Hello all, i have not long had rebuild on my DT125RE and i have been taking it easy and i'm just wondering if it is supposed to have a really slight hollow rattle?

you cant really hear it over the noise of the engine and is easier to hear when decreasing revs, does anyone have an idea as to what this maybe?

thanks for reading :)

its process of elimination i'm afraid fella. get a long screw driver, hold the handle against your ear and touch t'other end against the engine to find out where the noise is coming from (head, clutch area, water pump, crank etc) was it a full rebuild or just the head,if it was did it have a rebore? if its had a rebore, did it have the power valve ground to match? all a ballache, but most rattles aren't good :shakeno:

Keiran, check the obvious things first, just cos the noise is on deceleration don't mean it's the actual engine that is rattling, what else did you take off and did you retighten everytihng when you put it back, check your tank mounting rubbers and anything that might be metal to metal before you start thinking about restripping the engine. And ask a mate to listen to it for you as well WITHOUT telling them where you think the noise is coming from they might just spot something you missed. :jossun:

weather not good...thats something of an understatement, It's VILE !!!

yeah see if the noise comes and goes with pulling the clutch...might be best checked with a warm engine

:( i just went out on it on the way to the GYM and it just stopped as if it had run out of petrol so i tried to start it again, wouldnt start.. but before this the rattling got really bad and was louder than the engine! sounded like a tin of nails!!! i think it is the top end bearing as im not sure this got changed in the rebuild due to it not being in the piston kit.. SO SO pissed off.. wish i had of just took it to a specialist

Thanks for reading, all help is appriciated

If you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck at all Kieran, sorry to hear your bike is in the shitter, hope it is something small and inexpensive.

My luck is never good, i left it with the person that rebuilt it for me and his wife said she would get him to look at it for me when he gets back from his meeting, i will go round after college tomorrow and see what he has found, i really hope its not ANOTHER piston kit :( these oversized piston kits aint cheap

With a bit of luck it MIGHT just be the old pin you put back in that caused the problem if so you should still be able to reuse your piston even if you have to replace the rings, always try to be positive mate there's enough shit in the world without making more of your own. Good luck. :jossun:

Hello again lads! sosososososososososososososoososoSO happy as my bike didnt need anything other than a new spark plug & the fuel pipe feeded to it correct route from wherever into the tap on the fuel on of switch!

apparentently it was starving itself from fuel due to a kink in fuel pipe somewhere, he said when he changed the plug and re routed the fuel pipe it smoked like crazy then eventually cleared, the old plug had carbon stuck on the actuall need so he said this new plug will stop that due somthing!

All in all i am just so happy to have my bike back without having to spend majoy money like i was expecting to have to do so i wasnt really listening i just wanted to get out on it!

Hope everyone is great and just want to thank you all for helping me :)
