Right okay, assuming you've already done CBT, you are allowed to do your "restricted licence" on a 125cc bike.

This allows you to ride ANY cc bike, as long as it is restricted to 33bhp. This means you can jump on the triumph rocket, 4500cc, but as long as its restricted to 33bhp then you're fine.

Saying that, a lot of people get it restricted and then take the restricter out.

After 2 years on a "restricted", you can move up to any size bike.

Just read in the MCN that certain Chinese 125cc bikes are not certified to do your test on. So because of this the DVLA are refusing to give people their license until they redo their test on a different bike. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2010/September/sep1610-learners-pass-test-still-only-ride-125s/ . So basically, avoid anywhere that uses Chinese 125cc bikes for  the test.
