  1. If you were to lose a stone, that would give you better acceleration
  2. that is with the 0% thats yamha not the dealer. it isnt 2007 COLOURS, its a 2007 bike on 08 plates.the colour scheme changed with the new bike, as i said, it look similar, but 07-08 are different bikes, and if you want the 07 colours which was the black i had with the matt side panel, and the tribal tatoo things, with red painted rings on the wheels. the 08 bike is the shitty graphite one, but it does have black forks the same as the old one, the only 'new' r6 with gold forks is the blue, even the white and red dont have em this year. the bikes at 6000 tend to be last years models on new plates, which is ok when its just a colour change, but this is a model change last time, i have seen bikes as old as FZR Exups On new plates. the imports tend to have different colour schemes, silver, met red a diff white and red to ours, and the stupid flame, that no one over 4, or not american would want! plus the reflectors, engine ect same, not sure if they have dunlop quals on. me personaly, i would only ever bike my bike off yamaha. not someone who sells any franchise they can get hold off, but im very picky, i go all the way to fleetwood Raceways for my Yams, just go to the dealer, look at the bikes, take one out, if they wont let you take one out, you dont buy a bike off em, there is visible differences between the two bikes your on about thought, 07 to 08.
  3. 2009 r6 is exactly the same as the 08, with slight colour changes. 06/07 is different bike to 08/09 it might not look it but its improved all round, if you check this weeks mcn i think its DK have an offer on the r6 you get the 0% finance, but you get akrapovic, tail tidy, seat cowl, shoei raid helmet, sabre leathers, loads of freebies, they wont off that on the 09. if you dont hit the tracks, then the 07 bike is just as good for you, if youv seen a big saving on them or something. as regards to ironing out the faults?? i dont think there were faults, they improved the midrange by putting the variable inlet tracts, new chassis which i think is magnesium alloy.it still has the same brakes and suspension, but the engine has been changed loads to maybe suit the road a little more. underneath is a brand new bike for 08/09 the next change will be 2010
  4. i dont check on this site anywhere nr enough, and it seems most others are the same as me. so just thought id give it a nudge, im on the lookout for rideout buddys at the minute, without sounding desperate lol, as im using my bike way more than my mates at the min lets get a ride out!!!
  5. First of all, yamaha obviously recomend yamalube, so id go with that, regardless of what people think about the quality compared to others, load of companys make top quality oils, i get them analysed at work, but its not a question of quality, its what oils are engineered to your bike, i guarantee yamalube is designed and tested on your bike! im not sure which one its the r6 needs, it does say in the book though On another note why are you servicing an 08 bike?
  6. I had a 56 reg R6 before this one and i never got a letter for recall... bummer about the engine mate. hope you get it sorted,
  7. yeah.... the r6 shouldnt be sold without one, my k4 gsxr has one from standard under any hard accel youll feel the front twitch in first 4 gears, if you dont your not accel hard enough lol. iv had an 07 and an 08 r6, it needs a steering damper badly
  8. there seems to be a few knocking about now, mostly spread out like but its getting better...think we need an official ride out now i sold my 56 r6.... and bought an 08, miles better, i dont regret not buying a cbr this time round!!
  9. yup your in brunstrom country there, best bet from east lancs, if you dont wanna go east, is head to southport, ormskirk way. north to preston plenty of roads round there, but cuntstrom will have police hanging out of bushes and all sorts at the minute!!
  10. they update everytwo years, sometimes a colour swap after 1, the new r6 looks the same as my last, but if you ride pretty hard u notice a lot more power more of the time, they say the supension is better but im not good enough to notice that, al though when my last one had the suspension set up for me i did notice it was better

    Which R6?

a couple of things mate... i know u have ur heart probably set on the r6, and it is a great bike but restructed to 33bhp, means you would find an aprilia rs125 full poer faster, and defo better handling unless your 18 stone or 6'4 other than that ring premium choice, they stuck me with equity red star, i get my r6 insurance though them, im 24 2 years ncb, two 12 month bans 3 points, own a 56 r6, 04 april rs, and a k4 gsxr 600, all insured for 900, my policy basically goes off which would be the dearest which is the r6, so effectively 900 for that. i dont live in london which i imagine is expensive, but i do live in st helens, about 5 minute drive from liverpool, and we all know what thieving bastards they are in that kneck of the woods. ps, only joking scousers, calm down calm down!
  12. i have a 56 R6r with 3000 miles on it, at steady 5500 revs mine used to make a sort of tickin/ vibey noise anything above it went, anything below it went, it must have just been the perfect resonance, anyways long story short i found the brake pads rocking in the caliper, not worn or anything, but rocking in the same direction as the wheel spin, freaky, braking was fine ect, and no warping on the discs, had it replace by yam under warranty, but 200 miles later same again so now had the retaining pins, spring everything in the caliper thats not the caliper, replaced, seems okay this week, although i cracked and ordered an 08 while i was there so wont be doing anymore testing on this, worth a quick feel anyways, if it is this mine was very obvious once u touched the pads
  13. im always up for that, im a follower, so if someone organises a few of us, then awesome
  14. hi all thought id nudge this thread a bit, see if we can get some rideouts sorted, while were coming up to summer, im in wigan by the way, ride all over the place

    how do you feel?

