Hi guys hope some of you can help.

We've had this Scooter in the garage for about a year now since it stopped going a year ago. drained tank, new fuel, new starter motor, new iridium plug, totally cleaned carb and checked reed valves, fully charged battery but doesn't last a crack so used car battery. Bad idea it burned new starter out!

Got it going and it sounded great, nice tickover, revving ok and left it running for about 5 mins then switched off. The shite has not went since! At this stage I'm about to kill it......

Checked the primary resistance on the coil and it is in spec. When u kick it the spark is very weak and sometimes non existent. You could kick it 5 or 6 times and it won't spark. This bike was always a pain to start so I don't know if it's an aerox thing or not?

Can anyone let me know what other checks I need to do and even though it looks obvious I'm not sure the coil is faulty? Another thing is can the bushes be bought for the starter motor for these.

Is the spark normally weak from the kickstart. The kickstart was obvisually designed for the feet of a 6 year old girl!

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Going by what you've written Joe, it can be a multitude of things that could be the fault, and some times it's not just one thing but two, or even three things all being faulty at once.

The fact you've had it started, and it wasn't coughing or spluttering isn't that bad, it soungs like the 5 mins you got out of it, could be the float chamber emptying of petrol as normal, but possibly the actual float sticking, therefore not allowing anymore petrol into the chamber. The weak spark could be anything from cap being nfg, HTlead breaking up, graphite inner core HT leads do have a habit of this, the 2 terminals on the coil may be corroded and not making a proper connection,(you say its been stood for over a year)also check the terminal blocks and clean the terminals that go into the CDI thats caught me out a few times myself, can't say I'm familiar with the Aerox engines, although the early Aprilia SR 50's as the one I have does have the same early Aerox engines, it's just that I havent had the no start symptems as you have, hope this helps, let us know how things develop, as it may also help the next chap that comes along with similar problems. ;)

Hi Nev

Thanks for the reply mate. Reading back on the thread i didnt make myself clear, sorry, I switched it off it was running fine.......

Just back in from working at it and the starter started to turn again ,lol, hope I've got away with it. As the batteries flat it turned slowly but turned. I'm starting to really suspect the battery at this point. It reads fine on the mm but you get about 10x 2 sec turns of the starter and the batteries dead again. I use the optimser all the time to re charge it. I am reluctant to put the car battery back on...think ill get a battery tomorrow.

I took the coils off and cleaned the terminals along with the cdi. Im also starting to wonder does the bike need a good battery to work on the kick? The carbs are defo ok except the float level is at 14mm instead of the 15 to 18 mm spec but i cant see that being a problem. You cant adjust the floats like a proper bike u need to buy new ones so this will have to wait till i get near the menders.

Might as well check the engine 'earth' to the battery neg and the coil grounding (mounting bolt) should be a dead short

Aye I'll go with that ;)
