    MOT time

the aussies have it even better,so long as they keep their vehicles in good condition they dont have to have it tested at all,but if they do get stopped they may have to have it tested
  4. unless you have a late model dt you should have a steering lock built into the ignition switch, try turning the bars either way, with the ignition off push the key in and try to turn anti clockwise, dont force the key if it wont turn then you have the later model,i have a 1989 dt and that has 2 steering locks and i dont have the key for the steering head lock and the key never matches the ignition key
  5. if yours was an exup there are 2 sets of carbs for sale on ebay
  6. that happened to me on a 1977 rd250,after trying to do a u turn on a main doad and hitting the kerb, the bike leant to the right but i couldnt put my leg out cos my trousers were over the kick start "what's yours then? mine is as follows.........petrol station on the rd400, jump on bike, ready to start it..... and what's happened? kickstart up me trouser leg(bootcut jeans)! an i topple over felt like a right tit i did still dont know how the hell it happened. one of those stupid off days i guess"
  7. so long as you dont give a bad reply or give a police man a bad attitude most police men can be very resnable,i got pulled doing 37 in a 30 and all i got was advice about late night drinkers were about,no ticket or producer, mind you i did also go through a radar trap with the van i was driving off hte clock and never got pulled over, mind you the motorcycle cop did wave his radar at me! the speedo only read to 85mph
  8. on ebay there is some gold star calipers for sale,item7963533977,at the they are going for £71 and he has the matching master cylinder,item7963534402.both have 2days11hours to go
  9. i believe the 2003 models had the gold star calipers,if you notice new models with radial calipers have smaller discs to save on unsprung weight, which is what yamaha probably did on 2003 on models,i dont know what the disc sizes are for each year but if you bought the matching calipers for your forks you shouldnt have any problem selling your blue star calipers
  10. [if it is a flimsy metal one buy another the ends of the tang sticking out have either broke or wore away, the part is not expensive
  11. all 4 cylinder bikes will vibrate at a certain revs,if the carbs are balanced it is better to adjust your speed to suit or alter the gearing
  12. why not just go and buy the correct calipers for the forks? it would save a lot of hassle and losing 10mm on the disc size wont make a lot of difference if any, with the correct calipers you may get better brakes
  13. what a lot of people dont check when they think of cam chain noise is their carb balance,if there is an awfu racket out of balance carbs can do it or even dirty carbs if the bike has been stood over winter, especially if the bike was ok before the winter ignore the above if you have a single cylinder or a 2 stroke
  14. as regards the fairing the tzr as standard never had a fairing,it was an optional extra, the bike you are looking at looks quite clean but if you do decide to unrestrict it you do lose some reliability, all those saying peg the power valve open that is all right untill you have to run it in,then you will wish you had a working powervalve!
  15. your running problem in that it would not run below 3000rpm,i had the same problem with my dt125r,and that has had a rebore and has only done 10 miles on it,the bike seems to run better since i adjusted the pilot screw but it is not perfect but then it did idle for the first time since i got it.the carb is clean so it isnt that and the fuel pipe is brand new genuine yamaha,my bike is standard except for a dep exhaust ,working power valve and performance reads (1989 model)
  16. a c&d cat write off can be put back on the road but must be inspected by your local dvla inspector,it is a strict mot! unless the bike has had a lot of mods you will either keep the original reg or get issued a age related plate, you will only get a q reg ig you cannot confirm the identity, age of bike or the bike has had so many mods that most of the original has gone
  17. when was the front brake last bled?if it hasnt or it has been a long time it is possible the water that forms in brake fluid over a period of time could have froze so when you applied the front brake it wouldnt release due to a blockage, lust because it was above freezing it doesnt mean there will be no frost or freezing, windchill can lower the temp by several degrees

    88 FZ600

the fz600 was a japan only fzr400 with a fj600 engine in it,but had slightly smaller carbs on it due to space limitations.
  19. you could take thr restrictor out of the front pipe, that will only cost you a gasket, further tuning will cost and it is best to get it done properly and you risk making the engine more unreliable
  20. fitted new pipe over a week ago with a genuine yamaha part, bike had originaly aclear plastic pipe which i chucked away,i made a piece of pipe up to get it going but no change, the last owner had the same problem
  21. the front pipe has an extra pipe in it,you can see it if you take off the exhaust, and the powervalve is pegged shut if you go to http://geocities.com/yamaha_dtr125/menu.htm this site will explain everything
  22. the powervalve is not the problem, the bike is a right bitch to start, even when it has been started it will only start on choke unless warmed up fully. if the revs drop below 2500 rpm it will die, seems to be running weak at low revs, today the bike wouldnt start even by bump starting, screwed out the idle mixture screw and it started on the kick start! rode it around the garage a couple of times and it died again, got it started by bump starting and it ran for a minuite then died. below 2500 it will not respond to the throttle and will not tickover
  23. i had another look and pics on the net,the hole which is threaded i have found out is for a tickover screw if the carb was a right hand carb on a twin, saves costs on making handed carbs
  24. look on ebay ,there is someone who is selling the info for £10,but it will involve changing the exhaust and releasing the reed switch from the speedo, your bike has a catalitic converter
  25. i have a dep and find they dont fit that good, and ive read that is the case on some forums ,it bolts up to the port no problems but the top bracket is useless and the front bracket needs forcing the rubber mount to get the bolts in