[it would drive me insane knowing, but its down to you, if you say you cant notice em, just leave it, youll find out if there noticable when selling, get rid of the 90s wheel tape, and u got a nice bike

    08 R6 Questions

dont worry about it, its better to use the revs now and then, and work through the gears, just dont be trying to open it up from like 4thou in higher gears, just let it warm up nice, then keep it revving freely, take it through now and then its better if you do, the engine needs to rev now and then so that it beds in properly they say 8 just so your not riding round at 16thou on the back wheel, but any decent yam mech will tell you to use the engine

    08 R6

just use unleaded, the higher octane ones wont make any difference, any one who says they do is talkin crap, unless your engine is specifically designed to run on it, which not many are, then it wont run any quicker, or last longer, never heard of the scorpio alarm so cant comment, but yam reccomend meta, if thats a n option for you, dont be scared of breaking it in either, dont be sitting at low revs, let the bike rev freely, and take it straight through to like 12-13 sometimes, its better to rev high than bog the engine down, keep the loading on the engine light, and use all the gears, enjoy the bikes, fantastic machine, if your prepared to work with it
  18. congrats on getting into biking, you will never look back now, except maybe to check on the porsche you just flew past id check ebay for a fly screen, puig also make them for your bike, and there decent quality, and usually pretty cheap, there raptor or windstream ones would probably be best, as for being unstable, i wouldnt think a fly screen will help that, check your tyre pressures else just slow down a bit hope this helps ps busters or the like will stock puig

    new bike

you buy exactly what you want mate, and buy it for the right reasons not because someone says u should.... u got a mean old bike there, that will spit u off experienced or not, have plenty of respect for your bike, and ull be ok, like girlierider says, just dont end up a statistic..... you ride whatever bike feels right to you wether it be an r1 a harley, or one of these little chinese replicas were being bombarded with over here, biking is all about the freedom to me, and that bike only goes as fast u tell it, get plenty of traiing under your belt, your never to good to learn, and concentrate more on good riding than how far you can twist the throttle and what speeds you can hit ect all bikes are fun mate big or small, as long as you get off them at then end of the ride

    R6 < FZ6 Fazer ?

whos slating the latest one? everyone i know thiks its the dogs..... all the mags had it as the number one bike....bike of the year 2006 - bike magazine, mcn ride, superbike, all rated it as the top 600 ever....until the 2007 cbr, and even then its only because of flexibility, iv owende plenty bikes, and currently own a k4 gsxr, and a 56 plate r6, they dont compare, not even close

    R6 < FZ6 Fazer ?

yeah they love those daft air cooled things in the us dont they, iv got and sv650s which is a vtwin, and its awesome for everyday riding, for that very reason, with my r6 u have to be tuned in on all the time really working it, the sv is so lazy its unreal, and backing it in on corners downshifting raises a few eyebrows on the way to work haha ........bring on the duc hypermotard for march when i raplace it

    new rider

yeah obviously you have dif laws to us ect, 2 strokes are eventually gonna be fazed out over here too, as is happening in gps at the min with the 250 class weighing up a 600 4 stroke to replace it, strokers arnt harder to handle at all no mate, ull prob find your self being alot slower on one until u improve your ability, which is why there good for learners, its hard work to make them go fast, so u get faster as your ability improves, at which rate you will be ready for riding fast, if you get me?? but this is by the by if you cant have them in the us lol, best bet is to look at a sporty small capacity bike, rather than a supersports like r6 cbr600rr ect, i dont know how it works over there, i know u have the r6s and r6r, and things like that, but our r6 is a pure track bike basically, and not only is it hard work on the road, its defo not for novices, who prefer the old r6's because they have power low down, but essentially less power and a more forgiving chassis all i can say is take as many bikes as u can for good test rides, see how u feel, its ultimately your decision

    new rider

to be honest mate it just depends on your self, i have friends who started on ninjas, cbrs, ect, even on r1's, also have friends who started on aprilia rs125's and rgv250's obviously there are exceptions to the rule but the ones who start on the smaller bikes especially the 2 strokes with narrow screaming powerbands, turn out to be the better riders, they learn so much more about limits and using the bike to its potential, any idiot can make an r1 do 160 down the straight but its the guy keeping on him round the twisties on his rs125 that shows has all the control and techniques
