nk*rs can all go f*c* themselves as far as im concerned and theres no way i'm wearing an air bag government provided jacket if it comes to the point that its compulsary im going to give up biking, something i've been doing since i was 14. grrr

jesus man ive been round fife on a bike and i cant see what the hell good a nitrous kits gonna do up there, ok if its for dragging and quarter mile stuff ok but why? is it not fast enough? i'm all for cosmetic enhancements i mean look at Jordan but isnt this just a little o.t.t ? if yer really set on it yeah but it seems an awfull lot of shit to be bolting on to yer bike and nitrous costs an effing fortune. if you do put it on giz a shout and i'll take a blast up to see it in action, i reckon it'll be a sight to behold, if you can hold on to it that is. i had a pal (big stevie from kilmacolm R>I>P) a while ago did it to a gsx thou and he reckoned it was a blast but pointless, but each to their own big chap. ian.

if the pistons dry its probably ok but its worth doing anyway and you have piece of mind, if the brakes are spongy that'll sort it ,might be worthwile too to get new brake pipes if you have the rubber type replace them with braided pipe, i know it can be quite expensive but theres no point in skimping on brakes. if that doesnt sort the oil leak then i would be looking at the forks and perhaps giving them a rebuild, replacing seals and what have you, there only is two sources of oil around your brake disc, the caliper and the forks. either way its going to cost you but thats the joy of biking i'm afraid. im surprised the mechanic looking at it originally couldnt suss it out, might be worthwhile finding a new mechanic, no disrespect to the guy, but, what the hell.

my eight year old goes with me on my gsxr and because the footrests are quite high he can get both feet on them no problem, you can buy bolt on footrests anyway, just get love handles there the best thing and drive safe taking off gently etc, no probs.i got pulled and informed that although its not illegal i was erring on being a bad dad, 'just think of the injuries etc.' this from a bike cop too, i told him to fuck off and mind his own business, they dont really like that though.

buy a new seal kit, undo the caliper from the fork leg, dont remove the brake pipe, take out the brake pads and bin them, hold the caliper so you can see inside it theres a big round bit in the centre, thats the piston. now, gently, and i mean gently pull the brake lever in and the piston should start to move out of the caliper. its not very deep probably only about an inch or so. at some point when its coming out of the caliper it'll start to go loose , thats when its about ready to pop out. ease it out ever so gently now cos theres brake fluid under pressure forcing it out. when it finally is ready to come out lift it out of the way. empty the caliper of all the brake fluid, use a container of some sort, give it all a good clean with a rag, dont get it on you or any parts of the bike, its the best paint stripper going. take the brake pipe off and wrap a rag round the end of it. keep the top on the master cylinder ( where the lever is) and it shoudnt leak too much fluid from the brake pipe. the caliper is now detached and empty so put it on a bench and look inside it where the piston came out. theres a round black rubber seal in there which prevents the oil leaking from around the piston. thats the seal. its probably held in with a circlip of some sort so remove this and gently pry the seal out taking care not to scratch any of the metal surfaces. lay the new seal kit out and see what you've got. remove any bits from the caliper that look the same as the bits in the new kit, and replace them with the new bits, go easy and replace everything exactly as it was. give the piston a clean and gently push it back into the caliper. put the brake pipe back on, a new set of brake pads, and bolt it back on the fork leg and bleed it to get any air out of the pipe and caliper.. remember when your bleeding it to top up the master cylinder resovoir, once its bled and youve got good pressure on the brake lever bobs yer uncle. if any of that is wrong then someone speak up and correct me. i hope it goes ok cos you cant run about with dodgy brakes my friend. they're the most important part of the bike. if your not sure then buy the kit and give the whole lot to a mechanic and get him to do it. ian.

you go for it matey, theres nothing wrong with a jawa. the toolbox required consists of a hammer and a spark plug key, these things were made to go on forever, give it a good strip down and clean, glue it back together with blu tack and yer sorted. if nothing else it'll give you valuable experience for the future.... dont sell your other bike, stick it in the back garden and throw a hap over it, nothing worse than selling your first bike and ten years down the line wishing you still had it.
