Hi!

I am thinking of buying an XJ900F and while searching for info I found this forum. I'm not an expert in mechanics nor in the XJ900 itself so, forgive me.

While examining an XJ900 for sale in Portugal some doubts arised. (images attached) The bike is supposed to have been imported to Portugal from italy in 2011. I don't know if that is relevant for the spec.

In my small research I noticed that all the engines from XJ900F's usually have an engraving on a black background saying "DOHC".  In this bike the engraving is red, although I can't read it. The thing is, all XJ900 with the red engraving (supposedly) are earlier models that have a different fairing and paint scheme than this one that is supposed to be a XJ900F, therefore should have the "DOHC" engraving.

I'm obviously making some kind of confusion with the bike versions but I can't find that info anywhere and I thought this would be the ideal place to ask.

Sorry for the ignorance and thank you in advance.

Bom Dia,

They can have both I think.

DOHC simply refers to Double OverHead Camshaft.

YICS refers to Yamaha's (for the time) revolutionary Yamaha Induction Control System that most if not all XJ's came with.

I can't comment if one came before the other but I'm certain the anoraks will chime in soon

Pretty bike btw.

Just post the first half of the engine number, simple.

Plenty of folk on here will be able to translate that into the information your after, and don't use the log book, get the number from the actual engine.

Thanks for both you answers!

 It was obviously simple...! haha

I still didn't went to see the bike so I can't post the number of the engine. that would be too easy! hahaha Nothing ever is.

My main concern is to make sure that everything checks out. To make sure that this models with the "YICS" engraving has this style of fairing or if it was exclusive of earlier models. (just to make sure someone didn't replaced it after an accident, for example.)
